So if I buy cata do I have to buy all the other parts of wow since this is a new wow? Cause I sure as hell ain't spending a ton of dough to try it out
ye, but you can get all the other for $20 as of now
Any word on how long those prices will last? And considering that just about every single store is selling the battlechests for 10 bucks on Black Friday, it is obvious a new battlechest will come out with Lich King included.
I find it sort of shocking in a positive way and yet disheartening in another.
TBC always felt to me as a non-contiguous expansion, done in a way that being different didn't affect the main game (aka Classic or Vanilla). WOTLK was sort of the same and although full of eye candy (a positive) and gimmick quests (a negative) it didn't change the main game.
Now here is CATA, and main game is changed. I'm sure the people it targets will love it. I'm sure the dedicated fans will love it. But for me... bleh... I hope they didn't trash my favorite dungeons.
Ken Fisher - Semi retired old fart Network Administrator, now working in Network Security. I don't Forum PVP. If you feel I've attacked you, it was probably by accident. When I don't understand, I ask. Such is not intended as criticism.
The people here that are crying the loudest are the ones still playing. I should know, I was one of em when they hacked down the talents. But you gotta give credit where credit is due: blizzard pulled off a massive undertaking quite well. Whats funny is after all the trash talk on blizz, i still expected a quality game and in the end thats what they are delivering. May not be my style or preference anymore, but its still a very well made game.
Well since I've stopped playing long ago, asked a girlfriend of mine about her beta views and she said well there isn't much freedom anymore. You are restricted to 31 talents in one tree, quests while entertaining are very linearic and you can do the whole expansion in almost 14 hours (80 - 85). Also looks like that everyone will be "questing" the same zones come Cataclysm since Blizzard has only added a total of 5 new zones and dramatically increased level space.
Cataclysm doesn[object Window]t look like a real expansion more like some sort of redoing old content.
What I don[object Window]t get is why is Blizzard destroying former great dungeons such as Maraudon, Blackrock Cavern, Forgottem Temple ?! (look at the Blizz 2010 dungeons and raids panel if you don't know what I'm talking about).
Blizzard should be aware of the following:
faster leveling = less time to deliver quality highend content and people will become bored even faster.
The new Orgrimmar to me looks heavily overpopulated since Blizz is eager reducing the game to just two capital cities (one for horde and one for alliance), which just doesn[object Window]t fit well with the lore. I mean Orcs and Tauren don[object Window]t like each other so why share the same city?!
They should have done what they did with BC and Wotlk creating a seperated [object Window]new Azeroth[object Window] so the people that prefer Classic would still have their game, others would be playing the [object Window]new Azeroth just on different clusters = way better option if you ask me.
but after all only time will tell if its the beginning of the end or a rebirth. For the sake of our genre I[object Window]m hoping its the first one. Always thought Emerald Dream would have been the better option here but anyway.
We need a MMORPG Cataclysm asap, finish the dark age of MMORPGS now!
"Everything you're bitching about is wrong. People don't have the time to invest in corpse runs, impossible zones, or long winded quests. Sometimes, they just want to pop on and play." "Then maybe MMORPGs aren't for you."
Don't know whats up with this "object window" stuff just trying out the new FF beta maybe its because of them..

I've heard of the WoW 2.00 comments before in these forums .To me thats a bit laughable . As other have pointed out it lacks a new graphics engine .It isn't a total resart because it basically does'nt effect Outland or Northrend to such a great extent . It maybe gives the old gameworld a fresh lick of paint and that in itself isn't a bad think . That needed to happen if Blizzard is thinking of releasing a sequal to WoW which they will eventually .Thats proberbly half a decade or so off and most likly will take advantage of the 3d tech that coming in now . Meaning the real sort of 3d with depth an everything and may be on the next gen of consoles that will almost certainly be mmo friendly and 3d capable . Another milestone in WoW history yes but to WoW 2.0 if it was dont you think Blizz would be calling it just that .
Ok wow is having a sale this week only u can get vanilla wow, bc, and lk for 20 dollars. so u wont be spending a ton if u take advantage of this now. They are selling vanilla for 5 dollars, bc for 5 collars and lk for 10.
Wow just got better. The quests will be more linear less go all over to complete this quest stuff. Making leveling easier and more fun.
Say what u will hate on wow all u want some will. The reas on i play wow and 12 million others do is its fun. hate on the graphics on its to easy do what uw ant the truth is u can hate it all u want its a success for alot of reasons u will never understand.
I think Blizzard has finally done it, another dumb talent reset and they removed the few portals in the new lands. Now getting from the old lands to the new lands takes literally forever.
Good thing I did not buy that expansion. I guess I should thank Blizzard for saving me money.
The zone changes are nice, and the talent/class changes are (mostly) nice as well (though, as usual, there are still class balance problems, whch I have no doubt that Blizzard will never actually fix as they have always balanced classes like a drunken hobo balances a bowling ball on the tip of a needle), but It's hardly a "new game." At the end of the day, it still looks and plays largely the same.
Congrats to Blizzard for once again being exceptionally good at what they do, taking the risks and doing what it takes to keep a game like WoW addicting for millions of people.
Now I wonder what the new instance and boss players will have to kill to replace their ONCE AGAIN obsolescent equipment.
As mentioned before, you still need vanilla WoW plus all the expansions just to get to max level. How many new people will actually be buying all that content just for a so called "new WoW experience" ? I don't know if new players will find that feasible at a time like this, especially when they know new mmos are coming soon. Existing players will buy Cataclysm but not so sure about new mmo players or existing mmo players that never played WoW before.
Well, at least for the moment down here in Europe they have a sale for the expansions and the game itself, 5 - 10 euros an expansion.
Some of the comments here are pretty funny; "i dont like TBC, so everybody hates it and you should be able to level to 70 without putting a foot on outland". "im a member of the 5% who regularly raids 5-6 hours 3 times a week, so everything blizz does should be taking me and people like me as the whole focus. We are not many but we are the ones who count" " i like cucumber sandwiches, so we should get cooking recipes based on them, or even a whole new profession perhaps and be allowed to level to 450 Illustrious Grand Cucumbator in it, without putting a foot in Outland (no cucumbers there) and possibly related to high end raiding (Deathwing drops cucumbers when killed)".
So - the next "great" expansion, after 2 years, does what, exactly?
It takes 2 continents of content away from us, and gives us.. *gasp* 2 continents of content! What the hell is wrong with just giving new content, and leaving all the old stuff in place - i.e "EXPANDING" the game, not re-writing it!
Oh, and lets move all the goalposts on the remaining content, cos we decided we want players to "experience the new content to its fullest".
Anyone remember Star Wars Galaxies, and the patch that effectively ended the game for most players? Definite sense of deja-vue here.
Having played the beta for a while, I cancelled my subs and have gone off to play EQ2, where at least there is some consistency.

