I'd suggest vanguard, eq2, wow, lotr as all being the best pve game. For group play I'd probably give vanguard the top spot but there really isn't a great population so it can be tough to get a group. Wow is most polished with solo and group content. eq2 is pretty good with plenty of solo and group content. Lotr is ok also.
Actually eq2 is all mostly solo content until endgame, I use to play eq2 and there direction is terrible as of right now for what I look for in a mmo, the only time real grouping happens is the open world dungeons and etc, but even then pugs are iffy, lotro its basicly like wow a balance of solo and group content but lately it became more solo friendly sure I found groups but not as much as id like, but my main issue is I could not get into the presentation and combat of the game, I understand the lore needed to be restricted but I just could not get into the classes visually and playstyle, loremaster looked great and all but I was not into his play style, and rk was ok but I prefer to see things flying from my character and not spawning from the mob.
And I explained wow above, like I said unless it has changed in the past year I am not touching that game.

lol you are in the same vote has me then i used to play eq2 but over time it went to much like wow and i stop playing then.
if you want group play ffx1 is the best on the market but dont hold youre breath on finding goups easy i wish i played it when it came out.
now has for wow if you like grouping most the time like me they now have random dungeon finder now from lv15 onwards and you and 4 others just beam to a random dungeon and you can do this all the way to top lv its great fun for me has i group more the solo so you might like it to.
Well I have always been interested in trying ffx but id rather try it first, but even then there is probably nothing but vets now no new players to group with, and I also hear its almost as bad as eq1 for a timesink, I did not want anything to time consuming, I play nightly sure but not every night and I have a job, family and etc.

Aren't timesinks supposed to be good though? It means you'll never run out of things to do in that MMO and that is what people ultimately look for in a MMO? Maybe instances that take 4-5 hours to complete can't be done on weekdays. But otherwise, I really don't see why married working people fear timesinks so much..then complain about the casualness of World Of Warcraft.
I never once complained about the casualness of wow, and never did I imply I was looking for a time sink, you obviously never played eq1 if you think timesinks are ok, now I do not know if final fantasy a timesink or not, I do not mind if it has depth as long as it does not take 3 hours to feel like something is accomplished, I will like I said give it a try, but I highly doubt many families have time to play timesinks, there is a reason why such games as vangaurd have low populations not only due to a bad release but because everything took forever, not sure about now.
Now any mmo can be played casually and it is nice to have lots to do eq2 was fine in this area for me, I did not feel the need to play all the time like some mmos, so like I said ealier there is nothing wrong with having lots to do, but there is something wrong when you do not get a sense of accomplishment from one playthrough.
I decided to go ahead and pay for a month of sto, I tried the demo and it is allot of fun, checked out a few more recent reviews seems the game is coming along much better now days, if anything I think the game is underrated, just fyi ground battles are much better now and the game is in season 3. Anyways I am loving it and being a star trek fan I may even get the lifetime sub one of these days.
Besides cannot be anymore repetitive then cox, atleast its star trek.
