Your favourite MMO + Hackers =

You can find hacks for pretty much any MMO these days. It's very tempting to download them, too. When I start playing a new MMO, I try to play legit for as long as I can before temptation strikes. Eventually, most MMOs come to standstill where you have to grind or walk for god-knows-how-long. When I do start with the hacks, it's never to gain an advantage over players. I think of them as a patch you can download that is not from the game company.

I'd like to hear some opinions if there are any.

I dont understand mindset of hackers.  It reminds me of kids I knew when I was young who would use cheat codes for single player games so they could get past certain difficult spots.  I always wondered why you would buy a game then porceed to completly ruin the challenge by hacking or uses cheats.  For me the fun in games is the challenge, not mindlessly killing helpless mobs with infinate health and ammo.

Personally I hate hackers, they have ruined every FPS game to come out in the last 5 years for me.

  • swashedswashed Member Posts: 26

Yep! Using cheats in an FPS directly puts other players at a major disadvantage. I believe when people do this, it's to spite the game company. If you agree to a game's EULA and ToS, you are bound by their rules. Some game companies take this power and abuse it. So what do you do? Breach the agreement you made and make the game as unpleasant as possible for their customers. One hacker might piss off 15 players in a match, but when everyone is hacking, the game loses players FAST.

Only program I have used lately is ISboxer to multibox in certain games

I did cheat in EQ back in the day pre PoP. A program called EQwindows had the abillity to check for mobs in a zone and steer you towards it. Made getting that pegasus cloak and lodizal belt + shield easier to farm. That was back in 99. A couple of years ago i played Wizard101 and used cheatengine to speedhack it because i got fed up with fedex quests that made you run back and fourth back and fourth.

I don't really care much about cheating or bug exploiting in PvE. I bought the game and pay my fee too. I'll play how i see fit regardless of TOS. I won't bot or sell items for cash or cheat in PvP that's my only moral limit.

As for FPS games. Never have and never will use aimbots or wallhacks. Then again i don't play FPS simply because the genre has been completely ruined by those programs

I am pretty much on this boat. When I buy a game, I play it usually on a harder setting and play it how it was meant to be played once through and then put it back on the shelf. Most people go through their shelves a lot faster than I do.

Darkfall is FPS in an MMORPG and used to have all sorts of problems . .. not from aimbot because of the way combat works, it doesnt really help as much as changing tactics quickly so player skill beats an aimbot it seems like, but there were speed hacks, wall hacks, flying hacks, all sorts of hacks until seemingly out of nowhere, there were mass bans and I have not seen or even heard of a single hack since. I am so glad that they did that even though it meant less of a paycheck for them for a couple months. They got rid of a lot of players at once which was a pretty big portion of the community. Clans fell apart and the politics started changing. A lot of people quit right after the mass bans because they did not want to reroll and go through the grind again. Anyways, for being FPS and MMORPG it is at the moment almost completely hack free. I don't care if my opponent tries to use an aimbot since this is Darkfall it wont really matter with there type of combat compared to other more simple point and shoot games.

Honestly man, don't hack online games. Seriously, it's just sad. I really can't express with words how depressing it is. I hope you get caught and you get banned from the Internet for the rest of your life.

If the game you're playing reaches that point and you don't like it, then you should quit and play some other game instead.  Or you could take the preventative approach and seek out the games that don't degenerate into painful grinding (e.g., Guild Wars) and play those games in the first place.

I've played every MMO worth trying. I've cheated in about half of them. Some games aren't worth the time to register. These game companies take 2-3 ideas, and build a game on them. If I told Nexon I could make a game for them that has zombies, cars for mounts, and a vast array of weapons, I'd be approved and I'd get to work. What comes after that is 10 models of each mob, 3 models of each weapon type, and 2 car models, one blue and one gold. You get to level 10 and you have everything. So what comes next? You can pay me  $300 and I'll give you items that will give you a chance to upgrade your weapons, or you can download this bot that will get you the same thing overnight.

tl;dr Item Mall + bad customer service = what did you think was going to happen?

So you are saying you only hack in games you do not like?

Just because you do not like it does not mean others don't and you are spoiling the fun for them if you think about it.

To me, only gold farmers, cowards, and griefers use hacks in an MMO.  They aren't hard. There is no game over unless the server is shut down.  Learn some damned patience and L2P. Griefers who use hacks are heart worms to a game, they'll eventually kill it.

I only cheat for parts that are too boring to be featured in a game. I think for some companies, being able to walk across the entire map without the game crashing is a success for them. I dread having to hold "W" for 30 minutes, or monitor turning left or right at certain crossroads while auto-walking.

Check out this example. Here is Knight Online. It's world feels so empty sometimes, and it's only fun when you are level 60+. I'm using this as an example because this game is infamous for hackers. Let's say this game is incredible for endgame, but you dont want to sit through the terrible 59 first levels. You don't want to quit, but staying up until 3 a.m. to top off a tenth of a percent has you second-guessing if it's really worth it. I cheated in this game years ago, but only after lvl 62(if that helps my argument).

If a person wishes to use cheat codes/hacks in a SPG that is their choice IMO. It concerns me when to comes to a game in which all involved are supposed to follow rules.

