To make it easiest, here's what I'm looking for:

  • A solid, at least mostly polished game, with a bearable interface.

  • Smooth combat.

  • Decent graphics.

  • Doesn't matter if it's F2P, Item Shop, P2P, etc.

  • Would prefer more quest-based, less grinding, but doesn't matter too much.

Pretty vague, but I figure this way there'd be more suggestions.

Games I've played for an extended period of time, already:

  • World of Warcraft

  • Aion

  • Everquest 2

Any other suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

I'm playing Lotro and having a blast. Its a great game for those that enjoy pve and quests

Perfect world international seemed pretty polished when I started to play. You can try it out at pwi.perfectworld.com

It DOES have an item shop but is pretty good for a F2P overall, i suggest you give it a try.

Expanding on what I said above it does have over 50 million registered users and 6 million online usually, pretty good for F2P.

Id probably recommend LOTRO, quite good for PVE/Quests. Graphics are decent, community is relatively good. I never found it that incredibly buggy either.

lord of the rings online would be good for you i think.  i would say give runes of magic a shot but the game is just to buggy to recommend.

Looks like several people beat me to it but just to reinforce the point: Lord of the Rings Online.

    LOTRO, duly noted. ;)

    Any others?

Vindictus if you want a nice change of pace for a bit.

    - Action combat.

    - Decent story.

    - Pretty well done for a free-to-play.

    - Dungeon crawler (if you are into that).

Anyway, just a suggestion. It may or maynot be up your alley - or what you're looking for. Good luck finding something!

I'm watching this thread for suggestions too :> My husband is still into WoW and so we bought Catatonic - I mean Snoreagasm - I mean Cataclysm, but I can't bring myself to log in anymore when he's not on to play with.

Have you ever done Guild Wars? I played a long time ago, only the original. Was thinking of trying it again since I am very interested in GW2 from what I have read so far. It's been years since I played it so it would feel new. Might consider that and they have a free trial.

Let me know what you come up with and end up trying. I was curious about Mortal Online as well, it gets so much forum drama it could be entertaining based on that alone.

Was going to say Guild Wars, but to be honest, the only things I've heard from it is via other players. I've never played the thing myself, so there. LOTRO is a quest-based themepark, so try that one.

To the guy who said Perfect World, NO NO NO NO NO. It's the very pinnacle of F2P grindfests: either you love to grind (then PWI is heaven for you) and more grinding or you do NOT touch that game with a 10 feet titanium pole. (Also, what's with the stats? Do you love PRs that much?)

What didn't you like about EQ2 and Wow? Why aren't you still playing one of them? Need to know this info to make accurate suggestions.

Lotro is best for you. If you are D&D fan, D&D Online isn't bad either.

If you want something different, but still polished and quest-based, Wizard 101 is worth a try.

I'd suggest Guild Wars also (LOTRs already noted) gets a lot of praise and am tempted to play it also... It's B2P and has a couple of extras/expansions. Here's some trailers on steam: Guild Wars: Eye of the North (expansion)

Also if you like something very different but small population could try Ryzom (21-day free trial)

It's not that I disliked anything about WoW, but I've played it for almost five years, haha. Just a wee bit bored with it, at this point.

As for EQ2, haven't played it anywhere near as long, and I do quite like it, but I'm just looking for something new. I'm trying to avoid just giving in and returning to things I've played before. That's how I ended up stuck on Wow for so long.

I have actually played Guild Wars, and have all but one Xpac. I like Guild Wars, but it wasn't a long-term game for me. I do occasionally return to it, since it's F2P after initial purchase, which is nice. I'm eagerly awaiting GW2!

I also forgot to add in my list (my apologies, since I've gotten so many recommendations for it), that I have played LOTRO. For maybe, half a year? Before it went F2P. Nothing wrong with it, but as I said before about EQ2, I'm just looking for other than 'the usuals' (WoW, EQ2, LOTRO, GW, Aion).

Sorry if I'm being difficult! Blame it on the faulty attention span. :P
