So my main is ill/rad controller and he is great fun but I need another one to play as well, to my suprised I learned I do not enjoy blasters much anymore when I first played long ago I did enjoy it but I have tried energy/energy, ele/ele both fairly high then ice/ele to 16 and learned I hate not having any real migitation, I usually enjoy being squishy but not anymore, maybe if I could safely fight from a distance.
I have also tried a few defenders, dark/dark it was ok I like my controller better not really into damage over time, tried kin/sonic ugh sonic not my thing, and a little burned out on casting sb all the time. I was thinking of maybe making a ta/archery but I really want something with a little more damage then my ill/rad while remaining atleast somewhat versatile.
I would play a warshade but I am not ready to yet, I am worried it might ruin what fun I can have with other characters.
Also I would like something pure ranged, I thought maybe picking a melee type to but not usually into them I have tried ma and claws before and couldnt get into them.
Any suggestions is greatly appreciated thanks all.

Well the problem here is that I cannot afford going rogue right now as I said above I cannot get it yet, my issue with blasters is I just about tried them all and just couldnt get into it, energy because of kb I like to constantly attack, maybe not all the time but a decent amount of time, I like to change tactics as the group needs to, then I enjoy quick thinking kind of characters.
I'm not sure what you mean that a Warshade would "ruin what fun I can have with other characters." It's not like a Warshade is "easy mode" if that's what you were thinking. Warshades are more about choosing modes. You get a blaster mode which is very squishy, but also a tank mode which isn't at all. So it requires switching based on the situation. (And often between fights.) That may or may not appeal to you.
The character most like a blaster, but less squishy, is a high level blaster. Especially with the extra power options just opened up by inherent fitness, you can take combat jumping, tough, weave, aid self, and an epic armor. That's some pretty good mitigation and we haven't gotten to IO set bonuses yet. (Or you can just take Rise of the Phoenix and who cares if they die. )
More importantly than that for a blaster is choosing your build and your fight to win before they can really respond. The best mitigation is a dead enemy. Now that can get redundant ... Firebreath, Fireball, Fire Sword Circle the Lieutenants and it's clear. But it's pretty safe. And you pick your battles to either take down big even spawns fast or fight fewer higher level by holding/stunning first.
But you said beyond blaster, and that's fine. Defenders probably wouldn't have the damage you want. Dark Miasma would really be a good choice for what you want: self heal, debuff enemy resistance for extra damage dealing, and a couple different tools to play with. (Plus a pet.) If the only thing you didn't like about it was DoTs, then don't pair it with Dark Blast. Dark/Psi certainly has fans. Dark/anything would be fine.
If you're willing to go redside a Corrupter is pretty much by definition a Defender that focuses more on damage. You'd have to play villain for a while but once you do get Going Rogue you can switch them over. Make sure you pick one that debuffs or self-buffs so you're not just a "buff bot" for others. You could also build a Widow that's range-focused, although that almost is "easy mode."
I would recommend an Illusion controller, but you already have one. Gravity controllers get a fair number of attacks too, but you'll need to do it the Controller way meaning you get containment first.
The last choice would be a Dominator, again redside. They get a mix of ranged and melee attacks, and you could probably skip most of the melee ones if that wasn't how you wanted to fight. (At least eventually, you might need them for your chain at first.) It should at minimum be better damage than your average controller.
So hopefully something in there works for you. Or maybe something you have will play differently at a higher level. Or maybe your tastes are just changing. I used to love Controllers most, but at some point my favorite characters became Blasters. I guess sometimes you just have to figure out the attitude your character wants you to have and then see if you can't get into it.

It has been long time since I have played CoH but I will give you my 2 cents on your question. I think you might try another controller, illusion is not really controllish more like a mastermind style character so I think any other primary will give you something new, fire, ice or plant might be nice.
Another option is to try a blastroller(blaster with controller complex), ice is pretty nice as blaster secondary, the ice slick is a lot of fun. If you want to go for maximum control ice/ice I guess if not any primary will have decent damage. Warning: I am not minmaxing, so the character should be viable but of course there should be optimal combinations.
If you pick up Going Rogue, I highly recommend you try the Dual Pistols blaster. It's probably the most fun I've had with the blaster AT since the game was released.
Beyond that, it depends on what you're looking for. Ill/rad are a dime for three dozen, so I'd definitely recommend something less popular. Do you like tanking? The newew shield and willpower sets are interesting, and there's several new choices in pretty much all ATs. Maybe an archery defender?
i will say i love playing my force field/radiation defender mainly because buff+debuff and your always doing something... although next time i get some game time for it i really need to redo the build now that those fitness powers are inherent bleh
i also have a WP/Energymelee tank hes pretty fun my defender is 50 and my tank is 47 or something
