Seeing how Ubi hasn't bastardized the franchise enough with Clash of Heroes and Dark Messiah, it may not be as far-fetched, as it may seem. Think about it.
Ubisoft is one of the few major non-Japanese publishers, without their own MMO.
Might and Magic is the only franchise, under their control, that has enough notoriety and lends itself to making an MMO out of it.
Let's have fun counting ways, how they could fail, shall we? They could...
Set it in the same universe, as all their other MM games, eliminating the need for a brand in the first place.
Not involve Jon Van Caneghem or Paul Romero and Rob King.
Have no references to the lore of New World Computing era, at all, screwing the fans once again.
Make it another WoW clone with "good" and "evil" factions, where races are hardwired to castles from HoMM V-VI, or something.
Have all players lead around a band of henchmen, a-la GW, since they would probably market it as "HoMM-based".
Launch it unfinished, with too many servers and hype.

I hate WoW because it made my plush hamster kill himself, created twin clones of Hitler, punched Superboy Prime in reality, stared my dog down, spoiled my grandmother, assimilated me into the Borg, then made me into a real boy, just to make me a woman again.

wouldn't mind fighting 214 dinosaurs and 87 unicorns at a time though. the loot would be awesome.
Granted this is MMORPG.com, so I guess we can assume that you are talking about an RPG MMO. But since you simply said "MMO", I just wanted to state that technically they DO have an MMO...it is just a browser RTS.
I loved the M&M RPG series a lot. World of Xeen is something unforgettable for me. ^^ Yes it was cheesy and colourful and simple, but I loved it to bits!
Would like to see something based loosely on Might and Magic the RPG series. Or just another M&M single player game, just as well. Aww, how I miss it. Just like Ultima, Wizardry and all those epic RPGs of the past. Or a new Planescape Torment! *sigh*

Not gonna happen. They won't make a good one without Jon., but they won't even try in the first place - they're milking the Heroes franchise, for all it's worth.
And yes, I've been talking about classic CRPG Might and Magic, not HoMM spinoff (which I love to death, but that's another point completely).
