so I zoned out while driving...

I remember gettin off from work, getting on the highway and then ... nothing.  I drove for a good 30 minutes and can't remember anything about the drive.  I even missed my exit.  The only thing that made me snap back to reality was that my gas light came on.

I've heard stories from people saying that they have this happen to them sometimes on their way home where they kinda "come to" and they're parking the car in their drive way and can't remember actually gettin on the high way but I always thought they were kinda makin shit up.  I guess it really does happen.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.

Didn't see a bright light in the sky just before this "missing time " happened?  or have strange marks on your body now?

Ive done this to an extent. I was deep in thought on the road and blew thru a red light. Not a light changing from yellow to red, it was a full on red light more then half way thru its cycle to go green again. I realized what i was doing but couldnt alter my course, and drove right thru it. I got lucky.

Ive never completely zoned and drove home robotic style and not remembered the drive. But that would be intresting. Id ponder on doing that for years into my life. Wondering how many other things i do in a robotic fashion without thinking about them.

I used to work as a copier tech, and spend about 75% of my day driving all over the place using highways alot.  I've had this happen quite a few times.  You just can't remember anything about the drive you just drove.

I've also had something a bit different and more weird happen about a dozen times in my 6 years as a tech.  I called it "driving amnesia".  Basically, all of a sudden while driving, I'd forget where I was, where I was supposed to be going and why I was going there.  Even if it was a somewhat familiar place, this has happened.  Strange as hell.  Thankfully it would only last for about a minute.  But in that minute it was freaking crazy.

For the record, I don't drink ever, nor do I do any type of drugs.

Happened to me once coming home from work, zoned out, almost ran up the ass of somebody who had slowed down randomly, my intention was to change lanes anyway so instead of hitting the brakes I swerved into the other lane and kept driving. Some guy was in the other lane but there was plenty of space, he gave a little beep and I got safely home.. slightly embarassed.

i've done that a few times. most notably was on a drive from phoenix, az to buena park, ca. i-10 is an interstate freeway that i am very, extremely familiar with. i've been on every single mile of it from santa monica, ca to jacksonville, fl. while driving somewhere between blythe and buena park, i seem to have lost all recollection of the drive. i do remember wanting to take a break at chiriaco summit to get some junk food and something to drink. that never happened. i finally came back to things when i was on highway 91 and only miles away from my exit. it was weird. i've also zoned out along i-25 between pueblo, co and colorado springs. i only snapped back to reality when my pre-pass transponder began flashing the green light, indicating that is it okay for me to pass by the monument hill weigh station without having to stop and roll across the scale, possibly being told to park, and bring in all paperwork.

It only happened to me once in my life back in the late 70's.  I was so drunk, I woke up in the morning with a cow next to me and didnt know who she was or how I got home.  I ran outside and my truck was half in the grass and half in the road with the doors wide open.  I had to actually ask her who she was.  OMG

This is a scary thread. You mean I may be driving next to someone with highway hypnosis and it is this common??

I've had ADD very bad and have a hard time paying attention but this has never happened to me. I am always super aware of driving and the music that I am playing even when I have driven under the influence (years ago but luckily my dumbass didn't get caught).

    lol

I have a hard time sleeping in cars though unless I know someone is a good driver. I like to watch the road and help the driver spot something unexpected like a deer and get nervous whenever the driver is riding someone's ass. People die from car accidents all of the time . .. it is more dangerous than flying but hopefully there are no pilots out there with flying hypnosis.
