lots of people have been complaining. im not surprised that SOE screwed over EQ2. SOE is a really bad company and i would stray from any future games they might put out.

  • RammurRammur Member Posts: 575
And thus i said in a old post of mine i quit play eq 1 for the sma e stoopid reason always down at my convientent time and they charge out the ying yang for expansions and what not and 75% of the time somethin screw up so they spend more time fixing cheesy ass errors that shoulda been fixed in the beta phases. so outa ya get to play outa 25% of there down time.that what ya all paying for too there dumb maintenence while we wait.

Played EQ2 for 2 weeks.  Sucks Swamp Water. Canceled my account  Been playing World of Warcraft ever since and having a great time.  Good server stability, good selection of servers, server downtime close to zero, player downtime (medding mana / health) close to zero.  Lag only a problem in large population (25+ characters) meetings (not zones, there are only a few very, very large zones).

Fundamentaly, EQ2 is still in Beta and will be for many more months.  EQ2 is just more of the same old EQ1 Grind.  And when I say more, I don't just mean continuation.  I really do mean more Grind as in additional Grind.  Yech!

So, for a great time actually *playing* a MMORPG, come give World of Warcraft a try.

  • RemyVorenderRemyVorender Member RarePosts: 4,006

the grind in EQ2 is alot faster than EQ1 (well EQ1 from '97 to 2000 anyways).

I'd like to make what i think is a valid point about the term "Grinding". In a game like EQ2 the grind, by itself, moves at a good pace i think. Now add in all there is to do in EQ2 (questing, killing, crafting, working the market, exploration, gathering, instancing dungeon romps with friends, etc...) and the grind isnt a grind anymore because u are doing other things than just sitting in one spot killing the same spawn for hours on end.

do u want to max out your lvl in a month or 2? of course not. it should take at least 4-5months of playing a few hours a day. makes u feel like u actually accomplished something.

make no mistake i dont think this game is perfect by a long shot, but this is still the best MMO out right now. This is coming from someone that has played pretty much every MMO ever made.

WoW is a solid game too. i beta tested it for a bit. It's just a bit on the 1 dimensional side for me. lack of races/classes, combat is horridly boring, the world map is pretty small and there doesnt seem to be any point in grouping. solo xp is way better. grouping to me is a HUGE part of mmos, if not THE biggest part.

that being said it just comes down to what u like as a player. Until someone comes out with a completely new and revamped idea for MMOs, EQ2 is as good as it gets for me.

I havnt played WoW but im hearin great stuff about it quests i hear are real interestin.Blizzard is a great company too.Ill be jumping in on wow next week hopefully my cimputer should be able ta handle it got about 380+ ram and a geforce 4 if it dont then ill just upgrade again lol.

imageWoW to get into it ya also prolly gonna have to be a hard core warcraft fan to really get into it it is part of the series story wise.

  • RemyVorenderRemyVorender Member RarePosts: 4,006

its not nearly as hard to get into WoW as it is to get a feel for EQ2.

the quests in WoW i found are 90%: go here, kill or get this and come back. pretty standard stuff.

the quests in EQ2, at the beginning, are alot like that as well. but as u get further in the quests are very involved, having u run all over hell trying to find ppl, places and things. alot of the quests are needed to complete other quests. and many of the quests have more than one part to them.

WoW is a VERY simple, basic game. anyone over the age of 7 or 8 can play it with ease. that doesnt make it a bad game, just not as involved as some of the others out there.

again it all comes down to what u like. image

    Back on topic..

Yeah down time is pretty harsh especially if you on Runnyeye the unofficial UK server still waiting for AMS one ::::01:: downtimes about 3pm GMT each day it's okay if like me you work but on wekends too. :(

  • BearzenBearzen Member Posts: 17

Well, I dunno why my post didn't go through, but I agree with remyburke.  Both WoW and EQ2 are good games, just quite different.  It all just comes down to personal preference - play what you enjoy.

I am looking forward to the XP bonus when I get home from work so I can grind my way to 22.  LOL

What amazes me is this, it's Sony therefore they suck. When did this happen? It's one thing if you don't like a game for specific reasons (not fun, gameplay sucks to you, etc) but bashing a game because it's made by a company? Please. The WoW servers had major issues when the game went live, did anyone complain? No. The EQ2 servers had practically zero problems at launch, but now they have downtime due to a harware problem (among others) and Sony blows hard. Sony should die, etc.

Sorry for the rant, but I can't stand that. Both are great games, and both are good companies.

Back on topic now. Yes the downtime sucked, but it comes with the territory. Remember, Sony doesn't HAVE to fix the problem, they don't even have to keep their servers up for you. You aren't paying for the right to play, only for the opportunity to play. Hehe. But in any event, downtime sucks.

don't misunderstand me i LOVE the game but i thote sony should have learn some ting from EQ1 that its not good to have patches 1-2h every day and than don't test the updates you do to a weakened! and aground off that one hole weekend playing (my wife and son was away had the possibility to play allot lol) imageimageimage

I whas on the beta off WOW and i dont like the game its like a toy game!