So in honor of my 1k post. I would like to send a huge FU to gold buyers/hackers. You folks ruin online gaming for others.

Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.

    congrats :D

I would just like to add, there are different tiers to hackers. There are ones like me, who just do it to get over a speed bump at a poorly designed part of an MMO(dont goof yourselves, you know when grinding shouldnt be happening). And then there are these punks:

This is a screenshot of a botter's testimonial. He skipped the entire game and made tons of money. This example is for maplestory, another infamous hacking game.

There is no grey area. There is no situation where cheats/hacks become justifiable. To me it seems like you are looking for people's approval for what you are doing.

Just stop. Don't use hacks. If you are playing a video game which makes you feel obligated to use hacks, then stop playing that game immediately and find a different game. Or better yet, find an entirely new hobby which requires patience and skill and does not allow you to cheat.

I used to fuss at people who cheat at games.  But there is no point to it.  They are so deep down a well of fail they can't even hear your voice.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

    That was cold :(

But it's so damn true. A lot of good games are ruined because most people who cheat don't know when to stop. That and item malls. I can't stress how much these have ruined the genre.(more than hackers >:| )

p.s. I'm not seeking approval. I'm not trying to justify hacking. Save your flaming for people who deserve it. It isn't worth getting heated over.

If a game is that bad, then don't play it.  It really isn't that complicated.

I.. yeah... that's where I take issue with your post, even if I've never used said cheating devices.

What happens (often) for me when I end up in a crappy MMO and lots of time to waste is that I end up grinding anyways, for the heck of it, just because I've ended up in a good knot of players. I know this sounds really stupid, but the only times I've even thought about grabbing a "bot" is because I'm utterly sick of the gameplay but want to stay for friends.

That said, I've never done it.

It's not that easy for me. I like to obsess over games. Quitting is a milestone I hate to reach. I give every game, good or bad, the benefit of the doubt. Sometimes I find something amazing about a terrible game, but it all depends on what I personally enjoy.

As long as their is anonymity there will be hackers. I remember going to lans and i don't remember anyone ever hacking. Lots of good players who kicked my arse and we'd all laugh about it but no hacking.

The only way to combat it is to remove anonymity somehow. Imagine if hacking in one online game meant you were banned from playing ANY online game. Wouldn't have to even be permanent just a few months. Tie is into a social network site so when you get caught it automatically sends out a message to all your friends saying your a cheat. Bet we'd see a lot less hackers.

If you like it, then don't complain that it's so awful that you have to cheat at it.  You're trying to have it both ways.  That is wholly unreasonable.

Like a universal game account :O. You may be onto something!

If a game is only good when you have endgame skills, I wouldn't mind having my computer grind boars for me. If a game is fun all the way through, hacking won't even cross my mind. I'm registered on most hacking forums but I'm not all about hacking. Botting lets you have your cake, and you can eat it since your hands are free! :D

The reason people don't understand cheating ,is the ME factor. They forget this si the developers game and all participants are or should be treated equal/Once you cheat, you ruin the game for others that don't cheat. When people make an excuse for cheating or changes,it is usually only the ME factor, they do not take into consideration the game for others.

If ANY person feels they NEED to cheat, then the game is either too hard for you ,or plain and simple, you do not belong in that type of game. The ONLY reasons to playing a game is to have fun and or challenge, cheating woudl only be acceptable if you gave your self a disadvantage to give it more challenge.

An example of cheating i personally witnessed that really caused an uproar, was when players were allowed to delevel and still wear a christmas hat that gave the plaeyrs a HUGE advantage in the level 15 pvp arena. The stats were +20 to every category,so you can see at level 15 that is a ridiculous advantage. The game only planned gear changes on the leveling up,never thought about an item that was already worn, the nthe player drops a level,so peopel were trying to die to cheat the system.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

I find that a lot of my acquaintances who exploit a lot of holes in MMOs we played together do it because the method already exists, but only to paying members.

For example, there's an "electron remote" that is an upgraded version of a remote control you can use to automate battles. It's provided free of charge in the original version of the game, but when it was localized, the new publisher decided to separate the premium features from the normal features, and gave us, the free players, the dumbed down version.

I admit the coders worked pretty fast to push out an "electron remote" replacement, which exploits security holes in the game so that you can have the same experience Item Mall players do. Coupled with the fact that the Item Mall remote only lasted for 30 days, it grew into less of a "only for the cheaters" and rather "for everyone who wants to give the publisher a big fat middle finger".

I don't really want to defend the concept because, after all, this is hacking. But at least don't blatantly write it off as "oh it must be this and that" when you're reasoning.

I suppose exploits fall in the same category.

Take a look at this topic from this angle: Most F2P games aren't really games. They are cash grabs. There are thousands of people who play F2P games and a new MMO comes out every month, usually from the same companies. They do this because they make money by saying "This one will revolutionize the genre!!". When people see something fresh, they flock towards it. Creating hype for a game is the easiest thing to do. Telling people they have a "chance" to play in the beta makes them feel like they are part of something exclusive. When it is released to the public, it's just another anime click game, and people quit. They figure "If this game holds 1000 people, this next one will probably do as good".
