No the grind is much less then ever before and with the offline skilling it will be even less and then when darkfall 2010 expansion comes out even less !! so Resub like i did
There is a grind, but your playstyle will dictate how it impacts you.
It is VERY possible to live out of NPC cities, do quests, trade/craft/harvest etc. and not experience any grind.
It is 100% CERTAIN that you will experience grind if you want to become competitive in PvP right away.
To be effective in group PvP you need:
Moderate Melee mastery
Maxed archery
To get these two, it will take around 20-40 hours without outside assistance. This is really not too bad considering 1-4 hours a day would still allow for you to be effective in group PvP
To be effective in solo PvP you need:
Max Melee Mastery
Maxed Archery
Maxed conversion spells
Maxed in most schools of magic
Maxed buffs and a few maxed nukes
Moderate utility spells (WoF, come hither etc.)
Good gear
To get this will take around 200-400 without outside assistance. I leave the wide gap to account for differences in playstyle. It is very possible to play ~4-6 hours a day and have a maxed character in 1.5 months or less. You would need to be extremely focused though.
While I AM a strong critic of the grind, I think that you can enjoy the game without really grinding.

First Archery can be replaced by magic in nearly all cases 9exepct water fighitng).
You do not need ALL magic schools, ever. You do want at elast 2 magic lines at 100 so that r50s can be cycled. More schools of magic open more possibilities but most players do not use more than 1-2 schools of (elemental/arcane/necro) magic. There are a number of excellenet solo pvP'ers who play destroyer mage killer, so don't delude yourself that everyone that kills you has every spell. they simply don't.

First and for all you need a good aim. I mean if you're a bow god with kill mage (20% more damage vs staves holders) you don't need most magic. Or sooner can compete vs most mages (sure some control spells like confusion or eye rot give a lot of advantages, but if you're good you can live w/o them)

Sorry Uzik but I call it bullshit.
The gathering and crafting an escape from the grind ? They are ALL about grind. They are done in the most boring and tedious EVER. Aren't you bored of watching your character gathering ore in neverending loop for hours to get enough for a rank 40 2h weapon or a set of bottom range armour ? You probably aren't as most of the people DON'T play the game while AFK gathering ( often by using alts ).
20-40 hours to get 50 in melee mastery and max out archery ? Maybe if you have never-ending supply of food, gear, arrows and you are CONSTANTLY hitting a not moving, not attacking monster with infinite health so you will save on respawn time, regeneration of health, stamina, mana, traveling time etc.
Lmao you can't be serious, you people really live in a world of fable or I played a completely different game. Go one, call me a liar, what a joke.
Stop feeding people with lies, those who hate boring repetitive actions won't stay in the game anyway.

at 9:46 minute you can see what a VETRAN ( with wast knowledge abou the game ) player, one of the best playing DF achieved with a new character AFTER 36 hours. Sure he leveled some magic in the same as well, but those were most essential skills anyway, if you can live without some lesser magic and greater magic, you are more then mistaken.
BTW the guide ends at this point from one obvious reason, BECAUSE the real grind start to kick in. Those 36 hours are nothing to compare to the steepness of grind later on.

I am thinking it but does it still have ridiculous amount of skill grind?
Lots of opinions here, the "grind" is what you make it.
Over a year on Darkfall now and I've never felt like I was "grinding"
The Darkfall devs have just stated though they are about to add an offline progression system so they are actively working on the "grind".
