well....it's free to play...so most of the argument loses wings...but yeah...they knew way better.
People paid for the boxes to get into this continuing beta. Even those there through CE buddy keys are there because someone bought the box and gave them a key. There is no "free-to-play" about it.

this is true, but....it's free until further notice.....and i just did the math on another post.....if it stays free let's say until march...and i decide to keep it, i'd have only paid 8.75 a month until then....which to some i know is 8.74 too much, but if it goes on longer than that it won't make a difference.....yeah i spent 70 bucks.....and i know you can use that argument about anything you buy game or not. but the longer it stays free.....the less i'm angry. and if they do decide to start charging...and i'm not satisfied...i'll cancel....i'm only sticking around at this point to see if the improvements will be worth the sub price, if they aren't....then i'll just know better, and wait for the first expansion....if the mmo i'm interested in even gets that far.
I think people refusing to play a game that's not worth it even when it's FREE (FFXIV) is a lot more disappointing than a dead game, myself. I bet Square-Enix ( or at least their accountants) would agree.
Are you implying that this wasn't the case for APB?
Frankly, around 400k players have played this game in the West. Why is it a nominee for "Worst game everyone played"?
APB died not because it was a bad game but because companyw as in financial trouble even before the game released. FFXIV is where it is today because at core its a broken MMO. I find it sad that you are arguing over if APB is worst compared to FFXIV. As if being second worst is some kind of achievement?
Ummm... No.
APB died because it was a bad game with fundamental issues the developers couldn't afford to fix.
Seriously.
You know, it's one thing being dedicated to bashing a game as some are to bashing FFXIV. It's something else altogether to lie and revise history about other games to do so. You are clearly doing the latter here.
There were articles, discussions and reviews aplenty discussing all the problems APB had as a game, discussing why it failed. To pretend otherwise is nothing short of utter dishonesty.
If APB had been a better game than it was and more people were playing it, "the developers not having enough money" wouldn't have been a problem.... because they'd have been making money.
As for knocking Hyanmen for defending FFXIV in comparison to APB... Holy hypocrisy Batman... Aren't you here propping up APB - a completely failed game - as compared to FFXIV? That door swings both ways, friend.
actually no, APB wasnt THAT bad and the game certainly had its followers.
btw, this counts double since APB players werent mindless, blind diehard loyalists to an IP that would play any shit as long as it had the IP name stamped on the box.
RTW simply had an enormous debt and the money APB was generating didnt cut it....by a long long shot. yep, APB had fewer players, thats what happens with IPs...well known IPs get more backup longer, new games that noone ever heard about go down the drain faster when they are bad.
nonetheless, APB being a tremendous train wreck, as a game it was in a far beter shape than FFXIV was, is, and will ever be. It was sorta playable and didnt kill people of sheer boredom.
in economic terms APB was a much bigger catastrophe than FFXIV...no shit sherlock, if you weight the IP/no-IP factor (and then consider that the IP in question is Final Fantasy, one of the biggest, most well known IPs in the gaming world) it wasnt really a fair competition up there.
In gaming terms its the polar opposite. FFXIV is far worse than APB was by a mile.

Before you accuse me of lying do your own research. Realtime had enormous debt even before the game released. If APB had a backing of a company like SE you think it would have gone under? nope. It would sitll be floating and trying to survive. Moreover, as far as reviews are concerned again please do your own research. It had better and much respectable scores compared to FFXIV which got the lowest scores in history of AAA mmorpgs. Ofcourse every MMO has some issues, but you can't say that APB was a broken mess like FFXIV because that would be lying. But why to argue? we are still arguing about which is worse FFXIV or APB. As if second worst is some kind of achievement?
Do you really believe that FFXIV is still around because its a better game? nope because SE's reputation is at stake and they got damn deep pockets to keep it alive.
Being as neutral as possible in the issue I think FFXIV syands out as a bigger failure/dissapointment than APB for a number of reasons. APB was made by a dev without a strong reputation for making mmorpg's like SE, doesn't have the backing of a company as big as SE and to be quite honest the amount of vitriol from players of APB doesn't seem to rise to the level of criticism that FFXIV does.
My opinion was that while quite a few people "hated" what APB offered many more just didn't see it worth a sub fee, while FFXIV truly created an uproar.
They were both failures to be sure but FFXIV had a far loftier perch to fall from.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
