but i have my doubts for EA, in the past do a lot of damage in gaming industry
Just about every major publisher has now at this point. EA is not as bad as other publishers now. ZenMax, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks is now shaping up to be the next "evil" thing, and most likely will hurt the industry quite a bit in coming years. Like EA, they keep acquiring IPs and development studios (through any means necessary).
As for the OP's post...the CEO is wrong. I think SWTOR will not do as well as EA hopes, in fact, it will probably flop to the level of WAR, but his views on billing and design for online games is simply wrong. Business men who buy their way to (even low level) CEO positions are often wrong and have no idea what they are talking about when it comes to the industry they are trying to manipulate.
Lets EA charges 60 bucks for it. They make half of that(I'm not sure there actual profits per box, but I'd give no more than 50%, I've heard its actually more like 25% before or even less before on certain products)
So we are looking at 5million @30 or 10million @15 box sales to break even at the estimated cost of $150million to make. I would wager it'll sell quite well as I've stated numerous times, easily reaching 2-3million sales IMO. But for the sake of arguement, what if it is the last to launch next year. Rift and GW2 both launch first and are successful and people don't pick it up. Now that willl drag its initial sales down.
Also its EA, and a lot of people don't feel that Bioware is releasing quality products anymore and may just pass on it. So lets say it only sales 1 million boxes. Retains 75% of the subscribers and slowly grows each month by 50k. How long will it take after all cost are accounted for each month(Salaries, server, customer service, etc) I'm not sure, a couple years?
Actually EA makes like 75% of box sales. 100% if downloaded from them. If they get around...1 mil box sales (not subs) is about...45-50 mil. If they keep about half of those subs (500k), which, I think, is a good mid point for their subs, then after a year, they would get about 90,000,000 dollars. They've won. Just about anyway. It's not some unreachable goal.
(I changed the numbers up because I thought they had a constant. sorry)

"EA and Bioware will never make a profit with the release of Star Wars: The Old Republic," according to Bigpoint CEO Heiko Hubertz
All I have to say is..HAHAHAHAHAHAHA yea right. Someone must have slept through the last 20 years of reality.
"I'm not cheap I'm incredibly subconsciously financially optimized"

sounds like some shit a kid in league of legends would say
This is a joke , a small fish who invest 10 million says a big project cannot succeed.
Cause all he see is his small pond , when there is a big ocean out there .
Honestly cashshop mmo have there world , and it appeals to people cause to earn cash while playing .
Subscription based MMO´s have there world cause they have a loyal fanbase .
Nowadays a lot of people try to mix the two , while mostly succesfull , its more when to stop being GREEDY !!!
Now cashshop mmo , they are greedy and every one playing it knows it .
Cashshop MMO i dont want to deal with them , cause simply put you spend a fortune for what ?
RFonline anybody ? sorry its simply put i like subscription base .
I pay and if the MMO shuts down , too bad we get 1 more month or 3 free .
But cash shop MMO shuts down , what the heck did you pay for ?
So yes mister Big can talk big cause its easier to fool people on cashshops mmo .
While its infact harder to do a subscription base .
