Hmm, this is one of those cases where everything sounds quite good to me, but unless I can "test drive" it first I won't even consider subbing it.
Their F5 spam gimmick on facebook to get codes is just silly. I'll wait for the inevitable open beta to see if this game really delivers on all the hype it's getting.
Sounds very promising! And knowing that a few folks from the EQ2 dev team are now at Trion is also a very good thing since some extraordinary features have been implemented in EQ2 (mentoring and chronomage are amongst them).
Games with two factions should not be able to advertise PVP. The last game to have good PVP was DAOC... *sigh*
There's a logical flaw there, see if you can find it. I'll give you a hint. Any game with 3 factions PVP is superior to any game with 2 faction PVP.
Game sounds good, but less of the guided experience is better in my mind. I want to be let loose in the world and play the way I want. Themeparking has already been done to death.
But he is right. 3 faction pbp is alot better than 2 faction. Daoc was the last great pvp game.

Can someone answer why more games do not use the 3 faction system or more? I agree having more then 2. I remember in DAoC as an infi it was awesome to sneak up on a char in Hib and start attacking it and at the same time a SB from Mid starting attacking the same mob. Once the Hib char was killed then a toe-to-toe with the SB. Definetly made PvP more interesting!!!
My only complaint is that it sounds like any other game, but with a few changes. So this is progress, but not enough. Match based pvp, elves, respawns, etc. Its all been done and it gets boring. Im looking forward to the dynamic content and freer class system, but Im not sure yet thats enough to overcome the rest which ive seen before.
Everything about this game looks great, but I just do not want to be some kind of undead-ish reborn hero. Scrap the "Souls" system and this reborn special hero stuff and I'd be all over this game.
What the heck could you want it to be?
Just a living breathing person (Human, Elf, Dwarf) starting in a village and making my way out into the world.
Average smuck weiling weapons and using magic?
Yes. Why not? Start ordinary, work hard, become extraordinary.
Regular non reborn hero?
Yes.
Fallen heroes?
For some, that is attractive, but I kind of see it like the Deathknight in WOW. Cool, but not everyone's cup of tea.
LOL like they are going to scrap any of it. Looks like this is not the game for you because the main characters roles in the lore do not suit your fancy.
I never thought they'd scrap it, too late now. But..., unless there is nothing of comparable quality on the horizon, I will likely pass on this game for the reasons I have stated.
To me, fantasy should be bright and wondrous. It can have its dark spots and dangerous areas where monsters lurk, but the overall fantasy world should be a place I would like to live in, were reality to allow. Sort of like Middle Earth; just a warm, fun, and simple place.
But reborn heroes and such is too dark for my tastes. Maybe this MMORPG is in the category of "dark fantasy", which is a legitimate category.
Just a thought....Rift is a 2 faction PVE game with PVP elements. I do not think PVP is a primary focus of the game just an added feature; whereas the endgame of DAOC was PVP. I do agree though - 3 faction PVP is the best.
It certainly looks like a pve focused game to me. Focus on pve and an option to run a few battle maps. Overall the game seems good.

Just because you enjoyed DAoC, doesn't mean that it was only because of the three factions. FFA PVP has "infinite" factions, so you must enjoy that better than three factions of DAoC, therefore Mortal Online is the best game out there, and only it, Eve and Darfkall should be albe to advertise PVP.
That's the "logical" extension of that line of thought. It's entirely possible that DAoC would have had good PVP with just two factions. You don't know that the only thing good about it was that it had three factions, because you have no baseline to compare it to.
There's more to making entertaining PVP than some magic number of 'sides'.
With the exception of the rift mechanic I fail to see anything special about this
Dont want to troll nor nothing, just giving my opinion about it
The rift mechanic....which is a big part of the game. I mean it is only callled Rift: Planes of Telara.
It is going to have an extremely robust class selection and combination.
Dungeons change over time as you level more.
On top of knowing where to innovate things and what things to keep constant with other MMOs.
These people that want some ground breaking MMO that puts a totally different spin on everything need to pick a different video game genre.
Adding a twist in a already used talent mechanic dont really changes it
I guess its because Im not very tended to PvE, but I dont care for dungeons, as they always become a simple instrument to get better items to increase the e-peen
As I said its my opinion, dont take it as a offence, seriously

Yeah I agree L2 PvP was amazing. It had a good karma system to cut down on senseless killing of low levels and yet at the same time you never knew when a PvP battle would break out. It didn't have to be some person from another realm or faction. Granted I did love RvR in DAoC as well, but L2 PvP was my favorite.
Also this whole two faction thing that we have in games like WoW, Aion, and now Rift just doesn't apeal to me as much. I wish there was more choices for factions or no factions at all like L2.

looks like the typical 'hype' title that comes around. Lets see what happens come Beta, and release.

Concerns are warranted. However, it is unlikely beta will shed complete light as the beta is simply a few random spot tests where different players get to join over a weekend. An MMORPG's qualities aren't revealed until later in the game, mostly at max level, and after several weeks of playing at that level.

What's even better in a PvE-centric game is the complete absence of PvP (other than consensual duels), that way the core content doesn't get skewed by the complaints of the 10% of the playerbase who want to PvP, and PvP can stay where it belongs - which is in PvP-centric games.
That will sound harsh, but the fact is that PvP is only done to the satisfaction of regular PvP'ers in games that are purely based around it, and when added as more-or-less an afterthought to games that are based around PvE everyone ends up disappointed.
I'm looking forward to the game enormously, having enormous respect for Scott Hartsman and great confidence in his ability to produce a game that sounds increasingly like what EQ2 should have been rather than the dumbed down and heavily neutered version that we have today.

I agree. Id rather all their effort go into making a PVE game, than some of it going to make a PVP mini game. First, the PVP is never good, and second, the PVE suffers.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
A rogue god that goes on a rampage against all of creation, believed to be dead but lived as a necromancer for centuries in Mirkwood only to rise and oppose creation again in the 3rd age.
A race (dwarves) entirely created in secret and therefore left asleep for centuries.
Balrogs made of fire and smoke that single-handedly take over domains and are capable of killing many of Middle Earth's most powerful heroes.
Elves enslaved and forced to cross-breed with goblins to make orcs.
Dwarves, Elves, and Men at war with each other for ages.
Several regions of land controlled by the dead who generally hope that all passersby will join them.
Perhaps by "Middle Earth" you meant, "The Shire." Otherwise you clearly don't know your Middle Earth lore.
I was pleasantly surprised when I went from Apprentice to full 5 star Elite in under 2 months. I was pleasantly surprised again when I went from Elite to just barely Hardcore in 2 weeks. Apprentice, here I come!

If this was a pve only game like some have mentioned, they would lose a sizable portion of their future members (me included) Anyone can play a pve game the real challenge comes from playing against another real player that can offer a challenge.
Anyway excited about the pvp server in this game and cant wait to try it.

Good point I did forget this game is not about PvP first then PvE. It is a PvE game. Still wish more PvP games were 3 faction set-up tho.

I honestly cannot believe I had to explain that.

Lineage 2 had the best PvP ever...period.
