you might just discover a really cool MMO called Life.
it's grindy, expensive, repetitive, has perma-death, slow gameplay, boring combat system, over-instanced, at times cartoony, community sucks and looks and feels and plays a lot like WoW.
this thread is full of fail. Everyone making assumptions that he's trying to find a girlfriend in mmos when all he did was ask how many females have we met that were taken/single. To answer the op, i've only met 2 that were single, one of them had some online stalker (this was WoW). She got phone calls and etc from a guy who was married with a kid .... was wierd as hell and its probably why most women, single or taken, say they aren't available in mmos. (or roll male characters)
Yes, it is wrong for us to think that the original poster had anything, but good intentions in mind.
However, it's also okay for a discussion to evolve. Either way I started a new thread on the matter that my line of thought has evolved to.
I apologize if I had said or implied that the original poster had any ill-intent.
You are playing the wrong game I guess. You just need to play games women prefer. Hello kitty online comes to mind. Although the target audience is young girls I know a couple of single women who love this game and they say most players are adults.
All depends how much pain you can tolerate playing a always nice game like hello kitty just to meet someone.
....The only time when I think it is ok is when someone is roleplaying.
Yup, when my wife starting playing wow she orginially played a female character. She wasn't 5 levels in before she deleted the character and restarted as a male character, because of this exact behavior.
Hell, I use to play some female characters myself until I was asked the same exact things. Then it's this kind of behavior that makes me hesitant to let my kids play games like this either, because a lot of these people have a lot nastier things to say.
Just think about how much worse it could be when you add voice-chat to that mix... I've always hated the idea of built in voice chat software, ever since I used to play CS 1.5 I've known just how degenerate some people can be.
Thank god for private ventrilo servers with admin access, but in-game voice chat seems to be the future in this industry.
Worst of all is that /ignore doesn't stop someone from following you and griefing you. That kind of harassment is like something a GM would have to step in for; how would you know to contact in game support if you're new to MMOs? sad.
Actually I have been stalked in game before... This guy followed me for about half a day trying to grief and troll me... I was so pissed and confused by this you have no idea. It turned out that this guy was someones RL ex boyfriend and this someone just happened to be trying to give him a clue that not only did she not want to have anything to do with him but that she had already moved on... she told him that I was her new boyfriend (without telling me, we really only just flirted a lot nothing serious) just so he'd give up.
Her plan obviously backfired and I ended up as the uber bad guy in all of this (even to her!?)... because after we had our evil fun trying to ditch this guy in game, try to get him stuck in the world and stuff, overzealous emoting and all sorts of secret lover RP to bring out some jealous ex-bf ranting, I told her I wasn't looking for any serious commitments and long distance relationships suck. She then turned on me blaming me for all her troubles and blah blah...
I'm friendly to everyone, and have no reason not to be, I never used any bf/gf language or anything with her, I acted the way all men should act when it comes to MMO-chicks. Don't treat them any differently then men on an in-game level, and don't say/do anything that would make her uncomfortable on a personal level. If they respond positively to flirting/promiscuity, nobody is at fault, and most of it is harmless fun. Just don't be an asshat. But my personal code of conduct got me into big trouble in this case, somehow I got too personal with a psycho chick...
So it can happen on both sides. In the end the whole idea of relationships and bf/gf in an MMO setting is like acting like your still in high-school when you should have grown up and learned a better way.
Females play MMOs, I've met LOTS in both LOTRO and WoW.
But every single one (out of about 35 that I've personally met in-game or talked to)...all are either married or have a boyfriend.
Do single females actually play MMOs? And no, I'm not talking about the guys that roleplay female characters to get free loots.
I think lot's of people have already pointed out that alot of women are going to be introduced to mmorpg's by a boyfriend or husband and like it or not it is not going to be as high a priority for them as it tends to be for men if they are single. I hope to not sound sexist but women are often taught and locked down upon for that much more than a man who is known to just be playng the field.
Ironically I met a girl the other day when I joined a kinship in LOTRO who is in fact single but the truth is I didn't even care to know because I'm married. I find it a bit telling that you say you've met thirty five women in game and know the status of all of them, it could simply be that you are a bit too eager. As others have touched on when women playing games feel "rushed" they will tell you the most obvious thing to deflect unwanted attention.
In my experiences I've met many women who have told me they are single in game, and I've met some that said they were married but still tried to flirt anyway. The one common factor of those situations though was that I have never asked a girl if she was single or not. Luckily that doesn't happen with every women that I meet in game some I have just played with and enjoyed the adventures we had together.
If you really want to find a woman into mmorpgs though you're better of hitting the convention circuit, obviously conventions specific to the genre or a particular game are best but hitting things like sci-fi conventions and comic book conventions can be a good place to go as well since they in lot's of ways can share a common link.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
I think it shouldnt matter if theyre taken or not. Because
a) Theyre probably on guy chars or will send people right to ignore for one coment. (I do this. Do you have how many pervs there are in Champions online and City of Heroes eu server? Havent had any bad experiences in US server though)
-.-
b) If theyre actively trying to get attention then they probably dont care about you and only care about the attention. To much you get ignored, too little you get ignored. Like evil psychos

c) They are most probably taken. If youre really unlucky, they juggle 4-5 online 'partners who really arent partners'.

