Back in Mortal Online again - My really great experience in words!

wmada2kwmada2k Member UncommonPosts: 193

So, I was first playing during beta and stopped because of IRL matters. Time passes by, and a mail drops down in my inbox: 7 days added for customer that already bought the game!

So, I deleted all old stuff on my computer, downloading the installer from www.mortalonline.com and it begins patching. Something is done (in the right direction) and it is all better since beta. The installer took me no time at all to download, and the patcher is maxed out the whole time ahd the patching procedure was a nice break to go out for lunch!

So, I create a new char to enter Fabernum (the npc's at the starting location scared me a bit, but when I saw it was npc's and no ganking reds (where are they those days) and interacted with the npc's. Since I have played before I just head off to the town instead. Those npc's will be awesome to get the new players up and running, and understand the game better imo. Some more of that and it will be really good!

First off, farming at pig farm, back selling - back to farm etc. After a while I met a decent guy who gave me a better sword, and now the money is rolling in a bit quicker =) After some time () I have enough money and attr/skills to buy me a decent horse, armor and sword. Packed up with bandages I am out hunting further out. I meet some nice guys out in the wilderness warning me for 2 reds running and looking for blues to gank and I stick with them for a while. I am lucky I did, after 10 mins the 2 reds comes back and are riding towards us very quickly. The guys I friended up with were gathering up for the fight, and I joined them (a bit gently behind them since I was new and did not want to lose my precious gear image ).

They attacked us 2 vs 5 (me included) and they killed one of us pretty quick. When we (they ;o)) got one red down to 20% health I thought I had to back them up and I did! Running in swinging as a mad man I hit him as well, and even though I did not do too much damage we manage to kill one of them! This results the last red to start pull back, and when we got his life down to 50% he decides to give up and he returns to where they came from! We decided to split the loot (which I am grateful for) and continue farming! After some time we are all full and are heading back. I am going to Fabernum and they are headed to Meduli so after some riding we say goodbye and I thank them for the night farming/killing red(s)!

While riding home the last part Ihad to take some detours since I did not want to interact with other players. Even if they where blue I did not want to take the chance since I was fully stocked with loot. Of course the detours got me out of course and I got lost! I got the compass and knew I should go somewhat north and after some time I managed to enter Fabernum again and sell what I did not want, and bank the rest!

Since I last played there have been loads of updates and you can really tell my just entering the world! The graphics is really good in comparison, and the trees/bushes are great looking and alive!

I did not experience any desync or lag at all so in performance I give it a 10+!

The AI is a lot better. Maybe one creature out of 5-6 was behaving a bit strange, but I did not even think about it so obviously it did not bother me at all!

The small pvp experience I had was great. It all looked good and smooth, and the few hits I did felt good. So the combat overall felt really good. The combat can probably be tweaked into infinity, but it was really good now!

Decent amount of players on (did not play prime time), and not as many reds ganking everyone as before, so it seems it has been balanced out a bit!

To sum it up, my first time back since beta has certainly been an exciting and fun experience, and I look forward to playing more!

Let's see what will be my mission in-game today, hopefully I will have time to report back here! See you in-game!

This shows that the definition of great experience can vary hugely from person to person...

If MO was the first computer game i ever started in my entire life i would see it as a great experience..but because i have dozens of other experiences to compare MO to...i can say the oposite.

  • wmada2kwmada2k Member UncommonPosts: 193

Aye, it does indeed! All the million WoW players cannot be wrong, but I still think that is about the worst game ever created. So yeah, the opinions are different thank god!

There are an amazing number of posts from people from Sweden who enjoy the game (proportionally speaking).  I wonder if it's is a cultural thing...I used to notice this on the official forums as well (before they got rid of the poster location data).

Anyhow.. glad you are having fun.

By the way I don't like WoW. I am against instancing, tho I did enjoy WoW in the first 3 months. Game I love the most is EverQuest 1 from 1999 to 2003, and I am still looking for a game with so much depth. I gave MO quite a decent chance, like many others. Played Beta from january to release and played a whole month after.

I'm sorry but I'm part of a player breed who's been playing games since 1989 and who's seen it all. Technology is ever improving, back in the ages of the NES, you would buy a game strictly on how it looked on the box, there was no internet to know if it was good or not. Technology was poor and you would often play things that were absolute shit.

Nowadays there are just so many platform supports to develop games, so many engines, ideas etc...Lots of stuff to inspire yourself from.

As I grew older, I became more picky, my expectations are higher. I'm not here to give games chances, if after playing 6 months, if after playing beta, game studio hasn't learned from their mistakes and delivers such an unprofessional piece of work then its over.

