Long story short, I used to play UO, loved it until they made the PvP for care bears. Now I haven't played any MMO's in a long time because they all seem so similar, and made for the people who don't want to lose anything or they will quit the game (because they spent the last 4 years trying to get some item).
I want to know if anyone can recommend any games that have a good PvP system. I am playing WoW now, and will be quitting ASAP because the PvP is not meant for true PvP'ers, it's meant for people who would never PvP, but since you can't lose any loot, or have any rewards or consequences, they decided to play on the PvP servers.
Basically all I'm looking for is to be able to loot, I'm not even talking a Free for All type game, just one where there are somewhat "real" consequences for dying, and mainly, if I die, or kill someone, I expect most of their loot they are carrying to be dropped. I didn't realize this was so hard to ask, but it seems any decent MMO's these days are completely for care bears...sorry for using the word "care bear" but I really don't have a better term for it, if your going to cry over a video game because you lost a fake object that is not real, then you probably should get some counciling.
Proceed to flame, or give me some advice as to which games are not like EQ2, and FFxi, I want to be able to PvP, and no gh3y WoW PvP either..that is just ridiculous.

I hear you! Ive been asking that same stuff to my friends(except the WoW being gay). One of them suggested shadowbane but I want something that wont ruin my eyes due to the bad gfx.
I love getting the rush and excitment of almost dying and loosing your stuff that took weeks to get. Or having that satisfaction when you kill someone with that one rare item and now its all yours!
Please someone out there suggest to us pvpers!

Go either with L2 or GW.
If you want a game that is released already, go to L2.
Dark and Light will also have a good PvP system. It won't be as harsh as UO, but I'm pretty sure you will be able to loot gold off of another person.

I totally hear ya man. Looking for the same thing myself. My advice is STAY AWAY from Lineage 2. Complete mess of an mmo, What you want if you haven't already played it is: ASHERONS CALL (1), and with their new expansion "Throne of Destiny" coming out very soon with a complete graphics upgrade, this is exactly what you are looking for. There is ONE server with FREE-FOR-ALL PvP with item drops, stat penalties that grow up to 40% (5% per death) that must be worked off. Half the gold (AC "pyreals") also drops on a players death. The PvP server is "DARKTIDE". Try it. You'll love it, much more then any darned L2, trust me. Not as good a graphics, but a MUCH better game. I'd get in now and get your feet wet before the expansion comes out, and just keep in mind it's gonna get better with the new expansion and level increase from the current max 126 to 275.

