They are so different it seems pointless comparing them tbh, like chalk and cheese.

WAR = faster to get into, more like your typical mmo. Themepark.

DF = can be a pain in the ass to get into, fps aiming and full loot ffa pvp. Sandbox.

Having played the two, for me Darkfall is a million miles ahead of WAR.

I like both games, but yes they are very different.

    My highlights:

    WAR

-large group PvP all the time

-class based, but quite a few to choose from.

    -PvE is meh

-not much exploring, you could but not much incentive

-crafting is meh but a good money maker.

-not real death penalty, just if your group dies leveling slower

    DF

-smaller (usually) group or solo PvP. It could be larger, but its kinda rare since not enough people play.

-full loot! which is not for everyone. personally, it makes it more exciting. And if you are smart you don't loose much anyway.

-crafting is a little better than WAR, but more important to the game. Unfortunately, no real economy.

-skill based, though no skill cap, so eventually 90% of people have the same hybrid class

-PvE is pretty fun, but very unstructured. Though people think this is a hard core PvP game, most honestly PvE more than PvP.

    -boats!!

-flagging system does not effectively curb asshattery, though I never experienced it as much as some people seem to.

I left Warhammer for Darkfall and have had a hell of a lot more fun since. Warhammer had much better first impressions but it is not the type of MMORPG that I can find myself playing long-term when it comes down to it because it is too easy and safe. Unlike Darkfall, I can play Warhammer while eating, listening to music, and it is easier to get up and go to the bathroom but it never stirs any emotions because there is no risk vs reward with instances. Darkfall can make me really angry at times or have some huge adrenaline rush . .. or experience an epic battle that only comes once in a lifetime and keeps me at the edge of my seat at unexpected times. Darkfall requires a lot more patience and does not have the instant gratification that Warhammer does but it is easier to play for a lot longer and does not get easy no matter how long that you play it for.

If you enjoy both than I suggest that you play both. You can subscribe to Darkfall while doing WARs never-ending free trial. Sometimes my hands are too shaky to play Darkfall (its twitch-based and dying matters so I need to feel on-the-ball) or I just need to get a break from it and play something safe at times so I could see myself playing WAR on the side again occasionally.

Darkfall stirs up many emotions that other games can't but it is hard. I doubt that anyone plays nothing but Darkfall all of the time . .. every player needs breaks from it sometimes. Warhammer will not make you mad like Darkfall will and it is very chill and relaxing in comparison.

I've never liked games like war or wow where you have auto targeting.

However, if you don't mind that you have to grind for 12-18 montht to have an end game toon, then darkfall can be a lot of fun.

I've been playing ~4-6 hours a day since aug 09 and my toon is only about 50% - a mid level toon.

exactly what sid said. ive never had a video game make my heart almost explode out of my chest from an drenaline rush. ive never been more angry at a game and ive never experienced as many amazing fights. Ill probably be with darkfall for the long run hoping they keep making it better and better.

WAR failed to deliver on a lot of its promises. I really loved playing a chosen, it suited me perfectly. probably the best thing about WAR was its unique classes. i also enjoyed paladin and fire mage. In the end though the pve let me down, the exploration that was promised wasnt there and was very linear. It did open the door for my love of large pvp battles though.

Personally I gotta go with Darkfall.  There's nothing else like it.

I never saw much point in doing anything in Warhammer.  Nothing had meaning.  I feel that the opposite is true in Darkfall.  When you take over a city, it is yours/your clan.  Not to mention someone actually built the city.  The relationships you make or break are meaningful or could haunt you.  The name you build for yourself with the one character per account is very important.  Also when you just join the game there is nothing restricting you from playing with your guildies right away and participating in every facet of the game.

Darkfall: spend weeks/months grinding to become PVP-viable.  Join a zerg guild and zerg the other guilds to win.  Enjoy paying monthly to AFK in front of trees and other exciting stationary objects in order to gather resources from them, so you can excitingly AFK in front of Anvils and other exciting stationary buildings in order to craft things (because you'll lose them all when you die.)

WAR: Immediately jump into balanced-team PVP, but be disappointed by weak class/combat design.  Dabble in awesome castle-capturing, before realizing it's predominantly about zerging to win.  Still, despite a weak rendering system your character will look cool and have awesome lore behind it.  But at least (unlike DF) you'll be PVPing full-time if that's the gameplay you want.
