Rift: Planes of Telara: Closed Beta Coming December 3rd

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

The Rift team and Trion Worlds have announced that the next phase of the closed beta will be starting on December 3rd. The closed beta will include several limited events testing specific systems in which players participate and then offer feedback to devs. The first event will offer beta participants a look at the first 20 levels of the game, including Freemarch and the Definant starter area.

If you haven't signed up for closed beta testing yet, look at the front page of MMORPG.com and click the box about midway down the right hand side of the page.

Okay I've heard this a couple of times already? Can you link me a source (not really doubting you you're one of the few non-morons on this site, but I'd like a source just the same).

This is pretty significant news if true, that means not only has Trion won the case against them by Palladium but that the courts have completely overturned Palladium's "Rift" trademark in the venue of video games (Palladium would still obviously hold the Rift trademark in PnP).

Otherwise there's no way in hell they could get away with calling their game just Rift.

Looking forward to tryin this one out!  *crosses fingers*

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

The homepage still has Planes of Telara in the title.

Yes I noticed this as well, which is why for the time being I'm not taking the massively and curse articles at face value.

There has been no change it is Rift: Planes of Telara and like anyone today on the internet we cut it down to something shorter, which is why most just refer to it as Rift.

It will be interesting to see how Everquest 5 does in terms of success.

LOL comments like these make me laugh. Every fantasy MMO is someone copying off of someone else huh?

Yes, EQ, WoW and whoever else created the fantasy MMO genre did you know that? They all had their own orginal unique ideas. So anything else is copying,

Bahahaha give me an effing break .

Check out their website - it is now RIFT on the forum page hence the confusion.  http://forums.riftgame.com/

Well not really but they did start and popularize the particular MMO formula that RIFT is using.

It will be interesting to see if RIFT manages to crawl out of WoWs shadow.

Just checked out their website and the title on the forums now says just RIFT.  http://forums.riftgame.com/

Also, their press release page doesn't mention the name change specifically but it is using the just RIFT title for everything now.  http://trionpress.com/product.asp?s=186
