Decided to grab it and give it a shot, played just about every other mmo, and am definitely a hardcore sandbox fan so looking forward to seeing what MO will offer. Liked some of the replies in the 'why are you playing' thread so thanks to anyone that posted in there.
State of the game was always a concern, and the direction SV may take with it after launch, but i think they are certainly going in the right direction now and are showing promise so going to give them some support
Got a few hours download yet but the launchers running like lightning, been maxed out for the last 2 hours and the first stage patch install was quick and painless.
See you all ingame sometime this evening

They might have fun. Especially considering they are walking into it with their eyes open.
Imagine what it was like for all those early adopters. For them it was like running to your attic to escape zombies, only to fall halfway through the floor and getting eaten from the feet up by the zombies you were running from. Exactly like that, but replace the zombies with other players.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
This is funny.
But I hope OP does have fun and I do think he's doing it with the right attitude. If you are an MMO afficionado, then try the game and have the experience. Why not?
And I hope SV is moving in the right direction and the MO comes together and thrives. I am all in favor or more sandbox games making it. If MO pans out, it will be a good one.
Welcome to MO! MO is a very special MMO and is fun to play. Some might regret the buy some think it's a very good MMO even thou it got a few bugs. For me it has been well invested money. MO is improving.
Now, expect some content patches the next coming weeks. Except bug fixing, Star Vault is now focusing on improving the newbie experience, PvE and Social. It will be some very interesting times ahead. They said we can expect a monster pack. They have also started to add NPCs telling lore and guidance for new players ingame.
Good to see that you ignore those trolls that spend several hours here on the MO forum every day bashing MO even thou they say they don't like MO.
Congrats on saving your brain cell's due to gaming instead of drinking it! And welcome!
Yeah, haven't had any problems with speed/patcher at all now, maxing out as well! C you in game!
So if these magical patches they have been promising for a year don't arrive in the next month, can we all finally agree SV will say anything to get people to subscribe to their game?
All the things you mentioned were promised months ago, repeatedly. Patches still break things, repeatedly. They say bugs are fixed when they are not, repeatedly. You get the idea.
The "lore" you mention is an NPC extolling the virtues of some players who killed a monster that didn't even fight back due to SV's inability to code AI. It leads to nothing and is of zero interest to any sane person.
You are right in one respect though, MO is indeed a very ... special ... MMO
Please return later and tell about your experience with the game
I am sitting on the fence to buy the game, however there is so many (trolls) saying that it's not worth it - and the Mortal Online IRC channel says otherwise.
Welcome to the game, Ex0dUs101.
Since you've likely read the recent review, you probably have a good idea of what to expect from the game.

Congratulations Ex0dUs101.
I know you'll enjoy the game. I suggest joining a guild because MMO's are always more fun in groups.

I finally bought the game - and heck I'm having fun already!
Sure I've was murdered, twice, within the first five minutes - and I still love the game!
More to come later!
hah definition of hardcore may need to be redefined for you, first enter the game and see how different it is
don't worry about getting killed in the beginning, your days will come in a w eek or so Talk with people you encounter, and ask questions, there'll be people willing to help, it was the case while I was playing.
PS: I am planning to return soon also
Doesn't the new fledgling flag last for 4 hours? How did you get murdered?
Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!
If you do a criminal act yourself then your yellow shield is gone, like if you steal or attack others.
This is exactly right. While I certainly have some issues with MO, it is one of the most social games I have played. It just makes sense to talk to people around you. This helps with immersion as well as getting to know the game and, maybe, not getting killed
Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!
Does it deflag if you attack someone? (I have no idea, so just asking)
Maybe he was pushed while harvesting, mistook it as an attack, tried to defend himself, lost the flag, then died.

