Curse bought out GW2Guru or something a few months back and is now under new admins and several regulars there are now moderators for some god awful reason.
It's a mess. I really dislike curse.
I had been using the original guildwarsguru since 2005 and was quite happy with it. When "Curse" took over I had some bad feelings about it, mostly because of rumored and known security issues. (Quite a few account thefts have been direcly linked to securitybreaches at "Curse" sites such as Aionsource)

That's one part I DON'T like about Anet. They don't have an official forum, yet they administer controls over all the fan site forums. That's because if the fan site what to be an "Official Guild Wars fan site" and listed on the official Guild Wars site, they have to obey what Anet have to say. In other words, they're all butt lickers.

Anyone who says this hasn't spent enough time on the forum then. The amount of complaining and such that goes out annoying and doesn't make for a pleasant forum experience. I suggest you check out the threads on potions and transmutation stones in particular.
Unfortunately Forumboards and Websites are like Digital Nations....their own population and self-imposed rules.
The other unfortunate things is that online websites prove the ever-so important notion of "If a law exists, its only good if its enforced" and since people who enforce laws can not be at every single point to enforce, it proves when human instinct arises, people will do whatever they want for their own power and gain.
Thankfully, since its not a national interest or national asset...One can fight fire with fire, by learning computers and taking the very dark road. Below is an example
I know a lot of people who are "strange" and "unusual" to the population. Many years ago, an ex-military woman who spent her years trying to become distant to her family went into a mcdonalds to order food that was local in the bad parts of the city. In there she was sexually harassed and put down. The place had gotten complaints....She held up the place and locked everyone in the freezer and blew out the cameras and really didn't steal anything. Threatened the people on sight that if she hears anything in the grapevine she will make sure someone pays them a visit in the future.
Monday came...and what do you know? Service with a smile. Everyone was greeted by someone at the door. All ordered were handled promptly. Workers "thanked" customers and filled orders in time and all the power-trip attitude was gone. A sole woman in five minutes handled what a population had tried to achieve in 2 years.
The same is true about Internet sites. Sites act mighty and powerful, until you learn database exploits..Hacking and once a site gets hit plenty of times....Thats when Moderation and Administration groups learn to be "nice" when they realize their threats about prosecution are "empty" and any smart hacker knows how to cover their tracks.....as its VERY VERY easy to prove in a courtroom that an admin/moderator forged entries in a log to set someone up through showing bias in performance and operation.
From my own personal experience and my days in different groups. Many sites and their teams are bullies...Acting like they should be treated like Gods. Once they reduced to mush by hackers...they lighten up and sites become friendlier. Also, A lot of sites exist as derivatives of old sites. Gaming comes to mind...so most people start game sites with communities taken from other sites as a way of promoting change...However they usually become just as abusive.
A solution can be from the high road (peace, happiness and the right way of resolution accepted by society) or it can be the low road (Fear, threats...the way not accepted by society)..If you wish to investigate this matter further, look at the differences between Malcolm X and Mr. Luther King. ^_^

Hehe... Good post and v good read. I think gw2g is fairly friendly tbh, a small pussy cat compared to mmorpg
It's true put the wrong ppl in power and it makes ppl fall apart eg Hornblower books: Mutiny Captain James Sawyer & 1st L Buckland...
I'd also say that gw2guru in general is very friendly, but i may be biased :P
I can't speak for every thread ever but for the most part the conversations do seem to be far more civil than most forums, and the technical support forum is easily one of the friendliest i've ever taken part in. Even the Nvidia vs. AMD debates have been very civil! I can't speak for the whole forum but i particularly like that subforum. Also the rules for moderation for the most part can always be somewhat arbitary as there are no hard and fast rules on what is acceptable, it is up to the individual mod to decide what to do.
Is it a good idea? It depends on the moderators. Some aspects of other subforums (such as the tyrian assembly) i feel could be handled better (like the mishandling of the info causing this very thread) than just mass deleting, but for the most part i can't complain. I don't see any kind of power trips that would invoke the responses on this thread to be perfectly honest. I have debated points both in favour of arenanet and criticising, neither have ever lead to be being warned or having posts deleted based on my opinion. However i also do not create inflammatory posts or troll on about a point that has long since be proven redundant, i guess the complete opposite of me is probably the guy who gave me my signiture
In the end no-one ever feels like they're in the wrong, and to be honest mmorpg.com feels like the wild west compared to gw2guru, since a troll can roam free among the fields and pester anyone they wish for months on end without any retribution.therefore it is expected to see those who feel that they've been 'mistreated', but without seeing their posts we can only assume for a good reason.