Ones that are still in development and I'm personally waiting on are Mourning and Darkfall. They will have free for all PvP with risks and rewards.
ShadowBane. Nothings more hardcore than that, its alot more hardcore than oldschool UO. Trust me, if you ever end up building up a city to get it destroyed, you dont know the definition of grief. And that will happen to most people(i never owned a city btw, nor would pharm enough to ). You also get to loot other peoples corpses, the pvp mechanics are like old school UO or at least as close as your going to get to it, and it really doesnt look bad especially if you liked old school UO, in fact its almost like an improved version of UO's graphics.
While i dont think WoW's pvp system sucks, i agree it has no purpose. I dont think it needs to be hardcore or cause alot of grief to be fun tho. Imo that was the major problem i had with SB, it was based on grief so much,, that winning or beating another nation came down to griefing the opponent to the point of not wanting to login anymore. And people took the game unbelievably seriously due to the high grief stakes to the point that the game and the expectations within guilds/nations was to set your RL schedule around the game, which is how many people play it/have to.
Anyhow, its a fun game in terms of just pvp, the combat mechanics are good and take skill in forethought/reaction, whic is why i'd reccomend it.
hope some1 reads this
DAoC has a very interesting PvP mechanic that can definately be fun... but it simply doesn't even compare with Asherons Call on the Darktide server. Some Asherons Call PvP fights could go on for as long as 20 minutes before someone won. Between healing kits, slashing an acid weapon, and hearing the magic words "Zapaj" as you watched another Frost bolt tear into your soul was simply the bomb. While I've had plenty of fun in DAoC PvP'ing, I have never been on the edge of my seat as Asherons Call's PvP put me sooo many times. And I am not just an AC1 PvP fanboy because it was my first mmo game. I played UO 2 years before Trammel came along and I moved along to the newly released game of Asherons Call back in 99. I'm telling you, I've played over 20 mmorpgs. Nothing yet has even come close to the depth and fun that Asheron's Call offers. Ultima Online is 2nd. DAoC comes along 3rd. I am looking forward to Mourning and Dark and light which seem to promise great PvP and game mechanics that actually offer more challenge as well. But in the end I'll probably be disappointed yet again by companies that seem more interested in gimmicks, pretty graphics, and stream-lined BS features to make a buck then they they are in actually putting out a challenging, fun, and thought-provoking mmo. 5 years from now, I may very well STILL be ranting that nothing has beaten UO and AC. If all the promises made good mmo's we'd already have about 100 of them out there. But empty, fun-lacking promises backed by nothing but corporate greed still leave Asherons Call 1 and UO as the mmo champions of the the more recent crummy crappy mmos of recent years. Gimme those two 20th century games over ALL the 21st century mmos anyday, anytime.
...Just a noob mmo players two cents. Here come the flames of how much better L2, SWG, FF11, and Crappola-17 (oh yeh and ofcourse the all glimmer, no substance EQ2 and WoW) are then my old school mmos. {sighs}

You might like Eve-online. In the high security systems, pvp = death, but all the valuble ores are in low security space. You get rougly half of what someone has on thier ship when you destroy them, the other half blows up. And with the price and rarity of some systems, you can really ruin someones week. If you go to the eve forum on this site theres a thread near the top for a free 7 day trial.
I loved old school UO, I still havnt found a game with PvP ive loved as much. But I am hooked to Shadowbane for now, I keep going back to it because its so well done (PvP wise). I am looking forward to Mourning or Dark and Light hopefully one will be my style. The PvP in Shadowbane if you are in a decent guild is sooo fun, you can go out and fight one on one, one on two, two on two and so forth. Most fights i get into are group vs group 10 vs 10, sometimes 2 groups vs 2 groups. I have been in some battles where we are seiging a player built city or being seiged, that have had 60+ vs 60+. They have been very fun, but can be laggy at times. the smaller battles dont lag at all for me now, it seems they have worked out a lot of the bugs dealing with that issue. The balance is another thing i love, there are multiple ways to make any class and multiple ways to make them effective. You can mix and match and balance with every race/class configuration you can think of. And you will be able to win against some pretty easily, and struggle to win against others. Its a very good team base game, but can be solo'd for sure (leveling and pvp).
Also the Level grind is very short compared to others, which is nice in this type of game setting. You can get up and running, if you know what your doing, in two days be pvp worthy (lvl 50ish out of 75 it slows down a lot after 55ish). They are also talking about adding a new Server which will increase the amount of XP while leveling, and making the player cities easier to build/destroy so it will be a much more evolving world setup. If mourning or Dark and Light dont suit me, I will probably give up and stick with Shadowbane for a year or two.
[Try the free 15 day trial at http://www.shadowbane.com/us/FreeTrial.php If you want a little help Email me at kingsnuff@yahoo.com or you can messege me in game send a tell to Lysergic (a wizzard im working on) /tell is the command. I am on the server Vengence.]
EVE Online has a pretty robust system, and you can gank to your heart's content.
SHADOWBANE - SB sounds like exactly what you are looking for, it has a dubious reputation because the publishers forced the dev team to release early and there were still a ton of bugs. That was two or so years ago and they are supposed to have their act straight now. The game was built around PVP and City Building.

