Please. AC3

Somebody make AC3 please.  Its been over ten years since I have started AC.  Yaraq  cows LOL.   I can still remember my first Virindi kill.  Spending hours upon hourings trying to hunt the hoary mattekar.

Then came AC2.  The graphics were amazing.  The classes/skills were an entirely new thing to me and badass.    A lugian rock thrower? Fuck yes!.  But somewhere down the road Turbine decided to ditch this game.  Why?!?!?!?  Easily the 2nd most fun game I have ever played.  The 1st being AC1.  But come on, this game had sooooo much potential, what happened??

    Well 2 things happened.

1:  The game was released WAY before it was ready.  I played as well, from beta through release.

    2.  WoW happened.  WoW basically took the quest advancement that Turbine pioneered and made it better.

Would be nice if they just rereleased AC1 with all of the lord of the rings graphics. Release it as F2P so people would try it out.  The Character development in AC1 I still  the best ive seen and the PVP was outstanding.  I even like how they did it on PVE servers where you could do a quest and go red, and kill others that have done the same.  I  haven't played this game since the tusker island was introduced and the lvl cap was 126 so I don't know what direction this game has gone. Just as a side note I can't believe I played this game on 56k haha.

I miss AC2 as well, thought it was amazing.

I hope the AC series is not dead and they will do something with original AC / or AC3

Oh my God AC2 was horrible.  I bought it and played it for a little while and it was just like "umm what the heck".  It was nothing like AC1.  I also thought it was kinda weird that you could take any item that drops and just smush it into currency if you dont want it without any tools.

This, of course, is just my opinion.  The graphics was the selling point at the time.  That I do recall.

The races and classes of AC2 are what I miss most.  There is not a mmo that I have seen that remotely comes close to AC2.  There was so much distinction and uniqueness between Humans, Lugians and Tumeroks and they all had there own personality and feel to them.

The funny thing that about AC2 was that it wasn't hardcore enough back then and by today's standards it would be way to much for the casual game.  But I think this game is the perfect blend between Old School and New School MMO's.

My perfect wish for and AC3 would be a mix of all of Turbines games.  I like LoTRO's world feel, DDO's twitch combat, AC2's Races and classes and AC1 for the lore and freedom and loot system.  And most importantly there is no way in hell you should be able to quest to level cap.   Get out there and hunt!

Becareful what you ask for you might end up with AC3, "Wish it never happened".

I don't trust dev.s to make 2s and 3s anymore. I think the dev meetings go somethign like -- ok 1s races on top of wow ... Everyone chimes in , "its great".

I would like to see a crossover title.

Have some major company buy the rights for the asheron's call franchise from turbine and the rights for a horizon's game and come out with:

Asherons call 3 -- the dragons of dereth.

In essence a portal to istaria was opened 50 years ago from dereth.  This had major plusses and minuses.

The blight crossed over to dereth.

The people of dereth started being reborn as dragons and many other races that were never seen before.

Dragon lairs stirred up more olthoi hives.

    etc.

I think they could come up with a good monthly storyline at any rate and being able to fly around dereth would be really neat.

AC had the skill/item system.  Both sides have story.  HZ had races and housing.

I really miss AC2.  Hopefully Turbine is working on some sort of Asherons Call game

  • JennysMindJennysMind Member UncommonPosts: 869

AC2 is still my favorite MMO I've ever played. I did play AC1 and liked it for awhile. What I didn't like about AC1 was that you have to spend 15 minutes buffing yourself and others to play 45 minutes. Plus you had to find all the ingredients. That wasted more time. In AC2, especially at the end, you could cast your buffing spell and automatically everyone in your friendship would receive the same buff. Also what turned me off about AC1 were the macros where you didn't have even be playing in the game to advance. I like playing honestly and that ruined it and why I left and moved on.

AC2 was ahead of its time. It's too bad the game was released before it was ready.

Yeah same here.  AC2 was my first mmo and I remember being so excited to just gather mats and craft.  The community was very close and I remember beind helped the first day I logged on.

I played AC1 and 2 religiously, but I have to say that AC2 was far too different from AC1 for me. It's not that I didn't like AC2 in it's entirety, I thought it was very fun in many ways, but there were elements that clearly removed quite a bit of immersion for me.

AC1 just needs to be revamped into a new game with new graphics and avatar controls w/ underwater content and flight. That said, AC1 will always be the most amazing gaming experience I've ever had. Unique, original, epic . . . it has it all.

