Okay, so I'm really liking this game so far, although I'm only on day 4 of playing....
But I gotta say, this has to be the weakest community I've ever seen in a MMOG. Everybody seems to be soloing, I can count the number of times I've been in a group on one hand. There's no chat, except for people trying to sell....
Maybe I'm in the wrong city or on at the wrong time, or maybe this will improve after I reach higher levels..... but I'm really surprised at WoW's seemed lack of community.
I'd post this in WoW's forum also, but I'm too afraid to ever go near a Battle.net forum ever again. /Shudders

The most soliong happens pre lvl20, because around that level you can start entering first instances which are group challenges. A lot of people solo because unlike in other MMO's they actually can solo to max lvl efficently. But the phat lewt is in instances so everyone will want to group eventually.
The keyword is choice. If you want to solo, you can solo. If you want to group, you can group.
In my personal experience (although obviously this will differ from person to person and from server to server) people seem to group and solo in pretty equal measures. I know I do.
However, this...
...is something I haven't experienced at all. The general chat is constantly buzzing with people looking for groups.
Gotta say I have to agree with you there. WoW isn't really made for community building.
Most classes can solo reasonably well and thats way beyond lvl 20 too. You will need a group to do elite quests/instances though, but thats about it.
Also if you look at the crafting/item system you will notice that it really doesn't call for much interaction between players. Most components for crafting can either be gathered by yourself or bought through the Auction House. Anything you buy or sell will usually go through the Auction House as well, as this is most convinient.
I like the game, but the lack of community support/encouragement is what's gonna make me leave in the long run.
/D
I disagree. I sometimes solo, but many times I've quested with guild mates or simply someone I've run into to complete to the same quest I was on. Do you ever ask people to team up? Just send and invite or ask to join a group. I've rarely been turned down.

Dont you think the community will grow stronger when the free month is over and people are getting sttled in the game?

Go on the RolePlay servers. I have heard and expirience in the beta, that the community is better and players are mutch more mature on those servers!
Nuff said......
Yeah deal with it, or else

I guess it all really depends on the players, there have been times when the party I was in was social, and then there were times when it was solely business.
In terms of finding a group, never really had any major problems. Things have worked out pretty good for me in the game so-far, so I really don't have any complaints at the moment.

that's what I'm hoping too. I purchased this and EQ2 when they came out. While I really enjoy both games I liked EQ2's community a whole lot better. My plan is to play that for awhile until I'm sick of it and then come back to WOW. Hopefully by then most of the youngsters will have gotten bored and gone on to the next Pokemon or something.
That's not to say there are'nt jerks in any game. WOW just seems to attract them more for some reason.
I really disagree with this because I have been playing for a month now and have had lots of fun grouping with people. I also solo alot, which is good too in this game. The general chat has a whole lot more than just selling in it, especially when a raid is being formed or if the opposing faction is raiding your towns.
I have been lucky so far because I have not run into a single "bad" person in WoW yet. Everyone is always happy, friendly, and willing to group and sometimes people will randomly walk up to u and give you an item for free . The community is awesome.
If you are still unhappy with the communtity at this time, try joining a guild because they are the best kind of community.
I miss DAoC
I agree.
I come from SWG.
And WoW pwns SWG in everything.. well.. except for crafting, but combat, design, everything.
But i have to say that I feel community is very weak compared to SWG.
You cant build your house or create a town with friends. You cant really dress up and be uniqe, write a biography, take on a title and there are not social classes like dancers, musicians and people who play just to entertain and make a living of being social.
In SWG people learned skills from each other. it forced people to interacte.
WoW is not that bad though. there are a few emotes, an uniqe dance per race and stuff but I feel its very generic.
Guild features aswell. Besides PvP and the usual group/raid what can I really do with a guild?
No event managers as of yet and it does not seem to have a structure made for many or cool player events. yeahh pvp tournements but I was talking more non combat stuff.
This scares me because just updated quests and dungeons is not gonna keep me in the game. This is not like diablo.
I dont wanna complain because everything about this game is just so cool. but it truly does seem more of a hack'n slash game than anything else.
U understand, like gamespy said, that WoW is a MMO light in these terms, I still think it offers amazing complexity within its combat. Everythin around combat - quests, abillities, classes, rewards, equipment, economy, proffesions and so on is so amazing that no peer can be found, and that in itself is such a big achivement.
Maybe WoW is just not what im looking for in an MMO.
With that being said I only played US open beta, but the realm forums sure seem dissapointed and un-fun!
Sorry to disagree with you friend I haven't experienced the whole "nobody talks" thing ever. Maybe you're on a low population server that's Roll-Playing..? LoL I dunno....all i know is that Warsong and other high pop. servers i've been on so far are always booming. Especially community wise. If there's not people selling stuff (like the point u made) then there's a lot of higher lvls LFGs and people asking help for quests ---(which annoys the hell outta me :::: read your quests you n00bs the answers are in there!!!!)--- other than that...there's chatting 24/7. Switch to Warsong!! You won't find disappointment! GL, HF all.

It works like this:
Being on a PvP server brings you the wankers.
The l33tkids, the peekay gankers and the cs players.
avg. age: 12
Being on a PvP server brings you the chicks.
The undecided and the casual players, those not so hardcore.
avg. age: 25
Being on a RP server brings you the real deal.
The hardcore gamer, the social lunatic, the talkers and so on.
avg. age: 40
So it's mostly about choice there.
Ganking casual or hardcore
I go for casual..
Also remember that if u ain't looking for people to talk to
u ain't gonna find 'em
Rest your trigger on my finger.
Played so far: 9Dragons, AO, AC, AC2, CoX, DAoC, DF, DnL, DR, DDO, Ent, EvE, EQ, EQ2, FoMK, FFO, Fury, GW, HG:L, HZ, L1, L2, M59, MU, NC1, NC2, PS, PT, R:O, RF:O, RYL, Ryzom, SL, SB, SW:G, TR, TCoS, MX:O, UO, VG, WAR, WoW...
It all sucked.
i think being on the rp server is being a hardcore dork=P
yall rp'ers know that, and i respect yall- i just feel all weird and gushy inside when i start rp'ing

I see less problems with the community of WOW then I did with EQ when it first came out.
There are a few other things to consider as well. WOW is new, so everyone is just starting to get to know each other on their servers. So the community has not been given a chance to grow. Comparing an older established community to a new one is like comparing apples to oranges.
Once the battlegrounds really start coming around then community will grow more so. Having a common enemy helps us make friends. After all the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
I don't have WoW but I do know from other games that grouping is made for higher levels. I know that in DAOC people work hard just so they can get a decent group in the 10-35's. 35+ all kinds of people are inviting you in for a xp group or a raid of some sort. (Just Hail for My Sake)
Whats the point in playing a MMORPG with no community? Why bother having people next to you but not doing anything with them?
World of Warcraft does LACK community alot.
I have been playing Wow for a long time since beta.
I have tried so hard to help the community. I have gotten lucky and have found some nice people that will help lower lvls and help do many things and I thank them alot.
But We need to stop being Selfish and be a community, that gives.
The point is to have fun with others. So if you just want to solo why not just by a RPG or just go on those servers that are focused on that.
