Gotta love Everquest...Although creating the bazaar killed alot of the fun out of it for me. I just liked checkin out EC every once in awhile, but I didnt think EQ had to make an entire zone regarding selling and buying items. The game overall though, is still pretty good....in my opinionimage and I hope that I can try out Anarchy Online because I want to try something new, something other than fantasy games.

I like AO...alot actually.  It's a lot of fun to play cuz the game seems so epic.  The enviornments are wonderful, the Omni-Tek cities are HUGE and dark, and the characters just look cool ;)  It has it's problems...I really don't know what there is to do in high game cuz I've never been there.  I still enjoy this game nontheless.  It's no EQ or DAoC, but it's still a lot of fun to play ;)

AO is not a bad game.  Graphics wise it is better than AC but find that there is more to do on AC.  The mission terminal thing is nice in a way but it seems to be like same handfull layouts and all.  I like the community here alot better than AC.    Most people on AC seem to care more about leveling now a days than anything else.  AC in the old days was great.  AO I get another feeling besides people wantihg to hunt for hours and hours and measuring how much experience they are getting an hour.  All in all AO is a fun game nd AC was a fun game back in its day, still can be fun if you find the right people, but they are outnumbered.

Well basically if you enjoy fantasy, elves, ogres, orcs etc.. i would suggest you stay away from Anarchy Online, I used to live for pure fantasy, but then when i started playing Anarchy Online i couldn't get off of it (i am still playing 24/7 if possible), it's an amazing game, very social, nice graphics, beautiful landscapes, a lot of violence and killing, and loads of people to play with. I mean i've known people who have been playing Anarchy Online for many years and then i've known people who have been playin DAoC for half a year and already gotten bored because basically there wasnt enough to do and it was too easy to hit lvl 50, but i guess it all depends on how you look at the game, what kind of person you are and how much you can afford to play per day... but in my opinion i think that every gamer should give Anarchy Online a test run and see how they like it ... it might just be your thing... in my case, the game changed my life ......

EQ has kept me happily playing for 4 years.  I just cant get into the sci fi stuff or I would probably play it since I hear there are some great social aspects to AO.

AO is a great game. I dont see how you can say a game is crap simply because you get bad fps on it. If EVERONE got bad fps, then yes it would be crap, but the game runs great for me, and the graphics are great aswell considering how old the game is.

I found AO to be one of the most fun mmorpgs iv played. The character disign, character costumization, and the classes are all really neat. I like the fact that not all chars are the same. Like on alot of games, if your the same class and race as someone, then you are pretty much stuck in a character mold. but on AO you can be the same class, race, and side as someone else, and be completly different.

Only downers are, some skills STILL dont work properly (like riposte and parry). Also, the missions get boring and repeatative to do, but there are plenty of other things to do besides them, i dont see why people are so bent on doing misions all the time, there are tones of monsters out there to hunt, and there are even more now in shadowlands. Not to mention the new quests in shadowlands.

Its a well made game dispite what alot of people say. Most people are turned off from the start because of its compexity, but if you stick with it a bit youll realize how it being so complex, makes it alot of funf and alot more interesting.

    looks sci fi to me.....

at least it looks totally different from games such as Everquest, which is what I playimage

Thats somewhat the reason i liked AO so much. Takes place way in the future, on another planet even. Humans have been geneticly modified, this creating AO's  "races". There is no magic, magic in AO is basicly nano technology, wich everyone uses, even the fighter classes are dependant on using nanos. And you dont get horses, you get planes, like a yalmaha wich can fly all over.

And how could you not like a lil "leet" saying to you "r u newbie?" in the newbie backyard when u first play this game? image

  • Iceman12321Iceman12321 Member Posts: 992
After hearing what you said, I now really wanna try it out. I mean, the whole thing having a plane would be sweet...I think. whats the "nano technology" like anyways? Is there like a free trial or anything like that either? I gotta try that out, take a break from everquest...image

  • QuaduceQuaduce Member Posts: 59

They are like spells i guess. You get a nano crystal and you need a certain ammount skill in different nano skills 9i think there are 6) to accualy use it. The majority of nano formulas are proffecion specific, so you wont be able to use ones other classes are using. You take this crystal and "use" it and it becomes a program wich goes into your program slot. when you "cast" it it then runs on your NCU. Better nano programs take more NCU to run, so youll constantly need to get more NCU space as you lvl and have to use better nano programs. The more NCU you have, the more buffs, and better buffs you can have running.

You start off w/ a base of 8 NCU. To get more you need better computer literacy skill so you can equip a belt to hold NCU upgrades. The more comp lit you have, the better belts you can wear, wich have more slots, wich can hold more NCU upgrades. Then you get the NCU upgrades, say you get a belt that cna hold 2, and you get 2 ncu upgrades wich have 6 NCU in each, after equiping them all, youll have 20 NCU instead of 8 and be able to run more/better NCU programs.

Sounds really complicated, at first it is, but it accualy is pretty simple.

would you now stick with swg or would you go back to Anarchy Online....how different are they anyways?

  • QuaduceQuaduce Member Posts: 59

SWG has less content than AO. And AO dosnt have much REAL content, like for quests and stuff, but then again, shadowlands is all about quests and has tons fromw hat i hear, but i havent played much of it so far.

