SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Masthead Studios has finally revealed that which players have been clamoring for: In-game footage from Earthrise! The video features footage shot during the ongoing beta and presents action PvP and PvE battles and a look at weapons including the Shotgun, Launcher, Assault Rifle, Melee Blades and Flamer. There are also highlights from various locations on Enterra, including the Hatchery, Blasted Region, Autonomy, Arcology I and the Borderlands.

“The Masthead team is thrilled to finally offer more of our fans a window into the Earthrise beta testing environment,” said Atanas Atanasov, producer of Earthrise and director of Masthead Studios.  “Our developers have been working exhaustively to fine-tune all of the game’s features to deliver a uniquely captivating gaming experience, and we are very anxious for all of our fans to see it.”

I posted in another thread on this subject, but here goes anyway.

The combat looks like pretty standard MMO combat. I like the combat overlay graphics though.

He does shoot one guy right out of his clothes! The knives for hands guy runs like a dork.

I'm interested in seeing how this game plays out. Are there any FPS elements to combat, or is it all the standard MMO target oriented? Is combat really all that important to the overall game?

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Thank you Masterhead! You have jump started my  excitement for this game again.

The animations do need work but the game world looks incredible.

im pretty sure it's all twitch based fighting kind of like Fallen Earth and TERA. great video, i like the graphics and scenery. im sure the animations will be cleaned up but i have yet to see a predator or a flamethrower in an MMO. GJ Masthead!

I think this looks quite terribad, but it is in development still so I hope Masthead pulls through and delivers.

In another vid, a dev was saying it is an RPG, not a shooter per se. So, standard MMO targetting.

This is one of the games i was looking forward to.  The level design is nice, but its no SWTOR.

The combat may be twitch based, which I like,  but it looks more Tabula Rasa twitch based to me.  I watched the video, saw what they were doing,  but I don't really KNOW what they were doing.  Were these twitch based skills or is the basic combat twitch based?  It was tough telling what was going on in the combat,  every shot seemed to for a short cooldown period, which I guess is okay,  but for a twitch based game it seems kind of out of place.

(in response to the poster above me)

Thanks for clarifying,  that makes more sense,  but slightly kills my interest.

Graphics: Great, but already fear those who might have med-range systems to play games in this genre.

    Gameworld look: Great

    Character look: Great

Character in gameworld: Doesn't feel attached to the world

Combat: Doesn't really excite me, but then again I have this with most MMORPG's, which is also the reason I don't play MMORPG for it's combat feature's but for everything else a MMORPG "could" offer.

All what I have said is based on my own opinion ;)

For being in the beta stage, it looks good.  Enviroments look interesting, although sparse, No flora or fauna to speak of.  The other issue for me is the lack of the visably different skills and talents.  Otherwise the game is shaping up nicely.

Looks like Fallen Earth. I don't know if that's a good thing or not. I was expecting it to look a lot better, that's for sure.

Honestly I think this game looks horrid. I know it's beta, but good lord those player / npc models are horrid. Movement is terrible, and that knife thing looked like a semi-retarded frog trying to bitchslap someone to death.  I'll stick with firefall.

There is no tab targeting.  I was confused about the lack of aiming reticle as well.  Here's a quick Q&A off of the ER forums with Atanas Atansov:

Me: I just caught the youtube video and I'm kind of confused about targeting.  It appears that there's no default aiming reticle and it looks like they're just pushing an ability and target lock overlay just pops up.

Has manual aiming been removed or something?

Atansov: There is manual aiming, the cursor is not captured by the video software.

Kole:  So they were in free aim mode (the rectile free moving with respect to the camera)? Do you have a camera-reticle lock mode like most fps's?

Atansov: Players can choose between free aim mode and lock mode like most fps's with one key klick.

    Link.

It needs improvement still, but I'm liking what I saw. Lets hope it turns out to be a good sic-fi game as one is needed right now imo.

After watching that I'm not surprised they were holding off on the in-game footage. The game reminds me of Tabula Rasa but looks much worse. Hopefully Masthead can polish it up before launch...but it looks like they have a long way to go.

I said it before, the animations are awful. I know its beta but we all know, not much changes from beta to final version.

Who could have thought that WOW could bring super power like USA to its knees?

I was exited at first for i am waiting for this game... but THIS just sux. Backgrouds great, but some animations looks like crap and the battles...

  • wgc01wgc01 Member UncommonPosts: 241

Looks good, hopefully it will play good as well, I am so wait and these days with any new games, I have 0 hype or expectaions for any of them anymore,  looks like it should hold a nice niche market unless its plagued with problems, will; have to wait and see.. /shrug

    Animations need work.

Oh well, as people say, it's not all about graphics...

Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.

  • mmoguy43mmoguy43 Member UncommonPosts: 2,770

It looks like Tabula Rasa, sure, but the game world is far better and doesn't look nearly as restricting. I can tell they are making progress from their last videos but they either need to really pick it up and get a lot more work done on this or don't hype it too much.

I was skeptcal when I heard about this initially and still am but that doesn't mean I'll never give it a chance.

  • TazlorTazlor Member UncommonPosts: 864

i heard about this game but never really looked into it.  it needs work but the combat looked pretty good.  is it going to be a sandbox?

  • TerranahTerranah Member UncommonPosts: 3,575

I think it looks pretty good.  I like the UI elements...not too flashy with bright colors which is more confusing to my eye in the heat of battle.  Combat and graphics look good enough, but hard to really say without actually playing the game.  It will all boil down to gameplay with this game because I don't see any other element as the hook.  That is to say, nothing in particular stands out which could make for a very mediocre reception when the game launches.

It has a sandbox economy and the major factions look like players, not NPCs. Not sure about PvP whether it is zone specific or just anywhere.