On a side-note, AC2 failed for several reasons, such as:

    1. Chat - For the first 6 months chat flat-out didn't work. I remember MONTHS of no /tell, /guild and /anything. You were either in earshot of other characters (making lifestones gathering points) or you didn't group up, that simple. No chat, no multiplayer.

    2. Class Revamp - Archanter nuke anyone? Does anyone remember when the classes were revamped? Yes, if you played, you did. They revamped the classes so many times and with such epic changes they were giving out re-roll privileges left and right. I WAS an archanter and without the ability to cast I pretty much had a gimp archer by the time they were done. Thankfully I saved up my re-rolls, but the fun I was having . . . well . . . my character was ruined.

    3. Vendors - There were none. There was no reason to go to town other than to get quests. Since chat was almost always down, talking to PEOPLE meant going to the local lifestone (if you could find the right one). Need money? Just convert your inventory to gold, it was like having the mythical Midas-touch right in your inventory panel. That was dumb, sorry.

    4. Crafting - Pretty much everything you want to craft could be found better on a mob drop. "Better" yet, all craftable items eventually broke irreversibly anyways. Lastly, gathering the items you needed to make something that MIGHT be worth your time took twice as long as merely questing for something better. Awful.

    5. Animations - If you recall killing your first drudge you noticed one thing for sure, they looked NOTHING like the ones we remembered from AC1. Worst yet, the death animation was a cheesy scream at the sky on their knees, arms up, before over-dramatically falling on their face. Though nothing beats the Banderling death animation. Banderlings threw their club up in the air and it landed on their head before they fell down with a silly half-jump/flail. I had to fight to keep from cancelling my account after I first saw that animation. I wasn't sure if it was AC2 or the Three Stooges MMO with an AC twist.

    6. AC1 Elements - When the game launched there were no Olthoi, no Virindi and absolutely no Shadows (that I can recall). Some were added later, but let's think about this for a moment. Should we add generic elements and forgo AC1's successful originality or just go ahead and follow some form of suit to keep our AC1 fans? Yeah, they blew it.

    7. Empyreans and Drudges as Playable Races - Drudges are stupid and are the most classical of all classical enemies. No one wants to befriend a drudge, they ARE the bad-guy. Empyreans are legendary beings of untold power and they should remain that way. They are 10ft tall and have more power than anyone could ever properly estimate. Playing as an Empyrean on an equal plane as other creatures on Dereth was just a flat-out mistake. The only way an Empyrean could be considered an equal to a Human or Lugian is if they were severely retarded.

    8. Ugly Mounts and terrible implementation - First of all, mounts were a recipe. WTF? Okay, fine they are a recipe, whatever, what do they look like? Ugly, mangled, walking fish . . . okay, okay, they are ugly walking fish, fine, but how are they summoned? Oh, they just poof out from under you and you get 5-30 minutes tops before they just disintegrate. WHAT? C'mon . . . that's, what in the hell . . . FINE, okay, how do you make them? Gold pieces. Okay, what in the living piss is happening here? Getting the mount recipes with the saddles and stuff was pretty cool, but EVERYTHING else was just horrid.

    9. Harvesting - At first it was alright, it got you by (if you were crazy or bored enough to consider crafting), then it was COMPLETELY changed from the ground up. A veritable hot-and-cold treasure hunt and I have to say, I have no idea how telepathically my character was getting new clues when she was getting close.

    10. Character Imbalance - This is easily explained with the following statement: NO class but the Lugian Juggernaut could solo level 48 group mobs. No class could do it other than them (I think there were reports of the Lugian "berserker" class being able to do it with the right setup, but that was much later). Lugian "Mechanics" could defeat level 30-ish group-mob armoradillos and and all while being under the mob's actual level. Other classes didn't stand a chance, period.

    11. The Expansion - There was so much cheating with the eventual expansion it's not even close to funny. Olthoi were eventually integrated and people quickly discovered a cheat. Characters would jump up on each other's shoulders and sign off. The characters on top logged back on in mid air and were completely untouchable to the Olthoi. These "floating" characters could then fire away on the Olthoi and level up MUCH more quickly Turbine questimated. Characters were level 73 before the end of the first week, something that should have taken MONTHS at best. Fail.