wow I just checked out dark fall and it looks like a dream come true, but I heard the developers havent spoken in months which could be a bad sign.
heh if youve played uo chances are youll never settle for level games like L2 and GW.
I know i played uo for 3 years and i have the same problem as you - nothing compares to it. not the darnit levelling games with anime graphics.
BUT there is hope - im beta testing WISH right now... not the best graphics but its the nearest thing to a modern UO that you can find out there. The devs post about 3-10 posts everyday in the beta boards and have a strong commitment to this game.

as some have suggested already, go for eve. Yep you blow somones ship up he looses it and have to look for another one. And you get some of his equiped items and those in storage.
But the bad sides are, the learning curve is realy steep. And it will cost you lots of isk to go pvp. Look for a good corp and hope they fund your way into a battleship or tech 2 ship. Also don't expect to jump right ahead into pvp. Your skills will be to low to compete in pvp.
But don't expect that much tactic in a battle itself, there is no difference between front/rear. You can't change your settup in flight, even if you have the equipement in you cargo bay. Just warp in in start your weapons and keep at range if you are long range or close up if you are close range and put more on agility. It all depends on your settup you choose.
And also be prepared to be ganked by gank squads, npc or pc. Go figure it out for yourself what I mean with that
PS: the mining is just an argument and fastest way to make isk, but it is certainly not the only one.

"If all magic fails, rely on three feet of steel and a strong arm"
Yeah, personally, I can't stand Everquest PVP--- "I kill you, you kill me, we're a happy fam-ily." The early days of Ultima Online had it right where I wanted it--- and so does EVE Online. Personally, I don't like to duke it out with other players all that much. What I do like is for the things that I own in the game to have value; the only way they can really have value is if you risk losing them. When you get blown up in EVE Online, you don't get punished with a slap on the wrist and a 5 minute jog. When you get blown up it stings! Your ship is blasted to irreparable bits, your equipment is spewed into space for anyone to grab, and you are left with a 4 meter by 4 meter escape pod to float around in (which can be destroyed as well). As you can imagine, this not only makes PVP particularly exciting, but it also makes accumulating wealth and building an empire exciting too.
I guess you could say EVE has "PVP with a purpose". You don't just shoot at one another to see who is the biggest LEET BADASS PWNER! You fight one another for wealth, territory, resources and, okay, prestige once in awhile. PVP isn't just a feature of the game that carebears can turn off and on when their vaginas start hurting--- it is the game.
And, of course, there's different kinds of PVP. My personal favorite is economic PVP: cornering markets, price wars, paying a bunch of mercs to remove a few pesky miners to free up the resources that they are mining so that I can hoard them to myself! (hey, let someone else do the dirty work) ]:-) Then there's the good old fashion, ruthless, bloodthirsty, rob-some-poor-player-and-take-all-of-his-precious-goods-and-blow-up-his-escape-pod-when-you-are-done-with-'em kind of PVP. And then there's the dignified, fight a strategic war as a vassal in a glitsy navy created by a player empire kind of PVP. But, as I'm sure you've heard before, EVE is probably either your dream game or worst nightmare. Fortunately, there's a 7 day trial, so give it a wail :-) EVE has my vote.
I think you'll love Lineage II then.
Become strong, kill a low level character, loot all his items, walk out with a big grin on your face and pull out a big evil laugh. Then get owned by a higher level player cause that newb was friends with a veteran player. lol
It's open PVP, you'll looooooove the game...

honestly you really shouldnt act so demeaning towards PvE or even use the term 'carebears' when your not even into the PvP aspect of PvP games. I'm not saying i dont understand where your coming from cuz i do, but the condescending attitude towards non PvP is abit hypocritical when taken that you dont really enjoy PvP much.
PS i dont know how people are choosing Eve when its straight up point and click combat. No real skill involved, correct me if i'm wrong I mean if it were Freelancer style thats one thing, point and click sim is lame, unless your playing an rts.