Lots of other studios have delivered a great work and many have now become f2p. Why should I give MO a chance and not those other games which are free and better developped? I say LOTRO doesn't get the credit it diserves. its an awesome game its quite bug free, graphics are gorgeous, gameplay is nice, and it has a lot of RP fluff to it.

If players had all their time to play MMO's and could play 3 or 4 MMO"s at a time, and if players had all rich dads like Henrik, they could prolly give MO another chance. But truth is most of the players consider they've already wasted enough time and money on a game that didn't deliver while full of promises and good ideas.

Lets cut out all the baiting. If you feel someone is breaking our RoC, report the user and moderators will decide what action to take from there. Do not take it upon yourself to issue any sort of justice upon someone else. This leads to more baiting and retaliation. None of it is necessary and none of it contributes to the discussion of a thread. Now, stay on topic please.

Too bad SV isnt offering a free trial so other might experience MO without risking their cash.

Actually I heard that one is coming quite soon.  I have heard 2 versions though.   The first is that it will be just 7 open days for anyone.  The second is that it will be limited to "Trial Codes" which will be given to subscribers.

I think we will find out soon since there are only 3 weeks left in the quarter and Henrick promised a 25% bump in subs to his investors.

great to hear you had such fun.

i also had some good times in the 4 months i'v played this game( quit shortly after epic patch). there was just nothing to do and too many reaccuring bugs.

i really do hope that this game survives. if it does AND all the bugs are finaly take care once and for all i will most definately think of coming back to take a look. unfortunately i will always look at SV with a weary eye since they have proven themselves to be untrustworthy time and time again.

if anything at least MO brakes free of the WoW mold in such a profound way which makes everyone take notice and maybe hope for a revolutionary turn arround of the genre. perhaps 10 year from now MO will be known as the game that started the next gen mmos.

  • deathshrouddeathshroud Member Posts: 1,366

glad you had some fun in MO, it has improved quite abit. especially over that awful open beta. Im sure the devs will be planning some form of free trial, but they did right with delaying it because they obviously want mo to be ready for the free tiral and any time before now would have only been a fail attempt to get new subs. Game is looking better and better and once the game is ready the free trial will happen probably just after christmas.

if u want some help ingame then feel free to private message me since i am aronud fabernum area :)

there are 2 types of mmo, imitators and innovaters.

So, my journey continued a bit yesterday!

I got myself a Steppe horse, and am geared up with my precious armor and sword, heading out in the wilderness looking for some wisents to farm!

After some travel (alt-tabbing to look at a map) I finally found Cave Camp and the visent spawn!! Sweet I thought! I unmount my horse to attack the first wisent! I hit him and he runs away.. This will be easy money I thought! But when he turns around and counter attack - well, they sure do some damage. After a couple of visents killed, struggling with one I hear some sound behind me. I turn around and are terrified of what I see. A red killing my horse.. Since I know I will stand no chance, I try to run in the opposite direction and hopefully I can stay alive during this.

Unfortunately it did not take long before he was breathing down my neck and start hitting me. I draw my sword to at least try to die an honorable death, but it was all in vain. I die very quick and that's that!

Ending up looking for a priest and heading back to Fabernum by foot took me some time, but at least I am back safe!

Even though I died a quick death, losing all my gear, damn it was a rush! Ok, I would rather be the PK hunting another guy down, but now I got hunted down... And my heartbeat was rising fast. Last time I can remember I had this feeling was in old school UO when you were hunted down by PK's when you your inventory full of nice loot. What a feeling! Now this is gaming!!! image

A short one today, lets see what the weekend offers!

Hah, that's the spirit. Try grouping with blues (be 2-3 people), so that a random red cannot kill you guys

  • wmada2kwmada2k Member UncommonPosts: 193

Yeah, I have learnt that during the weekend haha. Running around alone, when not maxxed out, might be risky lol!

Even though it is fun, it is too expensive to lose all your gear once a day image

Hopefully I have some time to play today and report back!

    [mod edit]

    @wmada2k

You can always get yourself the beginner gear that loosing will not cost you much like Bone Tissue/Fullgrain Leather armor and Bone Tissue weapon(unless its a bow). Its nothing exceptional, but will do you good in PvE because in PvP you need at least scale armor and cuprum weapon. Just ask crafters to make you shit from junk so you will not regret loosing it :)

I am glad you are enjoying the game.  I did as well.  There just wasn't enough to keep me playing month after month.  I hope they solve this issue soon.