You can get a free 7 day trial. this dosnt include shadowlands tho, so you wont be able to go to the shadowlands at all, or use anything thats shadowlands related.

alright, I'll check it out. thanksimage

AO is by far the best MMORPG currently out there. Read the reviews on the game. Nothing else gets as high rating as AO does. Simple as that.

even after this new expansion pack that came out? what was it called, shadow lands or something?

  • WarcriminalWarcriminal Member Posts: 244

The just patched Shadowlands a few days ago so now its has bevome a lot easier to go to the different shadowland planes. That combined with a new head game dev has really made the Shadowland much more full of life and players. A lot of the problems of shadowland have been or are beeing reworked so the old fast paced gameplay from the old Rubi Ka is getting to SL also. Other that that Ill say shadowland is a very beautifully created set of playfields, that will become nessesary to get if you want to advance your character beyound lvl 200.

Now I havent played a lot of different mmorpgs, but Ill tell you this. I have played AO for more that 2 years now and I still logg in virtually every day and find fun and varried gameplay. A lot of my freinds moved on to try SWG. They all came back except one. Oh and the comunity rawks :)

AO sucked from the beginning and it always will suck...nothing can ever make that game playable, I tried Shadowlands when offered a free trial on it and it blew.  Worse MMORPG I have ever or will ever play.  I'm sure all or many of you people will disagree with me but that's your opinion like this is mine so don't try and flame this post.

  • WarcriminalWarcriminal Member Posts: 244

oh well...Ofcourse you are entitled to that opinion. You seem very mad at the game. Could you explain why or what makes the game so sucky?

did you not have the patience to get into the game or was it to complex for you to handle or what?

I very much doubt that you have actually played this game for very long, when you compare the launch with its current state. I for one have no problems recomending this game for players that are into sci-fi and are looking for a nice long term challenge, that will keep you hooked for a very long time.

But ofcourse that just my oppinion. Get the free trial and try it out for yourself

Having played most of the mmmorpg's out there (just quit DAoC after 2 years), I just started AO yesterday and have to say it is alot of fun. Was leveling in the noob field in Jobe and found that most of the people who are playing are so friendly and eager to help out new players. It is definately a change from the fantasy scene, and it is ALOT more fun imo then FFXI, easier to level and find groups. Can't wait to level some more :P

  • QuaduceQuaduce Member Posts: 59

So...multiple good reviews on big name sites aperently mean absolutly nothing then. I see. And yes, i imagine a dev lead them through the place and they played for 2 days and wernt shown any bugs. But wouldnt any other game dev do the same thing?

Shadowlands didnt ruin anything. Who said u were forced to go there in the first place? If you dont like it dont bother going there. And i dont see why anyone wouldnt go there considering that the enemys there give 3x the exp they do on rubi-ka. Not to mention the loot u can get. Id say its well worth the random deaths from insainly high mobs roaming around. Yes it makes things dificult, but i dont think they intended on shadowlands to be a cake walk.

And Yes it takes alot of camping and stuff, wich i hate, so, i dont do it. I play to have fun, im not gonna sit around and do things i dont like if i dont have to, then cry about them and say the game sucks.

  •  There is no "best game".

The question is not which game is the best.

The real question is one only each individuale player can ask theirselves. And it is "What do I like? What am I into?".

It's just like with music. Is Death Metal the best music? Is R&B the best music? Is Rock-Rap the Best music? Is Bachata the Best music? No music is the best. It's about what each individual person likes.

Now, there IS some music that more of the population listens to than other music - more of the world population listens to Salsa than country music. More people in the world listen to Bachata than Death Metal. Does this mean one is better than the other?

More MMORPG gamers play Anarchy Online than Ultima Online, or Asheron's Call. More MMORPG gamers play EQ than AO.

Then there's other things like... how in music there are unsigned bands, little known bands, that are arguably better than more well known bands. The  Red Hot Chilli Peppers during the 5 years they were looking for a record deal. Black Sabbath during the many years they were a Jazz band. (They were good too!).

AO is arguably one of the best ever MMORPG's, even though it doesn't have the same numbers as EQ. DAoC is arguably one of the best Ever MMORPGs.

Last, every single MMORPG has a different core target audiance. DAoC, and EQ are more direct competitors. BUT EQ is a level based game with the goal to kill monsters. DAoC is a level based game with the goal of killing other players.

AO and SWG are more direct competitors. Both are Sci-Fi MMORPGs. To compare AO vs EQ is not really realistic because both have very different core target audiances. Spaceships, land vehicles, machine guns, and implants should not be compared to getting around on a horse, shooting arrows. and drinking potions/casting magic.

  •  Last item that everyone misses:

A successfull CD/Albume is not one that outsells some other artist. It's one that turns a profit. Usually if an albume sells 500,000 copies it can be called a success.

A successfull MMORPG is one that turns a profit. EQ cost 5 million to develope. In 6 months after release it had 50,000 subscribers. It broke even in 2 years when it kept a solid 100,000 subscribers paying their monthly fees which finally covered the 5 million it took to develope, as well as all over head costs. And on top of all that, turn a profit.

One of the most well known MMORPG developers said the avarage and intended shelf life of a MMORPG is 5 years.

To tell if a MMORPG is a success, it must break even aka have a solid 100,000 subscribers during the first 1-2 years after release. This tells a new player that the game is stable, and will be around after they invest time into their character.

This is the definition of a good MMORPG. Not if it outsells EQ, DAoC, SWG, or AO.

[AC2 has 12,000 players. Is it a success? LOLOL ;) ][Compare that to AC which has an avg of 100,000 players. ;)