Anyways, these were just the big ones. I mean, I loved the skill trees, I loved the armor and the quests. I really liked the Shreth's re-constitution into the game and the storyline was fairly involving, but the above elements weighed me down. Once I was at max level with all of the goods, I just couldn't see myself continuing to play; especially not after my character's class was nuked and I had to try to re-roll as a tank or full-archer.

Anyways, just my 11 cents. On the original topic, if they released an AC3 I'd be all over it, even if it was as bad as AC2, lol. I miss AC1 but the graphics and the character controls (and ever since the addition of the blue people), I just can't get back into it. Someone should pop an original launch-server online for AC1 and just leave it that way; when pyreals had weight, Atlan weapons were astonishing and GSA was a mere myth . . . I was in constant awe ;D

Call BS on you being at the max lvl (150). They dropped out xp balls when the server was being shut down so you could see max lvl. Even with the cheats on the the ortho at the begining. Also a lot of the stuff you say through out the wall of text is wrong. The best gear was made by crafting. So did you really play or just look all this up?

How many delicate flowers have you met in Counterstrike?

I got a case of beer and a chainsaw waiting for me at home after work.

Yes, I thought I would spend a lot of time looking up complete misinformation about a FAIL game, nearly forgotten and years in the trash can, to post in this, on one of a possible billion forums, years later about things that don't matter anymore because I have had no personal involvement in the game what-so-ever. You got me . . . here's your sign.

Actually, nothing I said was wrong, not a bit of it, not in my experience. I re-read my post just to be sure and I vividly remember every single detail. Agree, disagree, I don't care. Gets some tissues, cry it out and then move on to the acceptance stage, I won't be changing anything.

If you need assistance with my "max-level" statement, I will say that I WAS at or near max level for the level cap that was in place when I stopped playing; not when they free-ball'd the servers just before hitting the power switch. I hardly think the technical cap-release before they pressed the big red button counts in any way, shape or form. You disagree and I respect that, even if I don't think it matters in even the most remote sense.

All of these things I wrote were experienced. I even provided my previous statements to AC2 in a very nice "I'm leaving, here's why" e-mail and they took the time two write me back a very detailed letter agreeing with me as well as addressing each issue and thanking me for my level of input and hoping I come back. Since they didn't tell me I was wrong anywhere in their letter (on the contrary, they agreed) . . . I'm pretty sure that what you've said here is . . . well, inessential, to be nice.

I remember chat being down, FACT. I remember having my Archanter nuked, FACT. The game was based off of the concept of not needing towns/vendors, FACT. I remember my guild's top max'd crafters and sites dedicate to AC2 crafting stating how relatively useless it was at some point, FACT. Animations were childish and cartoonish, especially Banderlings and Drudges, FACT. AC1 elements were missing, FACT. Mounts were ugly, universally agreed FACT. Empyreans and Drudges as playable characters, and a fail to me, FACT. Character imbalance, only certain classes able to solo great group mobs, FACT. I just talked to friends from my guild and friends who played, they completely concur, FACT.

I'm not sure what changed afterwards or what game you might be talking about, but these were the case at some point. What changed after my experience, or the experience of my friends, seems not to matter much . . . the game is offline now, and I'd venture that some of the things I mentioned had an involvement, but that's just a guess.

I respect that your experience was different and might be based on what you've seen just before the end of the game. I posted what I thought of the game based on what I and other friends like me had seen. I realize that our opinions and experiences vary, but do yourself a favor, post your experiences and back them up with specifics. If you just disagree without supplying actual information, you're just a Troll. If it acts like a duck and it quacks like a duck . . .

The game was based off of the concept of not needing towns/vendors, FACT (but was changed.  The players actually built all the stores in the world - funny you dont remember that). I remember my guild's top max'd crafters and sites dedicate to AC2 crafting stating how relatively useless it was at some point, FACT. (At some point, yes, but it changed. All "end-level" gear in Ac2, after Craft2.0 was released, was crafted. Turbine actually gave us the numbers and only 1% of drop loot was better than crafted)  Animations were childish and cartoonish, especially Banderlings and Drudges, FACT  (Subjective. I personally love the comical death of the "lesser" races) . AC1 elements were missing, FACT (Somewhat true. Some were missing, and I didn't miss them one bit!) . Mounts were ugly, universally agreed FACT (Subjective...again. I loved my Dragon mount, which wasn't a recipe nor did i cost any gold). Empyreans and Drudges as playable characters, and a fail to me, FACT (a fail to you is probably a fact, but many, not me, loved their Drudge and Empyrean character - FACT!). Character imbalance, only certain classes able to solo great group mobs, FACT (true, but they were not Juggernauts thats for sure. Mostly Tank classes and Pet classes could solo elites better than other classes, while the other classes had their strengths elsewehere, like PvP). I just talked to friends from my guild and friends who played, they completely concur, FACT (they share your subjective view, nothing wrong with that. But most of your information in both your posts consern either problems/bugs/features that was fixed or changed, or simply wrong.)