The down time is going to bee sony's fall some beps like wow to and other games and the are going to leav if the dont fix this down times!

if you have 1h down time evry day no more then that not one hole wekend that suks

hehe.  The first week after launch, the game servers were going offline non-stop.  2 weeks later it started to stop and servers stayed online all the time.  Now it's back.  Whew, I'm glad I quit EQ2 before my free 30 days expired :)

Erm only time EQ2 had a serious downtime  they gave people extra 50% experience speed for 2 days ,gave 3 days extra free for the 2 days they were down and apologized.

I am unaware of any other major downtime apart from this period.

Now what more do you want SoE to do I ask you?

Classic, lol.  If there was an earthquake at their location, you guys would blame Sony.  If there was an earthquake at Blizzard, you'd all be gushing about how Blizzard did such nice new landscaping.

I agree sooo much with that. I mean all I hear is eq2 blows and go to hell eq2. Have the WoW Players looked at thier MO? I Swear at times Bugs and Duffy seem more realistic. I mean Don't get me wrong I love blizzards works Star Carft and War Craft, be give me a break. I mean the reason that eq's requirements are so high is beause they are planning for the future. I Mean does anyone remember OL' EQ, boxy figures and all. But then Bam Lucin exp. Fixed that problem. I mean if you have to remeber anything about the Sony corp. is that they know how to make improvements. I'm just not a big fan of WoW kinda remines me of a 3d version of Diablo, Yet another blizzard game. Overall I wish  we could just get along, I know it's not likely to happen but we can try right?

Note: I Love Diablo and I'm not blizzard bashing

Everything Sony does (in the gaming industry) sucks. Although this isn't a rock-solid fact, it is the popular opinion. They're just hopeless at what they do, and they've ended up with a commensurate reputation.

So the question here really is: Why would anyone expect anything different from them?

I mean you don't go to Burger King and complain because they only sell junk food.

I played EQ1 for about 3 years and constantly had problems with SOE and their customer service. I finally got fed up and quit. That is the reason I haven't bought EQ2. Sony is a good company. I own a dvd player, ps2, and I even put a Sony dvd-+RW/R drive in my pc, but they have really failed in my opinion and experience in their service to their customers on their mmorpgs: EQ and SWG, and now, it seems, on EQ2 so far. I haven't even played EQ2, but it looks like to be a great game. It is just dealing with SOE that turns me off.

LordLOC, you are wrong. If I pay for a game, I expect to be able to play it. I also expect good customer service. Doesn't matter if it is my opportunity or right, I paid SOE my hard earned dollar bills and they better deliver. That is the reason I didn't buy SoR and pay Nevrax for a game that is still in beta and having problems keeping the servers up. Once SOE has fixed the server issues and in game bugs, I'll buy EQ2 and give it a go, but not until then. I'll bide my time playing America's Army and Rome: Total War.

    heheh
I bought EQ2 played 1 week and tossed it into the garbage
it was  boring mundane and useless
I had more fun with ac1 and ac2 and even UO
which  had very little down time I might  add
MY advice is to steer clear of EQ2 its just another spawn sqauting game with  very poor game mechanics and the worst ever imaginable support
with 24 hour  server down time and its still full of bugs another attempt to rush a game to  market to make money
shame of soe for this  bottom feeder game

LoL do you even know what the topic is about?

Do you know what the downtime was about and do you know how SoE compensated its users for it?

Or are you just carrying your obsession and hate too far?

Oh wait my bad its firemagic we all know he got a serious issue he needs sorting out and the help he needs lies somewhere in RL not on the keyboard image

Nope, just making a fair comment on the state of a company that makes MMORPGs on the MMORPG.COM forum. Sorry my comment hurt your feelings so much that you needed to lash out with an insult, but I've noticed this usually happens when people have nothing intelligent to come back with.

The fact that they compensated people is not the issue. The issue is that they're seemingly unable to keep their servers online for any decent length of time.

Sony's customer service in the MMO arena is world-reknowned for being utter crap, and that's a fact.

I have some advice for you. Next time you see my nick in a thread, shield your eyes. My opinions seem to conflict with your delusions with a 100% success rate and I'd hate to make you cry any more than I already have.

It's only early in the mornings, and they're just routinely taking care of a few minor nooks and crannies in the system.

Usually it's 15 minutes. Servers are back up almost right after they take em down.

Every time one of you makes one of these meaningless "just ignore him"/"he's a troll"/"he's a fanboy" posts, I become more and more confident in my opinions.

After all, you obviously can't defend them.

Yea, I edited my post and replaced what I had written after I realized this thread was in The Pub, and not in the EQII section. I would have been justified if it was in the EQII section, but it's in a general area. I apologize.

    That's why I edited it.

LMAO... You EQ2 people would fall apart if you didn't have the word "fanboy" to throw at anyone who shoves a little reality in your face.

    EQ2 downtime > WoW downtime = I win
