is pvp in this game good? are there like seiges for castles or anything like that? pvp is the best part of mmo's in my opinion
If you like PvP or teamplay dont play WoW. Or its like this, PvP in WoW is not worst at all but if you like PvP most of the game I guess its not your game. Open world PvP is cool no doubt about that, arenas - ok but not that cool, its mostly FPS stuff in MMO. If you realy like PvP try Warhammer online, Age of Conan or EvE online - but EvE is more tactical and for some ppl boring.
But if you realy love PvP as I do and you also like kinda cartoon graphic definitely go for Warhammer, if you dont like cartoon graphic too much and you are looking for interesting combat system go for Age of Conan and pick melee class.
This is really not the case at all. The truth is, WoW has very competitive and engaging PvP.
The thing w/ WoW PvP is that its completely meaningless outside of getting rewards. So if you want PvP that has some sort of meaning in the actual gameworld, then yah... don't play WoW for PvP. Don't play Warhammer, AoC, or Aion for that matter either... play Eve or Darkfall.
However, if you like the idea of playing w/ other players in a competitive environment and getting better gear in the process... or you just like a polished and entertaining combat engine. Then WoW is very solid for PvP.
I enjoy PvP, I play WoW almost entirely for PvP because I enjoy doing BGs and arenas w/ friends. It's fun, its competitive, its requires a lot of teamwork, and I enjoy the gear progressions.
i was thinking of starting to play wow, but now i see all these hacking threads in another post, is it realy worth playing if people get hack so easierly... or are these people just stupid, i dont have a wow account yet i still get emails from "blizzard" people, trying to scam. but anyway back to the topic.
isit worth playing wow?
My answer
NO
i had a sub since 2003, when it first hit Europe, over the next 5 years my account was never hacked.
just recently after merging with battlenet my account got stolen. I didnt open any emails, didnt use keyloggers didnt buy gold.
Heck my account Was FROZEN since 2006. I uninstalled it, never went back, yet my account got stolen even though i changed emails and passwords linked to it.
I know for a fact i didnt get a keylogger between 2006 and 2008 as my PC was not hooked to the internet.
Even the staff here at MMORPG got his account stolen! its all done by BLIZZARD
Heck even their own GMS got caught posting up (on the website) links to THEIR gold farming sites!
My good and long term friend moods put it best "you cannot play wow these days without an authenticator" and I agree with him. I do believe blizzard had a breach and I do believe it was some time ago and they masked it with a fiasco regarding real names on forums it was a snowstorm to stop the public outcry on the forums.
Blizzard run the largest mmorpg they are not immune to hacks and if they admitted it there would be a meltdown on the forums. However my belief is that someone at the china office had access to things they shouldnt have and gave out the data to a farming company, perhaps it was someone clever at their previous chinese operators who copied database's onto a fat usb stick and handed it out. This is my personal theory because if it happened within the US the individual in question would be sued for millions and slammed into jail.
I do believe anyone who enjoys mmorpgs should for at least 6 months to a year play wow as an experience but leave when the gear grind becomes the only thing to do. Gear grind is not entertainment it is a filler to occupy our time with little fun factor, however if you have a good guild or enjoy pvp then its masked some what for a time period.
I costs 50 pence for a phone authenticator or £5/Euros for a hard one which is less than one months sub and protects your account for at least two years of use, I would buy one for every mmorpg I played seriously. But I wear a tinfoil hat and like to ensure that I am safe from the bad men.