The question "How many females in a MMO are taken already?" turns into a discussion about "Why most women in MMOs aren't single or make themselves unavailable"
There has been a lot of discussion about the horror it is being a new-to-MMO-female-gamer and just how bad, bad can get when it comes to being harassed and stalked, in game or RL.
The common conception of a female who plays MMOs and announces she is single is that she's an attention whore, or Call-Girl in training.
But for those who have had some learning experience in this matter, we know there is still much hope and that any girl that's worth having something serious with via an MMO. All the worthwhile girls keep extra walls up so their MMO world isn't turned sideways and destroyed by horny basement teenagers.
If you have a good enough outward personality it will shine through those extra walls these girls have and you will attract the right crowd of friends. If you approach it like you'd approach a prostitute ("hey u girl?" "u wanna be my gf?") expect to be shunned as a basement sociopath.
Another really good one girls use is saying they are lesbian, I wonder how many real lesbians to don't-harass-me lesbians there are in MMOs?

LOL, I totally forgot about this golden rule. Worst thing you could ever do to ruin your chances with any girl is ask them about their availability. You should assume they are all single and if they get offended well then who cares she's already someone elses problem.

I wouldn't advise looking for love in MMO's, but it can happen. I met my wife many years ago playing FFXI. We had a long distance relationship for awhile, met up in rl and dated, then got married and have been together and gaming ever since. So it can happen, but I don't think it's overly common. Though I will say that FFXI turned out to be a rather couple friendly MMO. Knew several that met in game and hooked up irl, many husbands and wives played and many boyfriends and girlfriends.
But a direct answer to your question... I have no idea how many single females play MMO's. I generally don't care enough to ask and the only ones I know the status of are the ones that introduce me to their BF or Hubby. I am with the ones that feel the OP should try Rl means, as oppossed to trying to find a match online in MMOs. Even an online dating service for that matter. I got my wife into playing MMOs, and would suggest that to anyone looking to play MMOs with a S/O.
We had a woman, in our guild, actually leave the US to marry a guy in Canada back in EQ. Those cases always seemed to be the exception, and not the rule.
The norm was things didnt work out.... then folks were put in the middle.

95% of girls over 16 in RL are already taken too. The moment they are not in a relationship there is about a 15 minute timeframe before they get into a new relationship with some dude that was kept on hold. No female can stand being single for longer than that, ever.

Yes single girls exist in video games, but we aren't going to tell you we are single. Once I said I was single and this dude just stalked me, wanted to be my boyfriend...I just wanted to play a damn game. So now whenever someone asks if I'm single, I say I have a boyfriend, makes 90% of the weirdos back off.

Also over the age of 16 there's a ratio of 1 guy to every 6 girls or so. So that means, there's a lot of lesbians and players out there. Wait, actually that supports your statistics.

If you chance happen to get into vent with a Call-Girl in training just remember one thing... don't ever bring attention to the fact that they are training to enter the sex trade, that will get you an instant ignore.
The women your mother warned you about.

Every female gamer I've met has been single. 2 of them I dated which was probably the biggest mistake ever. Dating female gamers isn't all that at least it wasn't for me. One was really crazy. The other would drool at any sign of a nerd giving her attention. I'd much rather date a woman that is just cool with gaming. The few others I've met following my adventures of dating women gamers were the ones that latched onto "elite" groups, just hoping around to whomever was the best pvper etc.
It's funny because I'd much rather have a conversation with a female gamer that is married.

Well unlike us guys most of them don't have a natural affinity to gaming so they have to be introduced to gaming by someone. Most of them are introduced to gaming by their boyfriends or husbands.

its not realy on topic. but,, for us who haw a wife.. how the friking He"" do we tempt her to try MMo?
I got my wife playing by starting her with console games. I'd play some multiplayer consoles games with her and she liked that so we tried more games, eventually she started playing console games on her own, then I showed her some MMOs and compared them to multiplayer games we played in the past.
She finally got interest in one we were playing together and now she plays them on her own when I'm not around and with me when I'm home. Worked out pretty well
This is how I found my MMO wife. We started dating about 1 month before EQ2 and WoW came out. I got both and end up playing WoW, EQ2, SWG, and MXO and she always heard me talking about this and that about the different games. Finally I started talking to her about try it out. And she was like NO, but I wore her down after about 2 or 3 months. And she final said that if she was going to try any she would try WoW. She she made a toon on my account, and with in 2 weeks we where picking up a copy for her because I pushed that if she had an account we could play together. Well here we are going on 6 years and she is as addicted to MMOs as I am. Her first love is WoW, but thats because it was her first MMO. But I get her to play all the ones I am playing. That is when she has time.
haha! lucker! i hope she's hot too (for you, man, i dont care for your wife)
but this is really really creepy, why do you want to meet females in MMO's? i dont understand, its about the game not the sex of the player. if i play WoW and 4-5 players start playing occasionally with me i will just get the details of ASL and get the basic idea of who they are and keep on playing the game...
if you wanna meet chicks and go out together.. do it in real life.. you dont know what kind of pigs and animals are behind the monitor (much like female version of the guy in the WoW episode in South Park) ...
Forgive me for not agreeing with the accusations of you all, but are you sure he's not asking this, in the same way surveys would ask this? Meaning, like, he's not trying to just find out if that even happens? I don't think he said he was looking for a relationship, if he did, sorry, but just remember, assume makes an ass (out of) u (and) me.
Haha...my sentiments exactly...sheesh.
