How many people still play?

tu_uilwentu_uilwen Member Posts: 794

I was wondering.....

since the release of EQ2.....are there still alot of people on the servers or is it like.....starting to become like a barrens with no one to see in the distance?

If so that owuld suck.

I played EQ for 3 years and now my comps been down for about 7 months and finally I am getting it fixed and was looking foward tok palying EQ again but I thought about EQ2 and was wondering if there is anyone that is still playing and if it would be worth coming back to or just saving money and getting EQ2....

Any feed ack here would be GREATLY appreciated.

I have heard mixed reviews of EQ2 from EQ players. Almost a 50/50 split out of say 30people. EQ didnt get hit hard with EQ2 release but onced WoW came out! Oh did it you see once strong guilds drop in 1/2. You see many of the higher ones that are elemental beging for help from other guilds due to member base fall off. The guild Im in has a few dabling but our raid numbers are still there you just dont have them on grouping. You also notice a comunity smaller then it once was. It is realy hard to find a zone with more then 50 in it on Ayonae Ro besides Bazaar and PoK of course. Just to give you a Idea BoT has max 15 people now. Yes I have been to OoW as well but they are also low in numbers it seems. WoS once had a average of say 70 now you see 30 to 40 on peek times. Its hard to find groups but they are out there. So I would say if you thinking EQ2 no stay in EQ just from what I have heard. Most of the pains *occ punks, Ninja looters* have shown up there and I heard that from a GM.

I just returned to EQ1 after a few months away, and it looks like there are a fair number of people still playing. I had been afraid that it would be empty because so many of the people I used to play with have moved on to newer games (CoH, EQ2, and WoW, with most of them in EQ2 now), but there were people around in the zones I visited. There were fewer than there used to be, for sure, and I hear that a lot of guilds are going through a reshuffle due to low numbers.

Frankly, I was headed to WoW myself, but I want to play with my husband, and he doesn't feel like he's done with EQ1 yet, so there I am. I decided off the cuff which one of my accounts to reactivate, and the one I picked is mostly stripped and full of lowbies (55 being the highest level on that account), so I guess I have plenty to do to keep me busy til he's ready to move on.

I still play EQ from time to time.  i logged on the other night for the first time in a month, but I am keeping my account active.  it comes in REAL handy for something to do when EQ2 decides to be down.

There are still quite a few people that are playing across most servers, but a lot of the higher-end guilds have suffered from the release of EQ2 and WoW (US), some to the point of folding.  I think there will be a similar hit when WoW (Euro) releases, but people are still playing.  I personally have seen quite a few return from EQ2 already, after the 'sheen' wore off, they are bored and want to go back to what is considered by them to be a more established and mature game.

I am certainly interested by WoW (Euro), but not sure if it would cause me to quit a game I've spent over 5 years enjoying.  I still do enjoy EQ1.

I still play all the time.

When the other new games came out there was a dip in EQ population but on the Nameless Server, that time has passed.

    <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

    People are coming back.

I think many people viewed EQII as the next step or natural progression from EQ, and have come back when they realized it is a very different game.

A lot of us EQ folks were not looking for a new game, since we were too busy playing the game we already loved.

New is not necessarily better if your having a good time.

EQ will be hard to kill. Theres still tons of people playing it. If you want to come back you wont have any problems finding people do to stuff with. Well no more than usual.

    Nimrod,
Most of the time SOE doesnt bother deleting accounts. Try logging into your old one first.

-- the atmosphere is def. different though. you could sense it, not seeing all the spam in the bazaar. only 50 in PoK, what?! so many people have left, making it hard for me (bard) to find a group, so I left a month ago. Like you said, it will be hard to kill, but its dieing slowly, but noticeably::;^`::

I went back to EQ on 12/14, and found it nearly impossible to find low-level (25-55) groups on Xegony with any of the characters I wanted to play in that range. :/ My husband had similar problems at higher levels due to not buying OoW.

This may be one of those things that varies a lot depending on which server you play on. It would be nice if you could still tell server populations, at least in relation to one another. (I remember seeing the pop. numbers... Ah, those were the days....)

