Trying to decide between free to play mmorpg's

kanazkykanazky Member Posts: 5

Last Game I've Played: Dragonica, Vindictus

Favorite Previous MMORPG: Knight Online

Games Tried: Knight Online, Dragonica, 2moons, Decide Online, Vindictus, Infantry Online

Game Currently Considering: Allods, Perfect World, Runes of Magic, Lotro

I have a hour or two a day to spend gaming on a mmorpg, I usually like a Mage or Archer class, sometimes get into priest classes. I liked vindictus however I recently noticed there is no customization sadly. I really liked dragonica but there wasn't a very good pvp system like knight online.

Things I Like:

- Nice full effect classes

- Customization

- Decent Grind but not to over the top (2moons max level would take forever!)

- Some sort of War System

- Party Leveling :) (I know all games have it, but some games seem to be more solo oriented.)

Other then that not to pickie :) Any recommendations or just to confirm one of my games would be super sweet :)

-Not too sure what you mean by full effect class. All classes in a game should be effective in a party.

-Character customization in looks, or backstory? If it's looks, I've enjoyed using Allods.

-Allods has a giant grind so be wary of that.

-What type of war are you looking for? RvR (Faction versus Faction)? I don't know of any RvR wars for free except maybe WAR but that's an unlimited trial.

-Party Leveling. It's true all games have it, some are limited, I haven't actually partied much so I can't help you along those lines.

I'd suggest checking out Forsaken World (Closed Beta right now) but it is made by Perfect World Entertainment.

Thank you for the quick response :)

By Full Effect Class, I mean tons of skills, and graphics. Sorry for being unclear on that :)

What kind of grind do you suggest Allods has? I hear its very cash shop dependant.

The last patch made it so you can go to max level without the cash shop. I would suggest Allods, Runes of Magic, Perfect World, and Forsaken World like the poster above. You had the quality F2P's already listed ;)

    Playing - EVE, Wurm

Retired - Final Fantasy XI, Anarchy Online, Mabinogi

    Waiting - ArcheAge, Salem

Yeah, Allods does have classes and all of them has lots of skills.....too many imo XD. I'm the type of person who likes to be able to use the same number of skills over and over but with Allods you'll have lots of options of skills to use so you'll need to make use of your hotkey bars very well. If you liek playing mage or archer, i would suggest going mage cuz some people say playing as an archer (scout) in Allods is a challenge in beginning but gets easier in later levels.

If you thought that 2moons had a crazy grind at max level, then Allods will be easy for you. Some people complain that Allods has a crazy grind but those people probably haven't gotten to end game on a lot of games like 2moons for example, so since you're like me who have played a lot of those games, Allods is an easy grind seeing how max level is only 42 and grind starts to kick in after level 20.

As far as cash shop dependant, that used to be an issue because they had a patch in July where you needed an item called incense to level. Even though you could buy the item from the ingame auction house, people still had trouble farming enough gold, so they recently added a patch where you can get 1 free incense a day along with an exp scroll without having to use the CS, so things have improved a lot since july whre you prolly heard people say that it's cs dependant.

    These are worth a shot:

Warhammers never-ending trial - most fun I had was in the first 10 levels anyways . ...

Dungeons and Dragons Online - being a non-subscriber will hurt you less in this game than it would in LOTRO and the dungeons are really fun.

I am not a big fan of F2P games and if I didn't have money I would probably just play the free-trials to all subscription games while keeping one good main F2P on the side. heh

    Then you're doing it wrong.

On top of that, Allods is pure cash shop at end game. If you don't use the CS, you've got no chance against people that do.

Your first three choices are pay-to-win. Go with LotrO.

If you put in the time and effort, you can get geared up with runes and stuff without needing to buy them directly from the CS and just get it from auction house. Also most MMOs have gear upgrades that are related to CS so no secret there.

You *can* get geared with runes. It'll take insane amounts of time and grinding though, but sure, you *can* do it.

And last time I checked, a level 10 rune gave 33% extra damage or 16.7% damage reduction. Now I'm seeing level 13 runes; surely a non-CS user will be able to compete.

They are all good picks in some way or an other. I personally would go with Lotro, just for the community ;]

you should go with Alganon. Its super duper great! ever since Dr Smart saved it. Its truely the BEST F2P game on the market. The are getting ready to add a revolutionary pvp system that will blow any other out of the water. You really should try to get in on the ground floor of the mega AAA hit before it explodes and becomes over crowded and your chance to be leader of the pack slips away.

Allods is a great game as long as you give it a good try. You won't have to really worry about the cs until end game/pvp. Haven't played it for a few months so im not sure how the recent patches have effected the game. Maybe by now someone besides me might actually know how to play a pally.

If you haven't played it for months, you should check it out again as some classes have changed a lot like psionicists and scouts. They added cool features like emotes and major bugs fixed. That and the highly talked about daily quests that give you free holy charms, incense, and exp scrolls. <-- This turned the community and games been having lots of players return.