I'm not sure what changed afterwards or what game you might be talking about, but these were the case at some point. You are correct that it doesn't matter anymore, so why post a long post about what the game did wrong in your opinion at some point in its lifespan? and then state them as fact when you know that you didn't play for the last year or so..? You should look up the term; FACT! image

I respect that your experience was different and might be based on what you've seen just before the end of the game. Bruise is correct about the impossiblity of being near lvl-cap (150) at any point in the game (without XP-eggs). highest lvl on any server was lvl 92, iirc.

He probally ment that he got close to the first lvl cap of 50 and quit. A LOT happened to that game when hero lvl came out.

There are definitely some "Facts" wrong in that evaluation. I remember when we had to collect materials to build the vendor halls, and then, once they were built, I remember making lots of coin listing mats for sale on the consignment vendors. I also remember that after crafting 2.0, the crafted gear was a whole lot better than most random drops (unless you got a lucky combo of great buffs/procs on a drop).

Some is subjective - I loved the playable drudges. Their intro movie was hilarious. They had amusing animations for healing (stooping to grab a bug from the ground and then eating it), and yes, their "platoon" death animation was an obvious homage.

Yes, AC2 had lots and lots of issues, like the broken chat that everyone remembers, but I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the game regardless. I played an invoker, and I didn't care if I couldn't solo group mobs. I joined groups to fight group mobs. That was one of the last games where I regularly grouped and had fun. Fets, Burun Beach, Rustwater Redoubt, Boots runs, dillos and shreth on Linvak, etc.

The game's been offline now longer than it was running, and you can still find people who want it brought back, although the chances of that happening are basically nil.

As for AC3 - I don't see it happening. Turbine is still working on some unrevealed new game that is sucking up most of their dev resources.

  • DolmongDolmong Member Posts: 515

I definitely don't want AC3 because most of the dev including Turbine will just make another linear MMO with WOW quest system and such.

What makes AC and AC2 so fun was the exploration and excitment for killing mobs!  I am pretty sure if AC3 announced Turbine will make it so easy and with level cap as well.  (best known their LOTRO, even though I still love it)

Anyway, all I want is AC with revamp graphics!!!!  Keep the core system, and I really appreciate what they are still doing by keeping AC alive!!!  Just .... KEEP DOING IT and hopefully they will hire few more people to make this a bigger project again!

Well yea I am still dreaming!! =p

Way to early released yes but also with chat system down for months and nothing to do for lvl50 players more and more standing in east gevoth complaining and complaining.

When hero patch came alot of players cameback, but whining keep continuing and it never recover even tho AC2 was a great mmo.

On top of that, a awefull game called WoW came on market witch was the last nail in the coffin for AC2 the life team that patch the game almost every month have try there best but it was all to late, MS mainly screwed AC2 for most part.

I would love an AC 1.5.  Revamp of AC 1 with better graphics.

AC1 was amazing. I still play it from time to time.

The no class "choose from a barrel of skills" setup made replayability amazing. The hunting was so exciting and rewarding. Puzzle dungeons were great. No other MMO made puzzle dungeons which i dont understand.

WoWs succsess killed MMO creativity. There might of been an AC type game by now. but developers chose to take the LAZY copy paste method which is killing the genre.

The way mmo's were: Community, Exploration, Character Development, Conquest.

The way mmo's are now : Cut-Scenes,Cut-Scenes, solo Questing, Cut-Scenes...

Well i settle for re-launch AC2 any day, specially with community back then in that game so far sinds '99 my best experience with ingame community.

And i dont understand Turbine at all. These days games are made free 2 play that alot worse then AC2 and graphics wise can't still even compete with AC2.

Why not bring it back as F2P mmo i think many will play it, it was awesome game and great PVP on Darktide.