just a currupt game then?.... i did have a trial account years ago, and like 2days ago i got an email saying battle.net password reset, and that wasnt me lol, was weird, only every played a wow trial years ago.
i realy want to try wow after the trial, but i dont want to do it if i just end up loosing my account after i pay like £50 for all the patches
Blizzard very quickly give your account back once some good forms of verification has taken place, they have generally the best customer service. Posts like this are scare mongering if you are concerned about loosing so much buy an authenticator phone or hard copy. Phone is the cheapest and costs less than a small chocolate bar in most countries, if you cannot afford the hard version which is about half a monthly sub to most countries then your a risk taker and shouldnt be playing mmorpgs and should gamble online instead.
Why would Blizzard steal accounts and promote gold farming? It's bad for business. It doesn't make any sense, so I highly doubt it. Please provide some form of proof.
Anyway to the OP, i'd try out the game instead of listening to all the wow haters/lovers on these forums. In the end it's you playing the game, not someone else. You will only find jaded and biased responses here, at best.
Blizzard sacked their previous Chinese management company. If you had the chinese government protecting you, wouldnt you exact some revenge. Heck if you need more examples of corrupt company activities just take a look at oil companies if you delve deep enough it might just make you shiver. How hard is it at a senior level to copy databases onto a USB drive these days, heck my 12 year old son can do it and Id guess he could have done it from 6.
Dont be blind. Even the press have things to say regarding recent compromises there is no smoke without fire EVER.
i will do a trial on wow.... i will make a new email address and no sign anything up to it apart from wow, that shud make it safe enough.... i hope
As long as you keep your computer clean from viruses, keyloggers etc and don't divulge your login information to anyone you shouldn't have any problems. If you like the game i'd suggest getting a authenticator device or if you own a iphone/android the authenticator app (which is free). I have been playing wow on and off for around 5 years now and never had a single problem. Check out this page: http://eu.battle.net/en/security/checklist
i was thinking of starting to play wow, but now i see all these hacking threads in another post, is it realy worth playing if people get hack so easierly... or are these people just stupid, i dont have a wow account yet i still get emails from "blizzard" people, trying to scam. but anyway back to the topic.

altough i quit wow myself a while ago.....i would say its still worth trying if you never played it....you will have a blast if its your first time in wow.
i think you can even try it out for 14 days (i think, not realy sure)
Yes. regardless what the mouthbreathers say in these forums, WoW is still the best and most polished game on the market.
Just a joke I hope. WoW is not most polished game omg, stop saying that bullshit to every player who is asking about WoW. Tell them something more than one freakin word which is even lie.. Maybe try to say why is it most polished or why is it best - and dont tell only number of subscribers..! Thx..
What is the most polished game then in your opinion? Don't just bash his post saying it isn't when you yourself didn't offer anything up.
To stay on topic, though... Yes, WoW is worth playing. It, IMO, isn't as hard as it was before, but thats a matter of opinion. One which wouldn't matter much to a new player. The PvP is fun, despite what people may say, it isn't completely gear dependent. They've changed the brackets so now its easier than ever to compete. Gear only starts to really matter when you hit the top tier, but even then, it doesn't take too long to upgrade, especially if you have been PvP'ing regularly since level 10. As for the hacking problem, it's not THAT bad. But Bad news ALWAYS overshadows Good news about things. I was hacked earlier this year, but thats because I didn't have my computer for a short while and so I played on other peoples computers who had viruses/keyloggers but may not have known it. An authenticator is the BEST investment you can make with the game and that's only 6.50.
Just don't start the game with any expectations and don't try to compare it to another MMO you may have played. You do that, you'll have a LOT more fun with it.

No one of us (unless you have a evil clone) can answer that. Only you can decide if a game is worth playing or not.
As for hacking it is often stupidity but not always. Wow have so many players that it is the main target of hackers, scammers and spammers.
My advice: Read up on all interesting MMOs. Choose the 2 that seems most fun to you (Wow or not) and do the free trials of both games. Then you can logically choose the game that fits you best.
We can only tell you if a game is worth playing for us.

Sadly some WoW addons can make PvP realy weird - like that stuff which tells you someone have you as target or which show you that someone is near you - rogues gotta love it - I found some addons even like this - not sure if it still works. But WoW PvP as many other games is action mostly because so many buttons that you are gona freak out which button you should push next - ofc there is addon which can help you with that. :P
Its true WoW PvP is kinda fun but I dont think that is it for a guy who takes PvP as most important part of the game, cause I do the same. I would actually say that GW is even more "polished", never ever saw an error in it. But to compare the games isn't exactly fair since they are 2 different kinds of games.
Wow is however very good coded (the word polished is somewhat unclear) and Blizzards programmers are the companies largest assets and have been so since Diablo. Wow could never have been this large without them, that is why Wow is huge while the game everyone thought would be the big one, EQ2, lost the race.
Many people underestimate how much a few good programmers do. But it is one of the things that differs between a winner and a failure.
Wows engine is really well coded and anyone objecting is full of BS. "Polished" is however a buzzword invented by marketing.