MMORPG handles trolling very, very poorly, I agree.
GW2Guru has had pretty good moderation overall, imho.
As for the 2012 thing, my understanding is that this comment has zero source and the actually financial report doesn't have any comment like that. MMOsite just kind of made it up.

Well, you can say that...until you got a legit (or so you think) forum post that got (unjustly) deleted.

Pretty much. If it was an announcement we'd have a real source (i.e. that very announcement) by this point, and the NCSoft west investors call about a month back indicated a 2011 release. So as far as this 'news' goes, it's a load of tripe.
They keep deleting my posts over there too and it's really pissing me off.
Ever since those curse admins showed up the moderation has been bad. If you have anything to say that's not kissing anets ass then it gets deleted. Harsh criticism is not acceptable over there unless the vast majority agrees and voices a word on it too. 'Bout ready to wash my hands of guru.
I was not aware of admins outside of guild wars 2 guru actually being able to perform moderation duties. It's most strange. I tend to spend most of my time in the technical support forum though so it may have escaped my notice.
Curse bought out GW2Guru or something a few months back and is now under new admins and several regulars there are now moderators for some god awful reason.

Thanks for the headsup, knowing that I won't touch the site. Regardless of the op being right or wrong, I simply don't like Curse due to some nasty little issues they've had in the past.
Same here.
The mods and 2 of the 3 active admins are all guru. Pre-curse. The only changes have been in server stability and that the forum is switching from VBulletin to IPB. As a whole, stability has improved. Its like people writing off ArenaNet/Guild Wars 2 because NCSoft is producing the game. GW2G is still GW2G. The only change in moderation style that I've seen is that mods are not supposed to swear in the #gwg IRC channel.
You misunderstood. It's not about who the mods or admins are, it's that it's part of the curse family. Visits to Curse sites have been linked to numerous stolen accounts as a likely cause. They have a rep of having infected ads and what not. All in all I could care less about how something is moderated lol. If I don't like it I will simply post somewhere else.
And no, writing off the use of a fan site for being part of the Curse network which has a history I'm not overly fond of (Due to the link between the curse network and the loss of accounts to the actual games) is not anything remotely close to writing off Anet/GW2 because NCsoft is the publisher.
Hey i started a thread about NcSoft information about Guild Wars 2 and B&S. I provided links to the source, Ncsoft were the ones being interviewed. We all know ArenaNet said they will tell us when it's released but NcSoft still has some power over them. Some people probably wanted to know this.
But no the mods deleted my thread and said it was false information...it's still information and if it comes from Ncsoft it should be trustworthy. The date could possibly change but right now they have said 2012.
What do you think we should do with these mods?
Edit: Now i got banned because i made new threads, when they didn't get i had the right to make a thread about that information. Don't get their intellect level, must be really low.
You have no rights. Their house their rules.
You have a right to post your opinion in a civil manner, and that is true across all subforums in gw2guru. I'm guessing this topic has obviously caused several flame wars prior to the OP's thread, so it was likely that the mods of that subforum were already quite annoyed with the whole matter.
To be honest, a lot of the time forum posters seem to have very skewed ideas about what is civil anyway. If a forum was indeed a house, then most posters would be the equivalent of someone walking in, drop kicking the cat and proceeding to yell at the top of their voice over the tv program you were watching.

There is no rules on the internet, it's the world free web.
I made the thread and seconds later it got deleted. Impossible for someone to flame when there is no posts and "flame" is a lame word, use the word "speculate" it's better.
Sorry to drift a bit off topic, but do any of you know when they started working on this title?
They started to work on GW: Utopia right after Nightfall. That then got turned into GW2 and GW:EN almost a year later so it depends on how you count. Just over 3 or 4 years.
I wonder if this isn't more for the "General" forum instead of GW2, Guru seems generally to have started to delete a lot of stuff the last few months and while it in some cases are justified they seems to be censoring the sites quite badly now.
There is no rules on the internet, it's the world free web.
Go register at any forum and you will find a set of agreements that you click that you agree to by clicking the I Accept button to become a member of that forum.
Don't like the forum's rule? Can't follow then? Don't go back to the site.
Making a thread on a forum to cry about the moderation on another forum makes you look like a whiney 17 year old.

