I hate to point out the one flaw in your line of reasoning, but the results that the media shares with people are completely different than the results researchers publish. See, in order for a researcher to publish something in reputable journal, they include their research methods and all of their results in their papers (including any statistics or qualitative data that are important). In fact, most research papers follow the same format (Intro to problem, inclusion and exclusion criteria, methods, results, and finally implications and conclusions).
The studies that people cite, more often than not, go through a peer-review process where other researchers review their research and results (checking the math or qualitative analysis).
Do yourself a favor and read an actual research study before you draw conclusions about "research". You have to understand the process, not just the results that are spoonfed to you by the media (who often draws the wrong conclusions about research)

Really, I'd like to see the p-value of this supposed research, and any other statistical data. Besides, one sample of 1,000 is way too small to come up with a statistically significant result for something like this (unless, of course, the conclusion drawn was that the average age of first sexual encounter was 17-18 at that particular college with a specific SES category, etc).

- What game,and what your doing in the game.
