8.98 rating?

PoliceQCPoliceQC Member UncommonPosts: 40

Is it over-rated due to being newly released or is this game really the best game of all-time for you guys?

I tried out the 4 day trial for 2.95 and have to say I wasted the cash, but that is my opinion. I never really played Eve either. Only way to find out if t is worth the 8.98 rating is to give it a try.

If you compare it to what's been released recently...it well deserves the 8.98. It works and as another poster said, delivers what was promised.

That said, whether they keep a high rating is really up to them. They have plans for the future and if they continue the same way they started I don't see the rating dropping at all.

it deliverers what it said would deliver. the devs are online in chat everyday. the gameplay is basic but works. they got a long way to go but have started out far better then most mmo's that came out in resent years for that they get rewarded. its not a game for everyone.

its design its based on eve no denial of it, they chanced some core rules make some things more user friendly and some they gota look into again. again for what it is its well done.

If I remember correctly, it is due how voting calculations work. It will settle down with time.

Vanguard was tops for about  2 weeks.

Not saying the game is bad or anything, but you gotta let the dust settle down for a bit to get a more accurate rating...

for 10 bucks its worth EVERY penny. Even if you only play it for 2 weeks.

thats why the ratings are so good. the value for this game is incredible.

I like it better than EvE.

The rating for 'Sound' seems a little high. The sound is pretty basic. 'Role-Playing' might be a little high too since it's entirely optional. You're playing humans remotely piloting robots so really so aside from the fact that the robots are pixels you're truly remotely piloting robots. Graphics might be a bit high too. The graphic quality is excellent, but the content is a little bland.

Everything else seems pretty spot on to me. The devs are not only on their own site and in game, they are on sites they don't own (like mmorpg.com) giving information and advice. Service seems pretty accurate to me.

If there was a "Delivered What Was Promised" category, they'd get a 10.

In short, the Pros far outweight the Cons. A high score is to be expected.

    * edit * It's a sad commentary on the state of MMO games today that anything not released rates better than anything released.

Its better than Eve.  Adding battle mechs on land is just too good.  Being in space, in Eve, was soooo boring.  The controls, pricing, and customer service is the best I've ever seen.

This...it will move steadily downward in the coming weeks and eventually stabalize at a lower figure.

There also was a very heavy campaign by the players to come here specificly and artificially pad the rating. Take that number with a HUGE grain of salt.

Im enjoying Perpetuum more than anything i have played since vanilla SWG.

Really enjoying this now, however the future is what im most excited about, player built structures and robot part targeting!

The HYPE meter here is now meaningless. The only people that add their vote to it are the fanbois' of a game. Therefore all rating of games on this site are skewed/wacked out.

Seriously if a game looks interesting, check it out, read private reviews of the game your interested in (forget the reviews on this site as the staff have been "assimilated" by the beancounters and marketing geeks long ago), ...

and finally try the game yourself and make up your own mind.

Does anyone actually come to this site for the ratings?  Those ratings mean about as much as the stars under your name....

Eh, in what way is this game better than EvE? The only thing that this game has over EvE is that it's Mechs and not spaceships.

Its WASD movement instead of point and click

Combat is affected by LOS, destructible objects, mountains etc instead of just range

Skill training doesnt require micromanagement to keep skills going, you just "buy" them when you want to with your accumulated EP.

          I'm convinced.

Just thought I'd add that the point/double-click to move is an available option. Sometimes I use WASD, sometimes I click both mouse buttons down and steer and sometimes I double-click a spot and auto-run there. Depends on how much attention I can devote to the game.

    ``Hi everyone,

It recently came to our attention that the hype ratings for Perpetuum Online were unfairly manipulated. As a resutl, we have gone ahead and temporarily disabled hype ratings for the game until December 8, 2010.

We undestand that some of you disagree with the outcome of this situation and we appreciate your feedback. However, the Perpetuum Online forums are for discussion of the game itself, not MMORPG.com policy, and so we ask that you do not create any new threads regarding this situation.``

Sooo. . the hype might be off. . having said that.  I just checked out the page.  The game is free and you just pay the $10 sub.  Worth taking a look at.  I wasn`t horribly impressed during beta and enjoyed EVE a lot more but I will take a look for that price.

The ep continuing to accumulate even when you forget about the game for a while and then being able to spend it when you decide what you want to do with it is a huge improvement over EvE imo.

I would also add two other things.

First, they do blueprints different. Dont have an original tech 2 blue print for something? Hate being held hostage by those old corps that do have them? In Perp, if you can find it or buy it, you can reverse engineer it. The only other thing you need is a decoder of the minimum level. Those decoders drop off NPC bots so they are not hard to get ahold of and are all over the markets. Best of all, this gives combat oriented PvE players, the ratters of this game, a good source of income in the industrial economy. You can also research memory kernals that drop from npc bots that allow you to make items that you cant' find an "example" for. It is a great system. It may take a while to build up your list of things you can make but you can do it, and without the arbitrary limits.

Second, the three inner islands are strictly pve and the 3 outer islands are strictly pvp. The eve fans will cry about the three inner islands being carebear but I think this is a good move for two reasons. Most people want to learn a game in peace. Getting canflipped your first day may be a valuable learning experience but it is one that has probably cost EvE a hell of a lot of subs. Also, some people simply are carebears, so what let them play the game the way they want. Finally, when you or your corp get pounded into the ground, it is good to have a place to retreat too and rebuild. This will allow more small companies to find a solid footing before the jump into the deep end.

Over all, it really is simply EVE with Mechs. That much is obvious. There are a number of very good design changes that they have made. However, I am not sure it is fair to say that it is better than EVE. A person might like it better, I know I do but that is different from it BEING better. EVE is definitely bigger and has a larger feature set. EVE also has 7 years of refinements that add a lot to the game. I am sure Perp will get them with time, but they do take time. Things like being able to check your inventory remotely. Or being able to stack and unstack items in a field container. Very small missing UI features really but that is something I can live with.

It is also a shame that there is not a free trial but free trials usually get the hell abused out of them by spammers so I don't mind that they don't have that.  They don't charge an upfront fee for the game so spending a few bucks on the trial is not so bad. If you don't like it, think of it as a donation to an Indy game developer.

If you hated EVE in concept you will probably not like this game either. If you liked EVE but didn't like certain things about it then this game may turn out to be a great find.

PS this last weekend, with the game just a week old, there was a 150 bot battle royale over one of the bases. It was really cool. There were disconnects and lagging, especially if your graphics were turned up but over all it when off pretty nicely for a first time. How many companies can claim that kind of success in mass pvp, this early in release? How many companies can pull that off with 11 developers/designers 2 execs and no other support staff?

    All die, so die well.

The only thing I'll add to that is if you want to produce the higher tier items (named) you can only reverse engineer a prototype, which requires knowledge gained from kernals of NPC bots.

It takes a long time to get knowledge of higher tier items because you learn them in series (T1 then T2 ect) but anyone can get it if they have the time and/or money.  There is certainly nothing keeping you from producing everything in the game just like the biggest corps do.

    Of 8.6? :-)

I believe this game is going to keep a fairly high rating mostly because the developer did not over hype the game and delivered on what they promised. People aren't getting shocked and dismayed at what the game gives them compared to what was promised.

It's a complete game and if you are into sandboxes there's a good chance you'll like this game. It's not for everyone, but if somebody doesn't like the game, it's not because the developers did a cr@ppy job. For most of the games (every single MMO I've purchased in the past year) people stopped playing the games because the developers did a cr@ppy job.

I don't know what the stable rating will be, but I'd guess close to 8, 7 at the lowest. But that's just a guess on my part, based on little or not information.
