A big marketing scheme that was planned way ahead to feed the kids and get them excited to get in line and buy the game. I'm not so juvenile anymore to fall for this, and spend months talking about how great it's going to be.

I have a feeling that in the end its just going to be another mmo and the disappointment will be filling the site about how their hopes were shattered.

"if only they had done it this way" blah blah.

And i have a question...If the game hasn't came out yet, then how does it have a rating of 8.7 already??

Whose played it to rate it?

If the game is terrible they have a big cushion to keep the rating high. Does this site profit from rating games high or what?

That's not an actual review rating for the game, it's called the "hype-level". The high rating only means that it's one of the most anticipated games on mmorpg.com(GW2 currently has the highest hype-level on mmorpg.com)

Gee you don't have to be so positive about GW2

I think its better if you have a jaded and defeatist attitude about the MMO

     @ OP

Nice article ...I am  one of those people who believes that you should rather let the developers finish the game properly

And if its delayed....then its delayed

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving for the United States and as an American living in Britain I still have to work through the holiday!  Just saying that may be holidays are not all they are cracked up to be?

    No pressure, Arenanet!

I would be willing to bet you have never made something significant with your own hands, your own labour. Doing something right takes time. And to a point, the more time you spend crafting it, the better it will be.

They have been giving information in bits and pieces because they announced the game, and existing fans of the franchise wanted information about it. Just about all game companies do this, and for about the same amount of time. It is nothing special in that regard. What is special is that they are making no bones about the fact they are trying to change a great deal about how MMOs work. They changed the mold a great deal with the first game, and they are changing it again with the new game. What you see are people that are so hyped about a game because they are sick and tired of the same old nonsense. Remember, these are the people that made Blizzard great, and they know what they are doing. And Blizzard was always well-known for "taking their time and getting it right." And until those people left to do Anet, Blizzard always did.

"Gamers will no longer buy the argument that every MMO requires a subscription fee to offset server and bandwidth costs. It's not true — you know it, and they know it." —Jeff Strain, co-founder of ArenaNet, 2007

    WTF? No subscription fee?

(It's also way too awkward of a position to be holding a long-barreled gun/cannon/charrzooka weapon). The Charrs head is even turned to be looking at the creature as well (look at the horns of the Charr).

At least... that's how I see it without the wishful thinking of a massive gun clouding my view...

You ever thought of the notion that he's back-packing a 3-barelled turret? Whilst holding a gun in his other arm maybe?

Nothing in the image remotely looks like that, so no.

I hope ArenaNet finish the game befor summer next year. About the other classes, I think definitely there is some rogue class over there, and another mage-dps class, and and heavy armored class, and maybe, a cleric class with more powerful healing skills. I kno they said that no healing class will be in GW2, but I think people want some class with mora than one or two healing and support skills. Time will show us the truth.

    Carpe Diem

when a game has a TBA date it scares me, just like battlefield 1943 for PC it should be out for a year and no1 has idea wats going on with the game.

so i say COME RIFT =D           (closed beta 3rd Dec.)

GW2 and Rifts are looking good, but don't do the beta, you are just going to spoil the game for when it launches. Done that, been there, the game will seem boring to you and you are playing it in a pre release stage when there are more bugs etc.

Wait till launch, read a review not a preview or a 'first look' then buy, play and enjoy.

Sucks that no new MMORPGs are releasing before the end of the year.. Last year i was seriously depending on SWTOR, GW2, Tera, or Rift to hold me over during the holiday seasons.. None of em are being released tho.. Even tho Rift is holding some open beta tournaments and such so i think there still might be a chance for it to be released before the new year... Or i'am jus way to hopefull i dont know.

Thats hardly surprising, given whats coming on Dec 7th. No one in their right mind wants to go head to head with the 10 ton gorrila that World of Warcraft has become.  I'd add Firefall to my list of games I'm waiting for.

I don't think that is the main problem here. In fact releasing at the same time could even help a game like GW2. That would mean that the sale would have gone slower the first 2 months but I don't think it would sell less in the long run, but the server load for the first 2 months would be slower and more even.

A game like FF XIV would have died if it released at the same date, but if the game is solid it will sell eventually and still get the same number of sold copies after 12 months.

But that is since GW2 have no monthly fees, Rift and TOR is a different matter since they would have lost 30 bucks for each player picking up the game 2 months later.

The real problem is however that most companies finally seems to have learned the lesson from VG,APB, TR, AoC, WAR and FF XIV, wait releasing the game until it is good enough. And none of the game is that good yet so we will have to wait a while for them to become that good.

Blizzard don't release a game until it at least is close to done, and anyone who wants to compete with them must do the same. Anything else is Tabula Rasa styled Suicide.

Having played GW2 at PAX this year I have to say the game looks and feels really good. I went into PAX with no ambition to even look at the game since I didn't really care for the first one. *Hides behing bullet proof glass* After getting roughly 30min with the game however, I changed my mind. The combat was smooth, the graphics were top notch, and creating your back story, strengths, and weaknesses was a blast. After I dedicate some more of my life to WOW with Cat comming out I will drift over to KOTOR and GW2.

They had better have assassins. I mainly play Factions because of the Assassin class.