this isnt the expansion btw. This is a free patch. Expansion has more new content than wotlk.
The only thing I do not understand why so many complain about BC in sense .... "I left for BC ... but returned for WOTLK". I did not left for BC, I loved every bit of it and leveled all my 10 alts each one with same fun. WOTLK was bettter for me, but BC was great expansion of that time.
Anyone stating the actally Cata box 'unlocks' are skipy: Go eat humble pie.
those 7 bullet points on MMO-C are misleading, Blizz have already said and it's been proven those 5 levels aren't '5 levels' they ARE 10-15 in scale, those 'few' zones are HUGE (go on to Youtube and find some flyovers of them), plus theres more endgame content released on day 1 then there was at least with Wrath. Added to that Guild Leveling is a HUGE timesink you WILL be wanting to do, rated BGs are actally removing the lame playerbase that ragequit at the first capure while they stand around 'farming' AT LAST, plus as proven by many a player even the 'only one character i need to raid' playerbase has been converted to actally play alts as the damn game is actally 'fun' to level in again.
Yea most of the 'bulk' is in the 1-60 of the dev work, however Blizzard said back in Blizzcon 09 that this had be planned well before Wrath was even started, 'Cata' itself has been building for a long time now it may feel like Blizzard rushed it out (RIP Path of the titans), but theres one thing that Blizzard did right - Corrected a LOT of missteps made in Wrath and brought it back to a more competitive, yet fun, game to be in.

It's all a matter of time and when you began playing. If you played Wow at the start, there was a chance that the resetting of things was simply too much for you in TBC. It's the same thing with every expansion.
But frankly IF anyone could view it objectively (if one really can because we all have the weight of playing it for years), one can only say that Blizzard always added more and more while deleting time consuming elements.
Everyone speaks about Vanilla WOW, but I bet that if Vanilla launched today it would be rather boring because of no PvP, no dual specs, no personal flying, no achievements, worst class design ever and much too much importance on raid awards as a single focus end game.
My advice has always been: take a break from WOW and play board games or miniatures and then return after X months. The worst one for me is trying to find another fantasy computer game, because then you play to forget and that's very frustrating. Before you know it you become a "hater" and the game simply is too good to be hated to satisfy personal frustration.
There are only a few changes that I really have 'issues' with. I won't say they are minor, but I will say that so far, they aren't enough to make me want to quit.
The last game that I played that try to 'revamp' itself to this extent was SWG. And, yes, we all know what happened there. I think Blizz is more in touch with their customer base than SOE was and I think that's what keeps driving the game forward... in the 'right direction'.
Some will say that WoW is a 'watered down' shell of the game it once was. To an extent, I can see that... and in some areas, I wholeheartedly agree. But, they 'waterdown'/streamline/simplify some areas of the game to help bring in new players and keep the old ones. They actively pursue ways to retain current players... and 95% of the things that we see in game are direct results of feedback and requests.
The other 5% probably comes from Ghostcrawler. Kidding.
As much as I still think the graphics and the limited amount of character customization sucks... the rest of the game is still great and the reworking in Cata helps make it better. I'd still like improvements in the toher areas... we'll see.

Logged into WoW today and was impressed with much of the new zones, but my framerate was literally cut in half.
Stormwind is absolutely gorgeous!
I can't wait until I can play my Worgen Druid!
