PS3 the, down sides to it.

Like many I was debating on getting this for the computer or PS3 and as I have beta's for bolth this is what I have experienced in the PS3 as huge down sides to it, these have also been in another game that is a semi MMO for the PS3 MAG a FPS with 256 player capacity per match
1. Freezing As this is sony's crap ass servers and over all lack of caring for their games you will run into a freezing issue that basically locks your PS3 up and forces you to turn it off manually, this is not a beta issue this is a sony issue that is going on in MAG now and also in DC universe depending on how they want to address or not address this issue the basic response to this has been a " We can not duplicate the freezing issue that many of you are complaining about" .
2. Do not expect any clan or guild tools to be put into the game for the PS3 sony does not like and will not support any idea of people getting together as a community that could exclude the random casual player that might not or could not get into a big clan or guild and feel that their experience would be lessened and they would lose him as a customer so they cater to individual players not groups, Example MAG has clan wars implemented into it, concept your clan of 32 to 128 players could challenge another clan and you could fight it out and see who is the best clan this function is in the game but sony will not allow it to be implemented for the above reason this is sony telling a company what will be allowed and what will not be allowed in a game not created by sony.
3. The people playing this and the community or lack their of is and will be simply craptastic, it basically gets down to this most of us playing a MMO have played MMO's for years be it WAR,WOW,AOC,EQ, ETC.ETC. and you have played this on a computer and maybe joined a guild and used their form's or the games forms and so on, that is how computer players are also computer players ( even solo WOW players) have learned to work together as a team if you are a healer and you are trying to RDPS in a raid and not healing or your a tank not tanking and MDPSing in a raid you will not last long in that group and will have trouble finding another group that will put up with that so you learn to do what is needed for the group and learn the basics of following orders and giving them when needed, for the most part console players are all about them self's they are looking for trophies and will completely screw up a gaming experience as they trophy hunt and could give a shit about anyone else except them self's also most console players do not use form's and most do not have MIC's add in to the fact that most console players do not play computer MMO's and you have the making for pure failure on the PS3.
4. I understand its a beta and playstation+ members got a free beta down load but here is what I ran into as a example of the players you may be playing with, I am on the PVP server and notice people are basically not using their mini map as you can see enemies on the map and no one is going after them this is on the PVP sever to, I find 2 enemies trying to gank and start attacking them the funny or sad part is the people who where being attacked by these 2 guys had no clue that a player not a mob was attacking them as I am fighting these 2 guys their are like 8 friendly characters around me and they do absolutely nothing to help me kill them I end up killing the 2 of them and as I go up to one of the dead guys my game freezes (great) I restart and log on and shout their are enemy players in the area and this is where they are at I could almost hear the crickets in the back ground during the total silence over chat and the not 1 player showing up to get some PVP on the PVP server I would normally say this was epic fail but then again that's what you get for playing on a console
Understand this is not me bashing the game or every person playing this on the PS3 their are some very good players that play on the PS3 but they are few and far between this is my opinion on the experiences I have had playing this game and others that involve having more then 8 or 16 players grouped on one side I will be playing on the PS3 as playing this game on my 73" TV is just amazing .

First of all, there hasnt been an MMO made for a console outside of Everquest and FFXI.
What they are doing with this game is pretty ambitious. Your problem seems to be with the massive amount of noobs. Well i hate to break it to you but there is obvisouly going to be loads of them, they are bringing and MMO to a market of gamers that havent even considered playing one before. This is a good thing!
Secondly i spent my first hour in the game standing around like a total lemon on the PS3 because i had no idea how to interact with other players(still dont) and was trying to find my way through the menus, maps, characters screens etc
I have been playing MMOs for years and the interface on this on the PS3 is clunky and a bit confusing, so for a non mmo gamers they will obvisouly spend half of there time trying to work everything out.
I think you should give this game some time and as an experience player you should try and help the noobs and not bash the game for being full of clueless people.
I agree to a certain extent with the OP, there are some growing pains for sure, I however have yet to experience the freezeup ( knocks wood ), and find once ya get into the swing of things it is more fun for me on the PS3.
I also have the beta for the PC and find the control system a little out of whack, but it is new and they seem to be working towards fixing things as feedback is giving by testers/players
I also noticed the communtiy in the PS3 version to be rather confused for lack of a better term, but also think as mentioned, everyone who is a plus member got the download, and alot may have gotten it and haven't a clue about how the genre works
I would think, maybe at least hope that once live, the confused will have been weeded out and those who are looking for a fresh MMO/Action game will come together and candy will rain from the sky lol

