or is it? From what I have read the game is a PvE game with PvP mini games or options. Unlike a true PvP eccentric game where PVP is first and PvE is simply designed to level your avatar.
Its interesting to read how many people hold this game up to be the next holy grail for pvpingdom. With my vast and eternal well of knowledge I forsee in my crystal ball and purely speculation. 90% PvE ruleset ie no open world pvp and remaining will be open world pvp worldset that within 1 year will be consolidated to 2 or less servers with a smaller community of epeeners and hardcores.
Seriously this isnt Mortal Online or Darkfall. This is a prettier EQ2 that got laid by Aion and produced this offspring many months later.

Rift has instanced pvp (cross-server battlegrounds) as well as open server PvP. Rifts serve as a spot for open-world pvp. ~_~
a
That's odd, because it seems to me that most of the PvP hysteria has been centered on Guild Wars 2 not Rift.
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
Yes but so did WoW, Asherons Call, Eq1, Eq2, and UO to name a few. If history is anything but a lession of what will haopen in the future. Open world PVP will always be a secondary thought to a successful mmo.
Side Note: If the PVP doesn't give any form of points/loot/drios for pvping. Its a waste like having a really hot girl cousin that likes to experiment during college....
I mean when you take the fear away from death, you take away the desire to actually pvp. Id rather just have you kill me and go on my way if it means I can spawn back to the quest giver much faster .
Asherons Call had the best system of random loot drop and vitae (death penalty) to prevent mindless zerging.
If you read throught he forum posts you will see many players expecting a epeener waving fest of the masses
Was Aion at least a gentleman and buy dinner?
In any case, I find it interesting how people are saying this is a Vanguard type game and now you are saying people are calling it a pvp game?
How do these rumors get started? From what the devs have said I don't see anything that indicate this is a "pvp" game or even a Vanguard replacement.

lol "fin" dragonelder i think this game will offer enough pvp to satisfy the majority of the masses at least until gw2. rifts should create focal points for random open world pvp. as long as theres an opposing faction and me and my buddies can kill them whenever we find them i'm happy. currency and rewards can drop in instanced areas. also your posts are funny
uber black and red temple of nod gaming case
4 fuckin gigs of random access memory
ge force chopper sick balls over 9000 vid card bra
holy shit im bragging about my computer to play mmo's processor!
I could careless if it is a pvp mmo or not pvp breeds childish behaviors and would rather they just do away with the pvp aspect of the game all together I played on a pve server during the beta event and always play pve.
It's a quest grind solo MMO.
At least pvp would have been unique.
There's a lot of the Vanguard community around the official forums is all. The game has much more in common with WoW or EQ2 than it does Vanguard. Really it reminds me of Runes of Magic with way better textures and a few of WAR's random elements. That's the gist of it.
I thought that there had only been one beta so far and it was levels 1-20 of one side only? I don't think anyone has really tried PvP in the game yet, except a small population of alpha people. One thing I saw on the forums today was that there were open PvP dungeons that both factions could enter in and fight both each other and the dungeon encounters. I thought that was kind of interesting sounding. I'm a carebear, though, so I really worry about getting ganked...
What is a PvP game really anyway? Age of Conan and Aion were both pegged as PvP games and both turned into a PvE grind game. There isn't enough info out to speculate what kind of PvP RIFT will have, but unless it's similar in ideas as the original Guild Wars, I don't really consider a game a PvP game anymore. Stop the speculation and wait to find out.
As far as Ive read this game will have PVP in it..
Hence the 2 playable waring factions...
EQ2 and Aion?!?! thats a new one...Rift looks more like Warhammer, but with better graphics.Thats the most accurate description IMO..
Ive never seen an MMO with so many labels....but AION?! an Asian style game with angel wings and little foofy cute critters to kill?
Thats pretty damn wide of the bullseye lol..
I sincerely hope the OP is right and all the PvP people go elsewhere and DEVs focus more on PvE.

Or not.
more like another mmo with pvp cobbled together and thrown in for kicks.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
Wrong.
PVP in it now is that. A more unique focus, as I entailed, would be refreshing to see.
Looks like someone needs to do some serious reading-up on Rift,
In some thread in the Rift boards someone of the community team said there will be no non-cpnsensual PvP whatever on PvE servers and special open world PvP servers. Was in some thread someone asked what the PvP ruleset would be. So no mindless ganking of people who actually want to play the game on PvE servers.
I don't mind pvp at all,but not in rpg's because it is just done so pathetic.Example 2 warring factiosn,is to me like joining a 2 team hockey or baseball league, not much fun there.
I prefer pvp done on a small scale more the way FFXI did it.there is level restrictions and teams setup times to play. What a game should do to create some excitement is to do the level cap and create a sort of arena/league.Every week or two guilds battle off in a ladder system with the eventual winner gaining some prizes of some sort.Maybe a trophy for their guild hall,a rare item one of each .
To just tell players they can pvp here or there with no real purpose,is like going to a hockey practice and scrimmaging your team into two.Personally i feel it is nearly impossible to create any meaning to pvp outside of a ladder/arena setup, because players cannot game 24/7 to protect a spot or gain control of a spot that may have some importance.Even if yo uhave pvp rifts, you are demanding players to HAVE to show up at those times,if a few stragglers happen to wander into a roup of 50 eager pvpr's it is a lopsided outcome,of which wouldn't excite me at all, since there is no challenge.
The ONLY way to create challenge,is to make sure pvp is done fair, meaning equal teams/groups and equal levels.
I prefer Rift to be a PVE RPG,rather than a PVP fps,i am pretty sure they are naming their game a RPG,so it does not fit the bill of a fps.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
different servers..different rulesets
PvE servers will have areas you probably go to knowing you are entering to battle players, and there might even be duel areas.
PvP servers will probably be the mystical against the technical. You choose at the beginning and you will be able to PvP against any of the other faction at maybe any time in the open world.
With the options that Trion is making, there need not be a tug-of-war between the themepark enthusiasts and massively-multiplayer enthusiasts.
PvE servers will have pvp mini games and optional pvp Rift events.
PvP servers will have controlled areas with contested areas and maybe some interactive maps with areas that can change control.
That's the info out there. Server selection similar to other games on the market.
IT has instanced/open pvp on a pvp server, the pve servers have optional flagging in pvp zones. Raid rifts in contested zones.
Players drop 'rare' loot, but it is not a loot players items loot, its loot from a table of stuff.
Game is still in beta, and these things can change, Rift has shown they will listen and change things, even though many call these open beta events stress test only events, and that nothing will change...But that hasn't really held up from the podcasts and dev/ceo peoples discussions.
They want a game people want to play, so they aren't going to thumb their nose at people, if they get enough feedback.
Just to inform the masses here about Aion in its current state.. They have successfully fixed the (turned into a PVE grind game) by fixing the rifts back to close to the way they were. So people are once again rifting and PVPing alongside PVEing. They have also upped the XP rate from quests and kills as well as the loot. Decreasing what some would call grinding. As for this game. I got sucked into Rift originally under the false rumor of it being a Vanguard Replacement. Sadly it will not be. But I for one still plan to give it a shot. As it looks to be interesting at least. If not I will go back to Aion which seems to have a great future ahead of it. Also plan to try GW 2,.
I have seen the screen shots of Aion. Angels? Flying around with wings? It's a little to lordly for my tastes. Also the anime style is very Eastern. Again not my style. Rift will definately not be a game like Vanguard. Rift will actually be a finished game on release with lots of people to group with. Guildwars 2 will be solid more than likely. PLus the whole free to play one time purchase is huge.
