I seem to recall a long time ago that developers realized the software pirates of today turn into the software purchasers of tomorrow.  Most graduate away from piracy to buying retail versions and most who pirate would not purchase the game anyhow.

Not that it make piracy ok or there shouldn't be more that can be done.

Blizzard is not losing any money to this whatsoever. So what if you download it off torrent? If you havent got a keycode you can't play the damn thing anyway. By the way the entire game is shipped on a single dvd that is in a special new format that a lot of people cannot instal with thier older dvd drives.I bought the game on midnight release and when I got home and tried to install it completley fried my dvd drive. Had to run to wal-mart in the middle of the night and buy a new dvd player to complete the instal. Awesome freaking game!

I downloaded the game from torrent on my other computer and went and bought another copy so I could get a new cd-key. Ya think that might have something to do with why so many people are downloading it this way? Maybe?

You can download the entire game right from thier website anyways.. for free.....what's the difference?

Pirated games are released earlier on consoles than on pc. Its just that the majority of console user are morons its not more widespread.

I like the people that claim its just going to scare developers to consoles. I say more power to them if they think consoles are less hacked / unhackable. Both the 360 and PS3 are widely hacked and very easy to hack for that matter. People say you can't play online with a hacked / modded 360. Thats junk anyways as 90% of the hacked PC games you cant player multiplayer / online mode anyways. So what is the big difference.

So I doubt that SC 2 piracy is going to do anything at all. If most developers just move to making console ports then you will just see even more widespread console piracy and its by far alot easier to install a mod and copy a console game then to wait for scene groups to release a hack.

Getting banned from xbox live only matters if... you play online, if you dont care then it doesnt matter if yoru console gets banned.

I personally refuse to pay for xbox live.

Same goes for starcraft, if you only want to play the single player then you wouldnt really care if you cant play online.

Hugely popular PC game StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty has broken a new record, but for all the wrong reasons.

The game has been downloaded over 2.3 million times in three months from Torrent Freak.

At 7.19Gb, it means 15.77 Petabytes have been downloaded, setting a new record for the most data transferred via a Torrent file.

StarCraft II sold three million copies during its first month on sale."

The PC era in gaming is soon to be diminished to the point of no return.. If we scare the big fish away, we'll be left with third party garbage from Valusoft..

I was going to torrent it myself and then I played it at a friend's house. I saw the game was pathetic and hated the fact people will have to buy it in three parts to have the full game. I said "forget it"

As usual...90% of the people who purchase Blizzard Games are the Blizzard fanboys who can't shut up about how "great" every "blizzard" (yes, thats blizzard, with a lower-case b), they own is great. The gaming club I am part of has only four fans of blizzard games and they can't shut up about them while most have heard about WoW and Diablo, but can care less about them.

Piracy Records *laughs*....a few million players "legally" download software from the internet. I say LEGALLY because current laws state its legal to download and execute anything, while illegal to distribute. In torrents, only the torrent manager, tracker and torrent creator are liable. This means person X makes a torrent and hosts it on site Y, and a member labeled as Z from site Y handles the tracker.. X, Y and Z are liable, and no one else.

Since it is LEGAL to download anything, a crime is not being committed. Therefore, regardless public opinion, there is no grounds or claim possible for those downloading.  In fact, to be compared to real pirates....is an insult to every true pirate out there. ^_^

Software Pirate = Doesn't exist. They don't steal, they download (a copy of file is made), to their local directories.

Pirates = they will destroy or capture your ship. Rape your loved ones. Pillage and Plunder your villages, burn you, steal from you and finally murder you. ^_^ (You get the point....)

Torrents aren't killing gaming. It's the people making the games that are killing it. You would of thought in the era (well, atleast I grew up in 28 now) was like the mecca for gaming. You would think they'd have better ideas, but it seems we are going backwards.

Just because there wasn't a super easy source to determine some level of piracy doesn't mean that the large amount of piracy that occured in the past did not exist.
