Nolan jokes about Inception MMORPG

theinvadertheinvader Member UncommonPosts: 240

In a recent IGN article Christopher Nolan was quoted to have confirmed that a video game set in the universe of Inception is in the works. In the same article is a quote of him saying that it would make the perfect setting for an MMO.

This could be a really interesting concept and part of me hopes that an MMO is what they're working on. But the question is, how would an Inception MMO work? Would it be a sandbox or a themepark? How would players interact within dreams? Would is be a rival to the upcoming The Secret World with its contemporary setting? Discuss!

I only read "confirming "he's collaborating on the previously only-rumoured video game version of the movie"

And: "At the moment, the only direction we're channeling that is by developing a video game set in the world."

Where is the quote of it being a MMORPG?

Other then that, to be honost there's so much or actually too much that could done with it's IP translating to a video game.

Oook, looks like some Nazi PR guy has got IGN to remove that quote! Anyhow it never said they were actually making an MMO, only that the IP would be good for an MMO setting.

EDIT: The quote definitely was there. If you read the comments section there's people discussing it.

No, you go into a video game, and you think you're in the real world, but really you're playing a game. And in THAT game, you go into the real world, but in that real world, you play a video game, and then...

Wait. Is that damn top still spinning? Damnit! Someone kick me. Or I need to be thrown off a bridge into icey water. Or something.

Ok, let's start over. You're in the real world, but, you think you're in a video game...

Aren't we already playing. Are you sure?

This is captures just how awesome it could really be.

Of course, when was the last time na IP lived up to it's potential? :)

I suppose everyone would have their own instance (your dream), by a stretch it could be a sandbox.

I guess we would have classes for the diverse number of functions available. I can see some areas for distributing points to improve like your dream self-defense army, map creation skills, direct combat.

They would have a lot of freedom to define how the real world and combat works.

Guild vs Guild combat could take place in a multiple-layer dream, people losing and falling in the limbo, etc.

Anyway, the point is moot as there won't be a MMO (they removed the lines mentioning the possibility, so either it means they want to fully make sure there's no false expectations). And if there will be, considering they don't pull a Cryptic on us (developing pseudo-MMOs in 1~2 years), it shouldn't be out for the next 5 years.

I don't think there's enough technology to make the MMO good enough to be comparable to the IP (the same pretty much applies to all IPs). Heck, even for a single-player (with no multi-player) I am now curious about this game, it should be pretty challenging to be done good.
