Oblivion Community will choose Rift?

tazarconantazarconan Member Posts: 1,013

I was wondering what game Oblivion fans will go for . Rift  or Gw2?

After some thought i found a few but very essential similarities bettween Oblivion and Rift.

1ST and foremost Oblivion planes opening randomly in places of the world...Like we are telling Rift planes, one of the most unique events in Rift. They open and alter the world players will have to drive creatures back to it and then enter to close the Rift (Oblivion plane).

2nd Class system. Oblivion players will like the Rift's class system which due its souls system the combinations of class type will not be easily counted.Character progression is diferent of course but the result is the same ..loads of class results, and the very own classes seem quite intresting and addictive unlike many good mmorpg's we ve seen so far.

I don't know but we are talking here about a huge community like Oblivion has ,more than 2 milion players worldwide and thats a huge pite of  pie don't u think? I mean are Rift's devs smart or what ? :P

Well.. i hate oblivion which i think is an abomination amongst RPGs... so i really hope RIFT will be better.

PS: Yes, i have completed Oblivion, just because i like the series... but the game sucks.

an abomination amongst RPG's? That's a new one.  Thoroughly enjoyed it myself.

I agree. But be prepared to be flamed. Bethesda is considered godly now.

I wouldn't say godly, nor would I say a flameworthy statement, but undoubtedly on these forums both statements are true.

I wouldn't necessarily say oblivion fans need to choose between the two? I personally intend to play both, however, guild wars always seemed pvpcentric to me and thus I lose interest fairly quickly.

Most forums i read are sick and tired of them pushing out games with the same old buggy outdated engine. Even more so now that the next Elder Scrolls is using the same one again, 'modified'.

As for the OP's take on this, you have it all wrong. There is no huge slice of the pie as the majority of those Oblivion fans will play all sorts of MMO's ranging from Eve to WoW.

As much as I hate to doubt a fellow Templar, I would say that is trolling. Simply because Oblivion, being the most complete game in the series, compared to Morrowind is hardly a statement to be taken seriously. If you said, "Morrowind is better than Oblivion for x, y and z reason" I would be inclined to agree with your logic but you said basically that you liked Morrowind but hated Oblivion even though Oblivion just is... well... more of Morrowind.

In any case I hope Rift is akin to the Elder Scrolls =p

Oblivion is more of an adventure game with an RPG label since there hardly is any "role playing" in there.

I am not going to even go on about being able to become a master of Mages guild without casting a single spell (since one can argue "if you want to role play you could just skip the possibility"), but the whole feel of the game was just "wrong". The trippy candy-like graphics I don't mind as long as they are executed well with a thought in mind, but they were not, giving the game a "we just want to make it as flashy as possible!" feel. They were not mood-setting.

Additionally, the world was barely affected by your actions, other then comments by city guards etc, so there was no feeling of choice "I either go left or right - there is no turning back" - nearly everything was open to you no matter what you did before.

I could go on about more things but rather keep that out of the MMO site. Perhaps last thing to mention would be the waaaayyy overdone scaling where wondering the lands while being more then a half-wit presented barely any change (ie: you could never wander into an area which actually made you think "oh my! these guys are damn tough! maybe i should come back here later when my character has more skills!" or "Heck these guys are tough! if i can defeat them now maybe I can get some sweet loot!"). Unlike Morrowind now EVERYTHING scaled with you which is a big no-no as it kills the feeling of character advancement.

    Morrowind >>> Oblivion

Oblivion was the closest things single-player RPGs have to a sandbox experience.  Fans of that game will choose someething like Darkfall or EVE or Fallen Earth.

I hated Oblivion myself, even though I rather like RPGs and sandbox MMOs.

Uhhhhmmmmm...... Fallout? Fallout is even literally a "sandbox" taking place on a desert :P

Heck! Even Gothic 3 despite it's flaws was better!

What does Oblivion has to do with Rift anyway...because there are portals? If anything I thought Oblivion fans would choose Darkfall...

I would of thought most oblivion players would prefer darkfall aswell

  • sacredfoolsacredfool Member UncommonPosts: 849

Yeah, the amount of PvP in oblivion surely makes it closest ideologically to darkfall. ^.^

Both Morrowind (yup I went there) and Oblivion suck without usermade mods.

I would never play either without using mods. I didn't like vanilla Morrowind, I didn't like vanilla Oblivion. But mods just added SO much playability to those two its crazy. Sucks for the console users, lol.

Take Oblivion...there is a mod that adds a whole DESERT region to the game. Which is my favorite climate. There is one that adds tons of new monsters/npcs to the game...one that fixes the lame scaled leveling. Ones that greatly improve graphics. One that greatly improve ambient sounds...ones that add new items, new quests, new lands...etc

    Same with Morrowind

Its the user made mods that make Morrowind and Oblivion playable.

I agree if only Df's combat were closer to Oblivion.Instead its closer to Morrorwind which sadly its quite worst and way too outdated. Im talking about GW2 and Rift cause those 2 are the most well polished and designed mmorpg's we ve seen including wow itself. If Df wouldnt let u to cap all skills which is ridiculous or had a serious skill decay system so none would be able to me max caped on swords bows and spells at same time i could agree also.

Well yeah oblivion planes and rifts are pretty much the same, character /class system offers quite freedom too.DF excells in some areas and  sucks greately in many others. Thats why Df doesnt have many subs.

There aren't many similarities between Oblivion and Rift, except the game engine, overall art style (well, in part at least) and the rift thing, which however is still a bit different.