Lol and even if you yourself own the forum you can get into problems, ask Piratebay and wikileaks.
The web is still the place with most free speech in the world but I shudder at the thought of a unmoderated forum, the trolling would be over the walls.
All that said, Guru seems to have hardened the rules up a bit too much.

Yup. They delete any post that's tough criticism over there.

*cough*4Chan*cough*
Their unmoderated forum has gone so kudzu that the trolling has even leaked into the real word.
Back to topic, the forums over at guru have no set of rules that can be abide by since the rules change over there on whims of the mods.
Some of you may know me as JR, an ex-admin of GuildWarsGuru and GuildWars2Guru. If you have any doubt as to my validity you can send an email to JR@guildwarsguru.net, and I shall respond.
With that out of the way, allow me to shed some light on this issue.
A big, big problem with hyped up games like Guild Wars 2 is misinformation. MMOSite, the site to which the OP referenced in his removed post, is famous for deliberately promoting misinformation. They take any rumour they can, sensationalize it, and then post as if it were actual confirmed news. This gets them a lot of link backs, a lot of traffic, and thus ad revenue. It's how they operate. The only way to beat people like this is to kill their traffic, which is why the news post was removed. Perhaps the OP should have recieved a PM informing him of the action, but that's pretty subjective as it's not standard practice. Mods honestly don't have the time to PM someone every time they delete or edit a post.
The argument that the thread should have been left open, so the OP could have been corrected, is understandable but not realistic. When a thread gets up to a certain post count, people stop reading past the first post. I've seen it dozens of times before where someone has posted a thread about some ridiculous rumour, it has been debunked entirely within the first few posts, but you are still getting people who believe it ten pages later. This is why trash has to be taken out, not discussed.
Secondly, the general strictness. It becomes clear just from reading this thread that there are those who have had posts removed and object to moderator actions, and those who haven't and appreciate the mature and reasonable discourse found on GW2G. You can't have one without the other, sadly. Either mods make an effort to keep threads clean and on track, or they don't. It's waaaay to easy for a thread to be dragged off course by a few fairly innocuous posts. What might seem to you as an overreaction is just smart preemtive action to any experienced moderator. Consider the value of what you are adding to a discussion, and consider its potential impact.
Finally, have a little respect. Moderators dedicate many hours of their spare time toward making forums run correctly, and it's generally pretty thankless work. If you are reasonable with them, they will be reasonable with you.
[EDIT: Funnily enough, I just realized that my one other post here was ALSO correcting damage done by an MMOSite news post. Funny, huh?]
Hi, sorry for bringing this old thread up but im just sick of this _____ site! (GW2Guru)
Guess why was i banned today? Because i suggested ________ admins not to ______ send ban warnings left and right.
Guess what , you can not post twice in 1 thread there without geting warning for ban, you can not say that you dont like GW2 without getting a warning for a ban.
Simply you to know, do not go to this site.
GW2Guru is the most fanboish site in the existence of internet.

Why are you on the GW2Guru forums if you don't like the game. Its supposed to be a community web site, and if you don't like that, find another game with a less enthusiastic community to complain about.
GW2Guru is kind of the substitute for official forums. So far, they have "dealt" effectively with to sorts of people that they believe are there just to kick the **** around and complain.
feel free to complain, just donn't do it in the 7th thread complaining about the same thing.
It would probably be best just to wait for the game to come out to complain about something. That way, your opinion can just become a part of the aggregate of general opinion based on actual experience.
The news is slow, but when thee is news, it is usually going to be posted on GW2Guru.
Community managers visit that site. If they have to deal with troll threads, it makes their job harder. Its not like your opinions don't matter, but don't be stupid and try and piss of the people there.
If you don't want to get banned, don't mess with admins.
I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote.

1. I like it, i've been waiting for it last 4 years, i'm just pissed off that you simply can not post anything negattive about GW2. hell i played Gw1 for 3 years my opinion should matter if for exaple i post that PvP modes in GW1 so far looks better than what we know about GW2.
2) Since when i can not say that i don't like new Engineer profession? Oh , wait thats trolling.
I am never ever posting in GW2Guru to piss anyone off, i am never trying to insult anyone, yet adminds assume so -___-
and this is which i can't stand , i wont be another memmber who says or is doing nothing about this.

Hi everyone.
Not even guild wars think you guys should be anticapating this game...Maybe you guys should change your lost prophet.
