Introducing Anthony Morales!

"Hello community, I'm the "new" Lead Animator/Techincal Artist. I say new in quotation marks because I've been here since August =)

I'm half Belgian and half Spanish so English is being practiced at work frequently since I don't understand a word of Swedish

I have animated professionally for over 6 years for commercials, movies and games at various companies. Amongst those are IO Interactive, Ghost VFX and Zeitguyz. I focus on realistic animation, so look forward to creatures with dynamic realistic looking hair, fat and muscle jiggle amongst other things.

My impression on Mortal Online so far has been that it is a game with a lot of potential with unfortunately limited resources to complete it's long journey. Having said that, with these talented easy to work with colleagues and a strong community I believe that we will succeed in bringing MO to the level it deserves to be.

I believe in quality over quantity so I will be continuously re-doing all animations in passes until they reach what I call film quality. As I am currently alone, this is gonna take some time so please be patient I am working as hard as I can

Anyways, I'm very happy to be here and looking forward to see MO and it's community flourish.

Peace,

Anthony."

Exciting to see new blood joining the team, clearly an expert in his field. 6 years experience in large companies is no laughing matter. Bring on the new animations.

That's because the cost of an animator is far less than an experienced developer.

For a good, experienced game developer, I would imagine somewhere in the neighborhood of about $140-170k/year in US dollars, obviously. For reference, we pay .NET developers about $140k here, and all they do is financial apps.

    Oh you! ;)

Every game needs an animator, an experienced one like this will take the game a long way.

    Agreeing with yourself doesn't count.

NONE! of the problems MO has have anything to do with the animations.  Jeeesus.

Freom the title of this thread "Out with the old Devs, In with the NEW! Experienced Developers" I thought this was related to a widespread turnover of Devs or even a sale of the game.   I was a bit disapointed to see it was related to the hiring of a single Artist... but still.. adding ANY experience is probably a good thing!

What MO needs is a re-animator quite frankly.

There was no link in the OP... I assumed that August meant August 2010 which is a few months ago.

Interesting... his join date is July 2009.  Wonder if he was working as a contractor for SV.

Band-aid solution to the bad press they received by losing/sacking the 2 guys a few days ago:

Get a Dev you got a while back who never posted on the Forum to make an "introductory" post.

    Voila, bad press "fixed".

  • thorppesthorppes Member Posts: 452

Amazing, SV get a new developer join the team and the haters instantly swarm around trying to turn it into a negative aspect? Serious guys. Lets get serious.

New, very experienced animations / technical artist is an amazing asset to the SV team.

Exactly, being a "hidden" dev from 2009 and then saying "HEY EVERYONE! :D" when SV releases a very bad financial statement....

Big woop - A single guy to work on the art. So in a few years we can have a re-lauch, right? Will it still cost me $70 in the U.S.?

Now take off your pink glasses and notice that Dev been registered on the board for a year and a half. So much for 'new', eh?

most companies dont pay well at all.  that's the name of the game.

to be honest, most dev team members at LARGE mmo companies only pay about as well or slightly above what a manager at best buy would normally make.  dont go by what itt, the design institute, or full sail will tell you how much game devs "can" make.  its rediculously inflated.

the reality is its a low pay, terrible hours, super high stress work environment.  an oddly, once it gets in your blood, you dont care about any of the bs because youre having a lot of fun doing incredibly challenging work.  make no mistake, ive seen quite a few people break under the pressure.

yeah sure, the people financing and publishing make money.  but the way they do that at EVERY company is hold over everyones head "now remember, you get to make games for a living.  theres a million people that want your job".  its as old as the indstry itself.

oh and yeah, .net devs make a ton more than game developers.  i know quite a few people that left places ive worked just to soak up the cash and ease of work that environment provides.

dont be so quick to jump to conclusions.

    Games i'm playing right now...

Hmm, he have following the game for more than a year, but SV employed him recently. So yes, he is a new developer, just started working for SV. I hope you understand that better. He have not been on the list of employees before until a few days ago. Check here when he introduce himself ...

I'm sure they're all glad SV get got a new developer.  But, honestly his position isn't the area people are having issues with.  The game has looked amazing for a long time now.  In less he's going to design a bunch mobs to populate the world and do their AI I doubt he's going to play a huge role where the game is lacking(and what I mentioned would be a very tiny portion of it).
