Hey All,
Linkrealms (http://www.linkrealms.com) is currently inviting people to beta by invitation. They had not been inviting people for a long time, so if you want to get in you may consider going to their forums and posting your intent to join beta.
The game is kind of like UO but with the ability for players to construct their own "relams" (zones).
Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

Get in on this while you can guys. Linkrealms is a surprisingly great game and most people don't even see it on their radar.
"Mr. Rothstein, your people never will understand... the way it works out here. You're all just our guests. But you act like you're at home. Let me tell you something, partner. You ain't home. But that's where we're gonna send you if it harelips the governor." - Pat Webb
This game looks great! I would really like an invite xD
If this doesn't end up flopping, I may try it out ...if/when open beta comes along. I simply don't have enough interest to beg on their forums in the off chance they might decide i'm "worthy" of testing their game.
I popped a note on their forum. It looks kinds fun so I wanna try and break it :-)
I used to visit this site a lot however in recent years it has become the home of negative forum posts, illogical opinions and tantrums so I visit less often.
Played or Beta'd: UO / DAOC / Horizons / EQ2 / DDO / EVE / Archlord / PirateKingsOnline / Tabula Rasa / LOTRO / AOC / Champions / Darkfall / Mortal Online / DCUO / Rift / STO / SWTOR / TSW
Same here.
Anyone has an invite ?

I applied for an invite just by signing up to their forums and accepted in a few days. It's setup file (which is very very tiny) was already waiting in my hd. I made a setup and jumped into the game. As soon as I logged in a player welcomed me and started to explain me how to use the interface (which is weird but one can get used to it very quickly) and immediately took me to a dungeon [dungeons (at least the one I was in) are not instanced] where I can boost my hp/str by a very interesting dungeon setup while playing with other party members which I did. Later I learned that some of the players of this game are Guides just like the one who welcomed me and took me to the dungeon. A Guide is volunteer who explains game's basics to newcomers and shows 'em around. They also answer questions about the game on world chat. Aside the Guides most of the players are very nice and everytime I asked a question on world chat somebody answered. I believe some of those times a Guide wasn't online. Community is very nice to new people.
What brought me to this game was spell skill animations. Now I can cast a few spells and I love their animations. They are just lovely.
Graphics may look awkward after your AAA title developed MMO but you get used to graphics easily.
The game looks like Ultima Online but with more bright colours.
Game's map is not enormously super duper extra huge but big enough for a sanbox game.
You can create your own realm!
You can have your own house (customized by you) as well as your own sheep, cow, rooster herds and your own vendors!
I never played Ultima Online back in it's days and now I understand what I missed. I was so sick and tired of what to do and where to go everytime I tried to do something in a theme park mmo. Now I do what I like to do-whoever I like to do with-whenever I like to do-with anything I like to do.
Well I applied to beta like month or two ago and got chance to get into that test now.
First impression was kinda odd, the login screen was like 320x240 windowed mode, some temporary-looking login screen etc.
Character creation - tho there were lots of races and appearance setting options, they seemed to make no difference ingame, 3d characters totally blocky, looked like models from Alone in the dark.
Ingame impressions
- Blurry, ugly like hell graphics. I got nothing against 2D if its made right. This is not. Diablo 1 is like 12 years old game and in comparison to Linkrealms, Diablo 1 looks totally high definition.
- Interface was probably designed by someone blind or someone who last has seen a game 20 years ago. There are like 4 bars of different menu icons (I still got no idea what is on the icons, they seem to be few colorful pixels making "some" shapes), hp/mana/wisdom etc bars are on the bottom, acting as hieroglyph wall
- BACKPACK - you click backpack icon, a bag shows up (in window form, u can drag it around gamescreen) with items inside, no icon-grid, just bitmaps put one on another, i could understand it if it was readable, but well again, it isn't
- character information window was somehow ok
- u close all windows not with "esc" not with clicking "X" icon in a corner.... U RIGHTCLICK IT, sorry i couldnt get used to it
- gms/admins whatever were _REALLY_ helpful guiding everyone around telling what to do etc - the guide showed us bank, told how to walk/run/general stuff, then he took us to our first quest
the quest meant us to aggro some bees, lure them into mouths of killer-plants, after doing that a few times, the plants gave fruit, u had to pick it up and u got +stats for each one (u started with 15str and were supposed to get to 40str)... the place isnt instanced, so with that crowd it was nearly impossible (1 fruit each 4-5 minutes, like 15 ppl at one time there)
- didn't get into pvp fights
- targeting anything was hell of a problem
- character attack speed was like 1 slash with sword per 8 sec, don't know if its gonna stay like that until release
- I rly like top-down/isometric and UO-alike camera position, everything would be clear if there were nameplates and graphics wouldn't be so damn low-res (I couldn't tell if it's a wall or floor)
I skipped the flaws of it being beta - like sick lags, bugs every step (got stuck at bank 2 times, couldnt grow my STR stat at quest place) and hell crowded places
I was rly hopeful about that title, well I'm not anymore. The game has no mood, I don't rly like the way quests are designed, I don't like interface, I don't like the graphics, cuz it's ugly like ~~~ (I don't mean its 2D, I've played 2D mmos for like 4 years, I just don't like the art style, if u can even call it art). I'll just wait for Mythos or Torchlight MMO.
