I've been playing Shaiya for over 1.5 years now, and it's truely the easiest and really free F2P game that i've come across (I've played many games both subscription and F2P). I have 2 to 3 toons now with uber set of gears and are considered to be "PvP" zone killers. When i show up, I can easily turn the tide unless I'm vastly outnumbered by the opposing faction. And I did this without ever spending any real cash, cheating, hacking, or scamming anyone. And NO!, you don't have to play 24/7 farming. In fact, I was probably rather unlucky in this game, in the sense I never won any of the major raffles, gotten uber drops, and having lost a few expensive gears during system rollback which i never got back. But end of the day, this game was completely free for me, lot's of fun, and made many new friends.
Shaiya is really a 2-Faction PvP game. If you looking for more of a PvE game, then I wouldn't really recommend this game. I would highly recommend "Grand Fantasia" also hosted by Aeria. As a PvP game by itself, I would rate Shaiya maybe 7.5 out 10. The graphics are good, but really it just copies many features from other popular games. However, I give it a final 9.5 out of 10 because Aeria is quite generous in it's promotions, the player base is good, the relative easy to master this game, and it's really F2P. Despite what some claim, you don't have to "Pay to Win". Of course you will progress faster if you spend money to buy AP.
If you don't plan on spending any money on the game, you will really need to be patient in the beginning to build up your overall wealth, unless you get lucky with some of the promotions/raffles/loot wheel spins/etc. and win something expensive to sell or get a nice expensive drop during PvP. The actualy key is not to be so obsessed with gears and leveling in the beginning (you will get pushed around as new player) It's far more important to understand and learn how to make a steady income in gold/AP and join a helpful guild. Since it would take too long to write all my tips/strategies in detail, i would just suggest reading the Shaiya forum on Aeria website first. Lot of tips and strategy are already posted there. Make sure you do the free AP promotions that Aeria gives, so you can take advantage of the 100% AP rebate promotions or the 1AP promotions which happens once or twice a month. This is like a monthly allowance . Make sure you build a good farming toon (HM mode) first, before you go crazy spending on your PvP toon. The character build, links for gears, and costs are very different b/w farming and PvP'ing. Also a good farming toon can double as a PLvL toon (you can sell PLvL Services to other players). And really try to understand the economy of the game. Lot's and Lot's of mis-pricing occur which allows for quick trading profit (which is why you need to save gold to take advantage of this).
Lastly, don't let the Inflation scare you. If you understand about RL "Inflation" it's easily manageable in game. Actually, it's much easier for a newbie now because of the inflation. Many of fixed priced NPC items are actually much much cheaper in real terms. I played this game at a time when 75 million gold for a NPC mount was a major decision. Now a days, that's so easy to make even as a newbie.

I've played Shaiya a long time ago. When i needed to get a normal mode toon to lvl 50 to be eligible to hard mode... i did make an hard mode toon and stopped shortly after and the ultimate mode was just too stupid to even consider. I mean, character is deleted if not rezz'ed by someone ou used the conveniently CS rez runes or something.
Open world was PvE locked and there was a few maps which were PvP and lapis dropped there. PvP itself could be fun sometimes but it was a CS whoring Pay2Win with their buffs - he who didn't used buffs was quickly dismissed out of the battlefield with poor scores. The amount of twinks farming rep in the lower maps was also terrible.
All in all, Shaiya is one of those games i wouldn't recomend and there are other games more substantial out there depending on players tastes and wanted features.
tried this ages ago.
looked extremely generic grindfest.
sure you can say that 'OH YOU ONLY PLAYED A FEW HOURS'.
yea, but if i got bored during that period, because game plays EXACTLY the same like any random asian mmo... then im definitely not gonna play it more.
game has to be fun immediately.
while its nice of you to write this sort of recommendation, in future please dont use terms like 'AP' or 'HM'. AP for all i know could mean anal penetration.
and it's truely the easiest and really free F2P game
This is whats wrong with the mmo community, since when is Easy..... good?...
Allow me to clarity what i meant by "truely easiest and really F2P", perhaps I could have chosen better words. As compare to many F2P games, this one really allows you to compete with players who spend money even if you don't spend any money yourself. Believe me, some players spend unbelievable amount of money. And yet I'm able to compete with just about all of them Head to Head. Personally, I find nothing challenging about alot of the games out there that are esentially designed so that only players who spend the most money can dominate or it's simply a function of how much time you spend. In fact for Shaiya, I seriously doubt you can get to the top simply by grinding mobs 24/7. Then again i wouldn't know for sure, since I've never tried it.
There is a lot of room in this game for you to compete even without spending money. My big edge in this game is perhaps my finance background. Understanding "expected means" allows me to understand where alot of mis-pricing occurs in gears. I know when to buy already made gears from players and which gears I should make from scratch. This has saved me unbelievable amount of gold and time. Also, understanding inflation and how to hedge against it has really helped me in protecting my "net worth" in this game. I guess "relative value" analysis is also really handy. It's perfectly reasonable for a player to out fight another player with a "cheaper" set of gears, if they really understand the game. Some gears are grossly over-priced for the actual edge that they can provide in PvP.
Anyways, I can go on for a long time about all the different things (not just finance or statistic knowledge) that can potentially give you a real competitive edge in this game. But i will just end it with this. I'm not saying this is the easitest Fantsay PvP MMORPG game ever by any means. But as far as F2P games go, you have a realistic shot at competing without spending money. And it doesn't involve playing 24/7, cheating, hacking, or scamming other players. I'm not the only player that has been able to accomplish this. You simply have to play a lot smarter not alot harder. If that's not what your looking for in a game, then i guess this game isn't for you.
I have heard many good things about shaiya but seeing the game the most easiest makes it more labeled as old game thats why i didnt tried it, but im still waiting for my friends thoughts if we will play it.
