I was suprised that my PC would slide show on high rez. What do I need?
I have what I thought was a decent machine:
P4 @ 3GHZ
1.5 G RAM w/ 800MHZ FSB
GEFORCE 6800 GT 256 PCIe16
In order to play, I have to run the game on performance, and change some minor settings like flora/water/and other things. I want to run EQ2 on ULTRA!.

...........sigh
Ultra shmultra, you can set the settings VERY high with that system, stop complaining..Or are you playign on 1600x1200 or something. Set it around 1200. Shadows to average, and all on besides last two. Textures on high. pixel shading distance between 50 and 100. See what works for you. Also number of detailed characters is imporant,.. especially when in cities. It's true even with that system you can't expect to have shadows and lights rendered on the fly like that and having 10 high res models running around in a large town. Anyway I only have an athlon xp 2000, geforce 4 4200 and 1024 ram and I can run the game at a very pretty level, and sometimes have shadows on(mostly not in town) There a lot of settings that will slow perf. but are hardly noticable ingame.
gf gt overcklocked higher than ultra
is not enough..u can play but..is so friggin slow
i use it just to make screen shots)
shadows works
and they look not that bad
i play a healer..and need to switch to balance anyway if im in team
I run at High Quality settings (with the Bloom feature off-it looks awful).
I get 15-30 fps most of the time.
Here are my specs:
3.6 ghz P4 Pci-express
1gb RAM
ATI X800XT 256 mb Pci-express
XP Pro-SP2
CAT. 4.12
DX 9.0c
I never have any slowdowns, hiccups, lockups, etc.
As far as shadows goes, I leave the Environmental Shadows off, but the Character shadows on. I believe you get a small fps boost if you turn shadows off too.
Also....get an ATI card. Despite the fact that nvidia has their logo splashed on every game box does not mean that it is better to have an nvidia card. For this game in particular, 95% of the people on the EQ2 forums having problems with their vid cards are nvidia owners (especially 6800 owners). Make sure all your drivers are up to date, defrag your hard drive--these small things help boost performance.
When I go on a raid, or when there's LOTS of people around I switch to Balanced mode. Extreme Quality is not possible at the moment, but once the 512mb vid cards come out it should be.
Seriously consider getting an ATI card, I'm pretty sure it will help. Also, set it to High Quality and then downsize from there to your liking.

P4 3.0ghz

ATI radeon 9600xt 128mb
Asus p4p800 mobo
Audigily(i think) 2 ZS
Whats the highest setting i can run eq2 at with this? Fairly smoothe.
Dont worry about BlkDragon- hes what we call a "ATI fanboy". Yes, there seems to be a 6800 problem with EQ2, however my ATI(9700) card has many troubles in different games(Blitzkrieg, other OpenGL games). The 6800 GT is best deal right now, it kills the x800 pro at 100-150 dollars less than the 6800 U/x800 xt. Your problem is that you don't have a AMD64
EQ2 Qeynos Guild- http://www.imperium-arcanum.com
Well, you can't run it on the best settings considering the hardware doesn't even exist yet. The minimum requirments (as stated by SOE) to run EQ2 at max is a vid card with at least 512MB RAM. So when ATI has prob an x950 or NVidia has a 7800 (if that's the standard names they are sticking with ), then you can run at max settings

well, form what i have read, with a FX-55 and a overclocked 6800 Ultra and like 2-3gb of ram you can run EQ 2 on highest settings at a decent resolution, ewll, for what i run on, 1024x768, it should be fine, and thats the last thing i am waiting for for my computer, my new FX-55, i got it, but it had bent pins and was missing 2 pins, so, i sent it back, will be gettign refund mondasy,t hen odering 1 retail!!!! HA HA HA! buya, lol, anyways, yea, you need like higher then top of the linbe, and yes the computers do excit, how doyo think they made the freaking game? duh, it would just cost a whole sh*t load of $$$$$ and you would have to get down and dirty with a few certin people probly
Well 15 fps is a slowdown for me:)
Anyways, I run the game at 1280x1024 on balanced settings, though I need to set it back to high performance if I have 4 or more in my group and lots of mobs. All settings are in their default mode.
P4 3.6
6800Gt
1GB Ram
Well the general agreement is if u got a system that can run EQ2 don't bother to upgrade if you are looking for highest setting.
I dunno if anyone has tried to SLI 2 6800 pci-e cards yet and ran this game. However,a guy tried 2 6600 SLI and could not run it on maximum without slide show effect.
The X800xt seems to perform better then the 6800ultra but alas it too is short of the mark .
So guess we will just wait and see what the next generation cards have to offer
With one gig of DDR400 Kingston, a Radeon 9800 Pro, and a Pent IIII clocked to 3.6 I get around 50-60 with above average setting and with particles and textures set up the roof. I don't know what is wrong with your "super PC" but maybe you are expecting too much from a game with settings that no hardware will be able to reach for a year or even two.