For some reason the yellow flag doesn't always work for new players.
I tried talking with a few and they said it could be bugged at times - but heck, I don't care about the yellow flag
I joined a training guild (TaMa), which teaches newbies such as me - so the start couldn't get much better
And people are indeed social and friendly in the game, however also very scared for being killed all the time.. This I had some fun with last night, running around saying "buh" behind players who was farming in the night time - making them jump and draw their weapon :b
However I haven't touched fighting, so I have that yet to come
the yellow flag only works on your first new character, i think a few of the new players werent clear on this and thats why they said it doesnt always work. But if you make a few chars realise you want to start again. if you delete both and make another single new char he/she will recieve the yellow flag once more.
there are 2 types of mmo, imitators and innovaters.
Thanks for the welcomes
Just reporting back on how its going. Certainly picked a bad day to start, with a 14 hour unexpected downtime on my first day, starting an hour after i made my character, but these things happen in all mmo's, and I did have a lot of fun on IRC with the community instead! Im quite a patient man and didnt let this first day bother me to much, hopefully not a sign of things to come
Its not an easy game to get to grips with, probably the most disorientating new player experience ive ever had, even more so than Darkfall my last major sandbox, but the community is surprisingly excellent, and there has been no shortage of people offering their time to help and make sure im ok as im on my travels. I should mention ive done a lot of reading, guides and wiki's and maps, without that im not sure where id be right now, so if youre not proactive in seeking information for yourself you may have problems.
Skilling up is nicely implemented, it doesnt feel grindy, i do feel like im being rewarded well for my time, and i love the fact that any mistakes i may make i can unlearn later if i wish, very nice feature. The skill system is quite deep and well thought out, a little confusing at first but once you work out what you want to do with your character it all just falls into place and makes good sense. Specializing your character into the area you want to do is important, which im liking as well, was never a fan of having to play as a hybrid so heavily in other sandboxes to be competitive.
General feel of the game has been quite smooth so far, havent run into any bugs personally, have heard others with some problems but nothing that sounds major, im hanging around IRC 8-10 hours a day and the IRC does seem to be the hub of the community which is nice. Performance client side is good on an average system (e6600, ati 5770, 4gb ram) even with dx10 enabled which i found surprising. There has been a little server side lag in combat at times, but that seems to have cleared up now, not sure if it was the server issues early in the weekend causing that. There were several unexpected server reboots on Saturday, but each time it was back up within a couple of minutes, not a big deal to me, im a techy so i know how it goes, but it may frustrate some.
First impressions have been good, im enjoying the time im spending in there and im getting my moneys worth. This next week or so i expect ill be starting to look at guilds, working on my combat skills some more, and then pushing into pvp in the next week after that, the way things are going im going to have a combat ready warrior in a couple of weeks
Will post back again next week i expect after some more time ingame.
Thanks for the honest review.
Yes, the server hicups this weekend were unfortunate. This was almost certainly what was causing any lag in combat. It seems like they smoothed things over today though. Maybe we'll see each other in game? Good luck.

Good to hear you feel it is worth the money and are having a great time!
Once again, welcome and I hope too see you in game!
I am one of those who embraced the game, bought it and gained B block Beta access, but lack of content and huge amount of bugs drove me away.
That and the fact that I`m somewhat of a casual player due to my job. I was almost frightened by the lack of direction, but hey, that's what sandbox is about. I have learned my lesson in EVE - after the fourth attempt to like it, I finally 'got it' and I`m enjoying myself. I think the most important thing is to set a goal for yourself. I like piracy so in my fourth attempt I went that route. And WOW, having a goal in a sandbox environment makes a huge difference.
Will definitely apply this in MO. I like playing rangers / scouts in Single-player RPGs. So I'll consider developing my character for just such a role. After the holidays are over and family duties checked, will definitely resub and give it another go.
Cheers!
Better to be crazy, provided you know what sane is...
not sure how social you can call a game with 100-200 online players....
I suppose it's very social, as every one knows everyone else due to the lack of subscribers
It will get extremely social soon I imagine, as more people leave. Lot of old fans have lost their "faith" in SV.
Actually the playerbase has been on the rise for several patches now. In reality this game is very cliquey. Most communications take place over individual guilds vent or mumble voice chat.
