I will wait before I buy it though.  I'll follow forums and see what the good and bad is before I spend one cent or a micron of my time.  If it looks as though they really did design the 'Open' world like it's actually 'open' instead of Warhammer's version of a bottlenecked crap-fest of a zerg (which continues to fail despite the 'battle' and 'personality' packs), then I will buy it.

I do have my fingers crossed for the game.  But not too crossed.  Since DAoC, I have wiped my backside with too much of my cash and time on games I 'hoped' were going to be even remotely in the ball park.

Thus...  I pray GW2's weakness is not PvP.

Fingers crossed as well, but I think that the game will not miss out on anything important since it is in development much longer than expected. But for now as I saw what they did so far, I'm really happy about it. If they keep up the good work I think the game will be spectacular and worth every single dime. Even if there will be no open pvp world they will probably balance it with something somehow. There's nothing else to do than just sit and wait :D

One man's neutered is another man's raging hard-on.

All PvP is neutered to a lesser or greater extent.

I could argue that true PvP only exists when if a players character gets killed, THEY get killed. Wonder how many fat, sociopathic nerds would be logging-in for some of that sh*t! My guess is zero. Those who are truly HC join the military or a street gang, not Battlenet, Arenanet, Poindexter online or whatever.

Now hardcore PvP - as defined by the typical, emotionally stunted gimps that thrive on it - is just b*llocks. Because for any sane player it's the MMO equivalent of a weedy straight guy walking drunk, naked and lubed-up into a club full of gay rapists and hoping not to wake up the next day with a torn shitter. If you like living on the wrong side of frustration: go for it, but most people will stay well clear for good reason.

And that's why GW2 will have PvP where players fight on a level playing field. It's not hardcore but it is fun and each fight doesn't inevitably leave you feeling like the last segment of the human centipede.

    Weakness?

I'm buying this game basically because of what they're doing FOR pvp.

3 Faction massive contested territory with Server bonus and pride? Check.

Factional controled areas and buildings that can be siezed and will actively change the landscape? Check.

Guild vs Guild with real prizes and a ladder competition? Check.

No gear disparity in competitive guild vs guild from the get go? Check.

You can level only from pvp? Check.

PVE world that is affected for how well your server did in the Mists? Check.

Pvp is what is luring most gamers i would say.

The game is yet to be played, but the pvp ideas behind it seem amazing.

PS- Yes you can pve without the thrill of getting ganked, but you can also just screw that and play exclusively in the Mists, this has been confirmed.

Didn't you just do this topic for TERA as well?

Open World PVP is out the door. Most people don't like it, so most people won't play it, and most companies want to make money. Furthermore, Guild Wars has established itself and its PVP already. Its PvP has always been, and always will be, consensual. It's also very tactical and strategic, and it's going to be exactly the same in GW2, but on a much MUCH large scale thanks to the area known as The Mists.

You like PvP, go to the Mists. You like PvE, stay away from it. Something for everyone. Enjoy.

Nice summary of what to look forward to with the PvP.  I can't wait to hear more details.