I've cancelled my subscription. I regret paying for even this month. *sigh*

well, it has been like that long b4 EQ2 and the other big name MMORPGS of this year came out, it has been that way for aleast a good 6-12 monthes, sorry to say. and all the good lowbie zones, like Highkeep, and Befallen, and any other old world zone has been dead since like a year after Luclin, which is prety sad, since thouse where great zones, and i still go to highkeep sometiems to farm guards with my main, lol

I leveled a brand new character to 51 in July on pick-up groups, mostly doing LDoN, so it wasn't that way just a few months ago on Xegony. :(

I have been playing since Sept. 2004 on the Karana server.  On this server, I have had no problems in finding a group.  I've leveled 4 characters in that time (54 cleric, 36 enchanter, 22 wizard and 16 warrior) by pick up groups.  New people have shown up on a regular basis (mostly because of EQ Plat. ) and new guilds have been forming.  There have been downtimes (late evening and early morning on weekdays) but in general the server is filled with enough people to play with.  It's no different from any other MMORPG, the most populated times are the weekends (duh!).  I have yet to see the doom and gloom that has been described about EQ in this group.  Maybe it's happening, but not on my server.

  • Saren42Saren42 Member UncommonPosts: 94

well, it all depends on yea, what server, where int h game, and what you are used to and expect, I personly don't notice oto much differnce, the main differenc ei saw was back when PoP came out and Luclin, it killed the old world zones (by old worl i mean Velious and back) but manin PoP, and LDoN, and LDoN is a fad that is pretty much over, it was fun, in small doses, but i stilll love levelign in old world, and now they go ahead and ruin Mistmoor, it used ot be a great 20ish place ot lvl, but not now, they ruine dit, just go revamp it, i am mad aobut that,t hey make it a 65+ zone, they chng eit froma like lvl 25-40 zone (thats 15 lvls there buck-o) to a 65-70 zone (thats 5 lvls) i mean that make sno sense, are their programmers thatb oard? if so then stick t hem on bug duty, that woudl be great, but NOOO! lets revamp soem old world zones, but i swear, i mean it, if they ever ruin Kighkeep or befallen, so help me innoruuk, i shall strike them down!

  • BattleangelBattleangel Member Posts: 5
Sorry to hear that your LDON experience was ruined. On the Karana server, LDON's are hardly considered a fad, in fact joining the "ldon" channel often reveals anywhere between 50-110 people.  Again, depending on the time of day it is, it can take anywhere from 15 to 30 mins to find a full group.  All of my characters that can join LDON's often do.  It's just as popular to group in a LDON as it is to camp in KT, CB, DSP or any others.  The one gripe I do have about LDON"s is everyone just wants to do "collects" and not the others, I can't say I miss doing rescues (no one's ever wanted to do one with me), but it would be fun to do a slaughter or assassination every now and then.  Oh well, can't have everything I guess.  In short, LDON"s aren't anywhere as dead as you make them out to be, at least not on my server.

EQ Platinum is only 20.00 at walmart. I would go back after 4.5 years for that price and the game was still pretty active. What is the monthly and do you think Sony will drop the price. Also the sysreq are rather low so those who have lower end comps and dont want to spend money on a new comp EQplat looks mighty good.

Dedthom has always been ded, thats why they call him Dedthom.

It depends on the server really, on maylin starpyre the numbers dropped a bit, but not much. But on the Vazaelle server, if you go into kurns tower there are like two other people and thats it. So it depends on the server your on.but It could be that different zones are less popular on different servers.

Look at my anti-backstreet boys website at: www.88ruby88.tripod.com!I dont have many hits yet :( if you like it tell a friend!

Just to let you guys know I have heard rumors of server merges within EQ I. I kind of like the zones being quiet and all to myself, the only people that are hit hard are those who need uber numbers to do a raid.

  • brostynbrostyn Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 3,092
I can't speak for every server, but man it feels like a ghost town on vazaelle. The bazaar is pretty empty. I can never find gear, because its all the same people selling. Its rare to see a new item pop up. I hope people will come back. Its getting pretty lonely to play low levels. I don't enjoy the high level content in EQ, personally.
