I find the way most games level your stat points for you as saying “you are to stupid to do your own stat/skill points”. AO did allow me to do this, but that’s about it. It’s going to suck starting over fresh, no guild, no buddies to start with, just cold starting over. Can any one recommend a relatively new game that has some pretty intelligent “old school” feel to it? I don’t know if every one my age who likes the “old school” setups have all grown up and moved on to other things or if I just cant find MMO’s that cater to this. Any tips are appreciated.

ughhhh.. what a stupid comment. It took you three years to reliase that AO is stupid?? you are not the bright one are you?? In MMORPGS its just a matter of days and sometimes weeks to reliase that it appeals to you or not. Being a vet player you could have posted some constructive opinion so that new players are encouraged. instead you call it stupid.. now thats what i call being STUPID!! and i will ignore all your posts in the near future.

And i am not going to give you any new tips either because if i recommend you a new game, who knows you call that game stupid too after playing it for an year or two?? or maybe call me stupid for giving you a tip.

Don't want to be rude, but he have explaned why he don't like the game anymore, and have explained it very clearly, so.. if you don't want to read his post.. why lose time posting?

    don't respond to that.

Btw reading i understood i'll try it, i'm searching a good Sci Fi MMORPG, i'm waiting for FaceofMankind, but AO seem very interesting under many aspects.

Have to disagree with you. AnarchyOnline is a dinosaur now, I've been playing EQ2 with some of my old guild mates and once you get past the lowbie quest and into the crafting system and higher level quest it really just blows AO away in every way. Also, AnarchyOnline is coded by monkeys, I'm not exaggerating. Everquest 2, supposedly one of the hardest to run games around, runs better on Very High Quality on my system then Anarchy Online does on any setting. That’s simply sad that AnarchyOnline runs THAT BAD and is four years old. Another thing, AnarchyOnline is a drama driven game, the social infrastructure is made up of winners and egos. Everquest 2 attracts a more mature crowed of people, I can confidently piss off at a moron with out having to worry about having some high level guild mad at me. The reason why is idiots just don’t play this game, they are not cuddled by any socialist idealist that think that idiots are an ethnic group that you shouldn’t discriminate against.

The EQ2 dev’s obviously don’t think that drama should be a part of the game. Instead of making it a “social violation” to train people, you just CANT train people. I’ve been trained once and that was because some one drug a bunch of mobs though me while I was letting off some AoE attacks, in AO you get trained constantly then the wrong person gets banned for it. Secondly, no analy intrusive 18 hour spawns that aren’t instanced. The longest spawn I’ve run into in EQ2 is 3 hours and even then you can get an instance more often then not depending on your server’s population. AnarchyOnline wants you to believe it’s one of the most RP friendly games out there, but look at EQ2, it completely blows away AO’s emote system, furniture system, guild hall system, basically it just blows AO away in every respect in regards to this.

Few things in AO’s favor. The map system is a lot better then EQ2’s, EQ2’s map system is really clunky and doesn’t really provide you with any tools. AnarchyOnline still has the best map system of any game. AnarchyOnline also has a better chat system, the windows, tabs, and buddy list are extreme innovative while EQ2’s feels like something ripped out of AC1.

In the end, the difference is that the Funcom dev team that is working on Anarchy Online are idiots, it was originally a 13million dollar game project that is now free. They don’t want to cater to their players, they want to piss them off. This is a competitive market and not any where near as barren as it was when AnarchyOnline was my game of choice. Funcom can not and will not survive in the MMORPG market until they hire some developers who want to keep their players happy and not cater to their own desires and the desires of a small egotistical test community. AnarchyOnline still has parts that are better then even the best mmorpgs on the market, but it’s going to way of the dinosaurs simply do to really bad management on behalf of their elusive development team.

    P.S. Quest v.s. Missions
As for missions giving you armor when you don’t have cash, EQ2 gives you armor from Quest. Quest have allot more personality then a mission as well, you talk to a NPC who probably will have a very strong personality and gives the world a sense of reality. You do his task, and he will give you equipment or money. Don’t know what quest to do? http://eq2.ogaming.com/db/ and look at the quest database. Also, you can actually do several quest at once, hence I had 3 quest at one point to kill a certain type of mob meaning it was like doing 3 missions at once, all with their separate xp, money and item reward.

    Twinking v.s. Not?

This is a big turn off for allot of people coming off of AnarchyOnline, not being able to twink feels weird and stiff. However, I find that twinking in AnarchyOnline is more or less substituting time consuming task for content. Would you rather build some kind of implant that you will out grow in a few levels, or would you rather work on making some kick ass armor that you will be able to sell for a very good price (implants are normally given away or banked) and, you get better at your trade skills as you go up in the levels. It’s not just armor you can trade skill, it’s weapons, back packs, furniture for you homes, spell books, and consumables (food, drink, arrows i.e. nano chargers, hp chargers and ammo). Not only do you not have to find some obscure web site to find out what you can make like in anarchy online, you get a in-game recipe book that you can pick and choose to make an item from raw materials that you gather, the great part is you are not limited to a trade skill profession like in AO, any profession can trade skill anything efficiently. You can actually just not level and only trade skill, the trade skill system is a game to it’s self. Also, in AnarchyOnline, it cost an arm and a leg to get started trade skilling, not so in EQ2, you can gather all the materials you need for free and with out killing a single monster, you simply scout for resources laying around the different zones, meaning you can get started from square one with out having to worry with having a high level soloer or guild to feed your trade skiller cash.. Do I miss fooling around with implants and buff? Not really when I have such a vast variety of just as intelligent and innovative trade skill oriented activities to choose from. If what you miss is the stat shifting, it’s still there. Only instead of implants shifting your stats you craft certain types of armor to raise certain skills, it’s all there and better then ever, you just have to know where to look.