I do have imagination but I don't mind a few toys to play with either.  I hope they add some more elements to the game before you lose that fresh feeling.  My first post after getting into the game for a few days sounded the same.  Most peoples did.  The game is a decent base and, of course, has potential.  Unfortunately, thinking about how fun it would be to do this or that only lasted me a couple of months.  I think this coming week is the "content" patch. . at least some new critters.

The problem is that there is no progress in the game.  The territory control, crafting etc.  just do not offer anything to aim for past a few weeks (months maybe).  They made it easy to raise stats and skills and a grind for books which goes against everything they talked about.  Whatever happened to "you will learn skills by using them"  If you want to do X. . just start doing it?  I mean you have to buy a book to learn "jumping".  They just don't seem to have that clear vision they used to.  I suppose they have had a lot of technical issues (database issue causing them to use books) etc. that have made them change things but that is my biggest problem really.

I don't mind the state of the game at the moment.  It is the state of the game tomorrow, a month and a year from now that I am concerned about.  It is still one of the few options out there and worth playing - SV just needs to pull a party out of their arse pretty soon or it will be too late.

One of the oldest defenders (fanbois?) of the game has even commented on the population being the games largest problems.  It will increase with the next patch as people come back to check out the changes, , but his happened after both Epic patches as well. . and then dwindled again.  People are not going to keep paying to check out changes forever.  These are fans of the game like myself . . eventually you start to feel stupid for buying into the hype again.

Bah I sound like an old man talking about how badly I was treated or something.  I am glad I bought the game and can certainly spare $15 a month to support it. . . . I just can't be bothered to log in any more.  . . . but of course I will once I hear how "great" the next patch is.

You checked your FPS? did it run better now than launch?

Well, I guess that everything is possible but I have a feeling that whatever nextgen will be it will be different.

I think it would be more likely that World of darkness online will get that honor if indeed next gen will be a sandbox. GW2 is another possibility, it also do things it's own way. Bethesda is working on a MMO as well and they are good with mixing both genres at least for single player games.

Whatever next gen is I think it is hard to recognize it from the start, people will like you said look back a couple of years and with that perspective be able to tell.

But it is great that they actually is fixing up the game, Eve was a mess at launch as well and if MO ever can get half of Eves numbers it should be a great thing for it.

Great story OP. Like someone else said I'd try the game if it had some kind of free trial. I'm afraid to shell out cash for something I may not enjoy.

So can I assume someone's paying you to post criticisms?  Or is that just a convenient way to marginalize people who don't agree with your views?

Ok, due to real life matters I have not been able to play so much. But some hours here and then!

As mentioned in another thread, I missed the Risar invasion, and the reds attacking all the ones killing Risars which I'm a bit mad off image

Anyway, I played around some the other day, mainly killing Wisents on the plains beyond Kranesh. It was dark when I finally got there and to my happiness I was alone there at arrival! After killing half of the Wisents I was hunting one down, and I was stupid enough to run after him down in the water without thinking of it. Then I obviously started to drown since I have no swimming skills and I had "too" much in my inventory. Later on I was dead, drowning in my own stupidity and eagerness.

Well, running around dead finding a priest was not that hard. Well, it took too long anyway for my loot to still be there, so I run to Kranesh. After talking to a nice guy, I pay him the little silver I got, and gets a new sword, leggings, chest and shoulder pads I run out to the wisents again! This time I was not alone, but the guy was blue and really nice, so we decided to hunt both of us, and to help out if any reds would appear (like we would have a change lol).

But when all Wisents were dead, we said goodbye and I was heading back to Fabernum. When passing the mountain foot of Kranesh I see three guys fighting on the other side of the lake. I get up on the mountain to hide since I do not want to loose my loot again! I spy on the guys fighting, and I quickly see that it is two guys running after one single man, and when he is trying to flee they kill him off! Feeling like a coward, hiding in the mountain, and thinking "how smart is he running around in the wilderness himself like that?", it came up to my mind that I am doing the exact same lol. Not good at all!

When the two guys were running off, I waited for another two mins tu run the plains between Kranesh and Fabernum and we aiming on the mountains again to run home amongst 8not beeing stupid and run around alone image).

I make it alive to Fabernum this time, but the feeling that running into a ambush and getting killed is always there! This is one thing that makes it really enjoyable for me, not knowing if you will need to fight for your life or not. Pure excitement and your heart beats hard!

So, this time I managed not to be killed by anyone but myself. Losing some gear, but getting back with loot so I could buy some more gear and badages!

I think I will try archery out now also and need to calculate my points on what I can afford! I also need a horse for faster travel, that's a fact!   image

So, not too much of a story today, but me trying to survive the wilderness of Nave!