To chat in the game you have to hit the select button then hit the x button to bring up the mini keyboard menu. I admit it is not the greatest thing but atleast it is something. I did see some voice chat options in the settings but how they are going to try to make it work for the ps3 is unknown I think at this point.
Kinda off-topic but if I buy this game on the PC will I be playing on the PS3 servers? ganking should be fun if no one is paying attention lol
Last I read there is no cross platform at launch but down the line who knows. In all honestly, it don't matter what system you choose for pvp, you gonna get ganked and you will get your fair share of kills as well.
What about the 720P res on the PS3 edition of DCUO? Big con there if they don't bring it up to speed with the PC. Been playing it and it looks like @ss compared to the PC. I wan't it to be just as good so I can play both!
Yeah i'm thinking alot of the same things, as far as I know this beta (for PS3) launched even after the pc beta so the players are even newer than those on the pc, and yeah I've played mmo's for years and still am not too familiar with chatting in the game either because of the clunky interface and I had my ps3 hooked up to a pretty crappy tv and for those out there who also had this problem will tell you that the text in the game right now is pretty horrible. Sony admitted as much by the fact they said they'd be making improvements to it.
Ultimately though I don't think folks should ever expect the same kind of interaction with the ps3 population as one may see with the pc community. Typing is a piece of cake and I just don't see too many running out to buy a keyboard when you can play so much of the game without it.
Is it something in the water around here it seems like every other post is some complaint or another about "community" lately.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
This might be a stupid question. Why change the UI for a console? Can you not buy playstation mouse and keyboard? Couldnt the UI then be the same as everyone is using a mouse and keyboard? Could console games be written with the demand in place for their consumer base to use a mouse and keyboard on the console?
SOE just needs to intergrate a voice chat interface for the console. I can't see how this is not being considered since mmos are usual a social form of gaming. I'll have to look at the voice chat settings for this when I get home and see if they are even working to make this happen.
Nope , and for two main reason.
One it would just be a bad business decision. Most strictly console gamers are console gamers because they like the use of the controller, they the keyboard and mouse interface and wont buy a game where you had to use one hence the game no matter how good or bad would not sell on a console. Console gamer like having the controller in there hands weither its the controller, steering wheel, or gutiar they like the control in hand its just a different play preference.
Two they couldnt or wouldnt do it for legal reasons. When making a game all consoles have a list lof " laws" they set that have to apply to a game for it to be released. If a game does not met those requirements for that console they would not be released by that console. In this case one "law" or standard on ps3 and xbox is that a game has to be able to be played with all standard controller systems that apply to that console, so pluging any type of controller ( or software for that matter) does not cause the user a problem while playing the title. Now while some games can be designed to be played with a specialty controller or control system like Gutar Hero for example it has to still be able to be played with basic controls.
Hence you can play madden wit a gutar, Rock Band with a steering wheel and the game has to still function. doesnt have to work well but can cause the user software or ui problems.
Now what they can do is add on the option for users to use either the controller or keyboard and mouse interface which has different ui but they cant restrict controller

I've played both and it looks the same or close.
Game is clearly meant for vent or some other voice chat because the U.I. chat is the worst I've ever experienced. Hope this gets smoothed out for the PC version before launch. Otherwise...game is really good in my opinion..I've posted about it on other threads so won't bother here.
