Multiclass system is what made FFXI the best game out there,problem is FFXIV does it worse than FFXI.Combat is strategic yes,but again it takes a backseat to FFXI.Crafting is again good ,but done badly in that you cannot be self sufficient,you need to rely on others because to make it realistic ,they figure nobody in the game could possibly have the skills to be self sufficient /sarcasm,again takes a backseat to FFXI.
...stuff
self-sufficient? in an MMO? wanna play alone, play single-player offline games then. Not defending FF14 but that's just ridiculous for any MMO, even WoW crafting depends on other crafting/gathering classes (albiet it's easier). Problem here is the amount of inter-dependencies is just....well, too much.
there already people out there trying to master everything and be self independent so yeah you can be independent just takes time i already seeing people do it so its not inpossible :P

I was doing it til I stop playing... All my professions were between 14-18. One 14 a few 15-16 & three 18.
Now, simply hearring the sounds of crafting is enough to make me log off. ><;
My plan was to get them all to 20-25 & then focus on 2-3 that work well together & then switch to another 2-3 when finished, but the mind numming steps involve in crafting got the better of me rather quickly.
I'm sticking it out. There are a lot of little improvements that could be made to the game, but overall the good outweighs the bad. I love the multiclass system, combat is fun and strategic, best crafting I have seen in any game. I'm on Figaro, doesnt seem to be too many english speaking players there, but I've put in enough time that it would be rough changing servers.

Moral of the story,the whole game takes a backseat to FFXI ,so they wasted all that time and money to deliver a lesser version of FFXI with better graphics.What really baffles my mind is that they create this new game engine at a huge expense and it really offers nothing to modern tech ,it is like a 15 year old game engine that is capable of higher res textures and that is it.
The biggest thing about FFFXIV and it is a BAD thing ,is that this is not Tanaka's game,he is sitting back allowing others to do all the thinking,this is why this game turned out badly with many bad decisions,i am not so sure Tanaka will ever take charge of a game again,i think he is sitting high on the throne now ,taking it easy collecting the big salary.IMO Tanaka has been sitting out since those cheap lazy xpacs that FFXI has been offering,those kupo de'tat or whatever they are,and the newer ones like Abyssea,again cheap lazy efforts,Square has done nothing to gain my confidence since TOAU xpac and even that one ruined the game for all the old zones.
I could never stick this game out ,just because of better graphics,i could never see myself playing a lesser version of FFXI,when i could just play FFXI .Worst of all,unless i see positive influence from Tanaka on any Sqaure game,i have little confidence that they will rebound,Square is in serious trouble.
I prefer interdependency between crafting classes. It's logical that to make a spear, you are going to need a carpenter for the handle etc. One thing that they could have done better is the recipe design and how you might need a level 20 handle on a level 5 spear. That design decision makes no sense to me.
As for some of the other stuff, I havent played any other FF games, so I cant really compare.

I see what you mean by this but after a while I realize you don't need to be a carpenter because you just need the mats to create the item. The benefits of having multiple craft is just to be able to have perfect independence. But you can still make a killing profit off 1 craft, especially if your in a LS where everyone has 1 thing high you guys can work together as a team. but yea from 11 it was like that also in some crafts. this one is more extended economy complex. This game is its own game with it. the design of this gets to be actually fun. I think this way does add more social "mmo" aspect to crafting more than any game I've played. ff14 is def its own game now lol.
