I have always been a veteran MMO player playing games like EQ and DAoC etc for years and could never get my head round why WoW was so popular. Of course I bought the game at release and have dibbled and dabbled but never really gotten to far into the game (think my max level was around 65 once). So cataclysm comes out so I thought I would give it a try since there isnt much on the MMO front going on right now and I have realised that i do not like any of the classes in WoW. The classes just do not scream out fun for me, I have tried several classes but for some reason i just dont think the classes are really fun to play like classes in other games. I was wondering is it just me who doesnt like the classes or is it other people? I know they use the same building blocks as other MMO's but it may be the play style I dont like ha. Anyway I was wondering what people thought of the classes, are they imaginative or standard etc etc?

I don't know why you don't like the classes but just about any mmo has the same classes with similar mechanics these days. I personally love all of the classes in wow.
In vanilla wow tanking was a challenge.....after the first Xpansion i just played DPS chars...then you needed the GS of 5K+ and thats when i quit wow forever.......the cata xpansion i didnt even buy anymore......realy lost my faith in that game.....waiting for Rift and D3.
Not even sorry i cant play wow anymore.....i went to the competition, Everquest 2 and loving it.....until rift comes out, that will be MY new wow
Class mechanics has been dumbed down so much this expansion , that its boring like hell.
Why they changed to this system , with 0 freedom and no promises of min maxing allowed.
I wouldn´t had a clue , after having hopes that 10 points invested after mandatory 31 points .
Offers different choices and freedom , alas not to be, everything is controlled that it really doesn´t matter anymore
The game is not played for classes or diversity , its just played for items .
So dont like items , this game is sadly all about that .
I think WoW strikes a fun balance between challenge and choice. As a protection warrior PvE I have enough interesting choices to make between spec / gems / glyphs / reforging that I do not feel like I am being forced down a certain path - even though I am basically a tank, I have several options available for dealing with pulls, spell prevention and some semi-CC abilities.
Dual spec also means that my class choice doesn't limit my role or my playstyle to one particular class.
I also played EQ since Kunark and I personally feel that WoW is superior in every aspect - except for perhaps lore which has a comic book feel.
Still each to his own. I personally can't agree with the arguments criticising WoW here because you really have so many options there is something for almost everyone. Almost.

I like the Priest and the Hunter classes. That's pretty much it. This extends to most other MMO games though.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
I have to say honestly i enjoy every one of the classes, because they all have their own reason and uniqueness to them. But of course, all classes start out boring and un-fun at low levels, that's just how it goes. You have to spend some time to enjoy the class, its been like that in every MMO ; the beginning is just that hump that seems to never want to go away. Personally, some people say that WoW's classes are boring and un-creative but if you think about it, per every class there are really 3 branches that you can choose to go through, like for Shaman lets say, their is the complete caster version of elemental for damage dealing, then theres restoration which is lack of damage and full on healing, then there is enhancement which is a dual wielding melee dps. So, i dont really see how people can say that this game has boring classes, because it really doesnt..
PS - All mammals have nipples.
Get over it already.
Other MMOs have buffer, debuffer, crowd control, etc.

Well healing is actually difficult now. Heroic healing requires a lot of mana conservation and management. At least with the priest class.
Don't try so hard.
It's not a shame if a game isn't for you.
No mather how many people it draws, all that mathers is if you enjoy it or get into it.
Even I can't always explain why some games I like and some that I don't. And I played various kinds of mmo's. Sandbox,theme parks, f2p, mmofps...
Its not that their boring, its because blizz has made everything so easy that class have been stripped down. Ask any priest when the last time they used shackle? I bet some dont even know what it is. Same as sap for rogues. There are a lot of cool and fun spells to use in wow, but unfortunetly they dont need to be used anymore.
Those are just consolidated into the various Talent-Trees.
Every class has some form of CC but some are better than others. Arcane Mages polymorph and ring of frost reign atm (except for maybe glyphed fear) and Palys/Shamans still give out most of the buffs.
TBH, nobody really wants to play a pure utility class (for example Bard) if it cant hold its own in the trinity.
Personally i wouldn't find it very fun to just stand back and play hymns to give my tank +1% of damage protection...
I agree with this, WoW has lost a lot of it's uniqueness. Not clicking with character classes happens. I still can't play LOTRO because of it.
Its all right. Nothing too complicated here. Game is not your type. if you like everything in life how boring that would be?
Who could have thought that WOW could bring super power like USA to its knees?
