I can't wait for the genres to start blending more.

I think BRINK ( I may be wrong in the title's name ) by Bethesda has a great concept in adding massive multiplayer to the actual story and gameplay of a FPS. Seems like a more natural way than just tacking on MMO style this or that to a FPS sorta interface thingermajig.

The more this happens the less we'll notice it and the more we'll accept it.

I always wanted to play a ninja MMORPG but I'm glad there's not been a real one with traditional mmo controls because it'd suck. There's nothing fun about being a static jumping ball of hp ninja. But a wall running, ceiling crawling, sword slashing ninja along with thousands of other players sounds awesome to me.

    Can't wait for that day.

Definitely! Though the issue with mixing MMORPGs with other genres is latency... It's frustrating to play a FPS with a high ping.

That'll come naturally. We're hitting the bandwidth crest in the world and it'll make developers and engineers learn to use what we got efficently. Before they'd just try and fill as much space as possible and hope the tech would grow with them.

The beta that the guys that work at Valve and their Source engine are using now has measures in to get more online gaming out of using a more focused space. It doesn't mean much for mmogs at the moment, but if you follow that sort of news it has a chance at leading to the development of 'more for less' in using online resources.

It'll happen. There's too much money to be made otherwise.

“MMOs aren’t even close to keeping up with cutting edge videogames from a gameplay or presentation perspective.”

I agree. MMO's as a genre suck, with only a few exceptions and decent games. however there are a couple mmo's which are pretty cutting edge on presentation such as age of conan. generally the gameplay of mmo's is atrocious I really look forward to more action and shooter mmo's. its the scape of mmo's I like not the tedious and outdated gameplay.

First off, you need a keyboard to really play a MMO no matter what he says.  The entire idea of a MMO is to communicate with others, otherwise you might as well just play single player fps or rpg games.  Most consoles do not have keyboards, so most designers don't make that mandatory to play.  Hence I question whether his game will actually be a MMO because the game will obviously not want to exclude those without keyboards.

He basically wanted to stir up controversy to get his game noticed, so he made a ridiculous statement sure to turn some heads.  Hey if he wants to play the fool to get attention it is his business.

Jeff Strain is at the helm of this company and this game, he doesn't need to seek attention.

Considering he left NCSOFT in 2009, and its been almost 2 years hes been working at undead labs, and they are still no closer to what they started on 2 years ago.  I think him and the guys at undead labs need to see some folks who wear white coats.

I just went to their website and took a good look around,  there whole entire player base they are shooting are the folks who love zombies,  you know the ones who go to parades and dress like zombies.

2 years of work on a console mmo,  rofl.  I know what I will not be buying any time soon. Then the enitre rant of if you dont like mmo's you will love this game rofl.  No thanks.

Any MMO othat has less than three years development time should not even be taken seriously, in fact depending on who you ask after two years the game should not even be in Alpha.

I'm not even sure if the technology exists to allow for a globally acceptable ping. Bandwidth isn't the issue, just the speed of the signal. It could be improved, I guess, with smarter routing, but not by that much.

It's not that MMO's in general are stagnet or that console games are trotting out the same old formula for the different genres, i believe it's the industry in general that is stagnating with the exception of a few developers. Most game developers are afraid to change from the accepted norm of what's out there.
