The sad part is there was/is a really REALLY simple solution.

Make sure each account has a minimum of say 25 posts and been registered for at least 2 weeks prior to the start of the giveaway.

    Bam, problem solved.

If you actually payed attention to some of the other ways you could get keys maybe you wouldnt of made yourself look so stupid.

So you are saying that paying for a key is better than a chance to get it for free? Right, here I thought people were accusing MMORPG.com of being greedy, but apparently pay-2-beta is better?  Also while on the topic, Massively gave out keys on a first click first serve basis, they were all gone almost instantly. I'm fully aware of how Trion is handling the beta keys and its a joke.  However, you are entitled to your opinion and I wont call you stupid or an idiot for having it.

First come first serve click basis is still better then what mmorpg.com did because they created an environment where cheaters flourish.   They set it up in such a way that i guarantee 80% of the keys went to bots, or folks who wrote scripts/programs to beat others to the punch.

TenTonHammer was just 1 of many many examples.  There are plenty of other giveaways out there that involved a contest of some sort, or even some of the giveaways on the main site like carving a rift theme pumkin for holloween that made way more sense then what mmorpg.com did.

You need to get your facts checked before you go off on TRION when the only part of this giveaway they were involved in is allowing mmorpg.com some keys to begin with (requested from TRION by mmorpg.com to my knowledge).

I wonder if they shouldn't scrap this whole "Beta" thing, or at least stop calling it beta and call it "preview". A beta is to fix up the game before the release but the last few years it seems to be about marketing instead of making sure they release a good product. That rant is BTW not aimed to Trion but to all MMOs, they seems to be doing the same thing.

Random drawing is probably the way to go. Maybe then we could avoid crazy threads like this one coming into existence.

Trust me, they would be here anyway.

Take for example a couple of Cataclysm key drawings i've been to, people still whined that it wasn't random enough, draws being rigged etc.

I do share my words with those ppls whoever says it isn't the right way to handle out the "important" beta keys.

Personally i had gotten a key long ago, didnt really care. Also i have tried to get one more from this site aswell for my mate, of course i couldnt manage to load the site cuz of mass spamming.

I'm not so sure about the bots, if there were bots they'd have to be very sophisticated because of the time frame they'd have to work in. However, I did see a lot of people who registered just today, perhaps they could have given weight to old timers? I don't know, no easy answers for this kind of situation. The only thing I question is why was the post 20 minutes late? Was it lag, the server, or just late? I know I was there for 3 hours hitting the stupid F5 button so perhaps they can learn from this and implement a better system for next time.

And I completely disagree, my facts are still correct. Trion has been giving keys away to bots for quite a while now via twitter and facebook.  MMORPG.com is just one example of plenty other giveaways that used exactly the same method.

Sure they could have done a contest and highered a part time employee to judge results from thousands of entries over the next month missing half of the beta. However even after that, the cry posts would read that the guy only gave keys to his friends and people who payed him off.  First click First serve is a bad idea and 80% of the people who did get keys from the contest would have never seen it had it been done that way.  They could charge a premium for giving out "free" stuff, because that makes sense.  They could have done a random drawing, which if anyones ever looked at the winners to those, you would likely to assume they are mostly bots as well.

I retrieved keys from a german and some other language site, both using the same exact method MMORPG.com used with no issue. Sites that got 250 keys when they are unlikely to even have 10 readers that know/care about Rift. So ask why Trion only gave MMORPG.com one of the most popular MMO sites 500 keys when proportional to those other sites they should have gotten 100 fold more.

The point is MMORPG.com handled the keys perfectly fine, it is the rabid fanbois that are getting manipulated by Trion who are raging and looking for someone to blame. Obviously to hyped up to believe their developer is at fault.