Well said and well done for calling-out the obvious troll.
However, since Cataclysm, the top level heoics have become quite tricky, easily as tough, if not tougher than vanilla. Getting through them at the moment is quite an achievement, im sure soon enough people will adapt to cope with the changes, but right now, you need good players who know their classes and more importantly, can listen to instruction and understand proper aggro management in a group, more than players with simply good kit.
Case in point, we ran all the heroics recently as a guild and overcame them eventually, another guild on our server, supposedly the top raiding guild, were on the main forums QQing like crazy because they couldn't breeze through the content like they had with previous expansions.
It's been a real breath of fresh air this expansion, it's a major winner in my book
Expresso gave me a Hearthstone beta key.....I'm so happy

Seems to me that none Wow player ever tried to compare any game with WoW.. Yea kidding. :P But there are some like that, nvm.
Sorry about not giving other polished game, ofc there is Ultima Online, EQ 2, Lineage 2, Guild Wars, EvE online - new games are not so polished cause they are new we just gotta w8 - so about comparing, dont compare WoW to new games to old ones its ok to me. And yea probably those games dont have every single feature as WoW has but also! Wow doesnt have every single feature what those games have so there is realy more polish games thatn WoW.
Most problem for me was easy peasy thing at WoW - one dude told me "Dont join guild, dont dowlonad addons, dont get to party than its gona be hard." Which is like - Are you nuts? Its mmo I wanna play with ppl.. Maybe if Blizz has control about Addons (maybe they have some but doesnt seems to me) it could be better but some of em just pull out the fun of the game - and you need them - like that stuff which tells you what skill is boss going to use - realy bad idea.
Btw I mostly say that WoW could be realy cool as original WoW, kinda good as BC and what I've tried so far realy sucky as Wotlk - dont know about Cata.
EDIT: Happy christmas too all of you guys - even if im sometime "jerk" in discussion I just love to discuss stuff - I care about other ppl opinion (even sometimes it appears I dont, sorry about that. )

Might be something to that. A buddy complains that he stopped using the random dungeon finder because every PUG he got with it wiped badly.
I do however have a feeling there will be a lot of whining and things will be back to normal again after a few months. I don't think Activision Blizzard would be willing to loose players because of difficulty.
I have played off and on since it released (nov of 2004) and have never gotten hacked.
Same here.. *touch wood*
Who could have thought that WOW could bring super power like USA to its knees?

Im picking on WoW btw because its the beast that made all of this possible
For those who dont like wow, including me it is not worth playing but there are lots of people playing it and liking it so for those masses of people I guess it is worth it. I have just disliked wow and I did have it from early beta till few months after release.
Now there are several years since I played the game and I figured that I left the game
more for I did not like the people playing the game than the game itself. I will never return to the game anyway.
Don't listen to the anti-trend trendies who love to hate with no backing.
WoW is a great game. I haven't played the expansion so who knows where the game has gone, but WoW has a lot of conent for everyone of varying levels of interest/entertainment.
I'm 99% sure the people that say it was too easy never downed a single hard-mode encounter in 10man much less in 25, or gotten in the top % of their battlegroup in arenas.
If you haven't tried it, you'll probably love it. If you have a girlfriend or school to worry about, careful lol. I exhausted myself with WoW but it's a solid MMORPG.
PS. If you're worried about hacking, get the authenticator. 6 bucks will keep your account 100% secure. I think if you have the smartphone app it's even free. There's no reason to get hacked these days unless you're a complete moron.
Wows engine is really well coded and anyone objecting is full of BS. "Polished" is however a buzzword invented by marketing.
Polished is a word created by gamers to describe how a game plays. And its really not complicated or vague in meaning. Sometimes stupid people assign their own imaginary meaning to it that doesn't fit into the common conception of the word, and then wave it around like a flag pretending that because they've assigned their own meaning to it, that the word is somehow vague.

EDIT: Happy christmas too all of you guys - even if im sometime "jerk" in discussion I just love to discuss stuff - I care about other ppl opinion (even sometimes it appears I dont, sorry about that. )
Played: Lineage 2,Guild Wars 1 and 2, Age of Conan, Ragnarok Online, LOTRO, World of Warcraft, League of Legends, EvE online
Tried: KAL Online, Face of Mankind, ROSE online
Playing: CS:GO
Might be something to that. A buddy complains that he stopped using the random dungeon finder because every PUG he got with it wiped badly.
I do however have a feeling there will be a lot of whining and things will be back to normal again after a few months. I don't think Activision Blizzard would be willing to loose players because of difficulty.
IF your serious about going back to wow.
Create another Email address, create a really silly long password, like
hfehrfueuheufhuevuebubceubnciuebucbeub and i guarantee that account gets hacked soon..
and make sure YOU change it DAILY once you start to log out for the night
thats madness, im not doing that, change my password everyday, im not a "hardcore" gamer, but i do play a fair few hours a week.
surely ppl dnt get hacked for nothing tho, that seems so silly.

......

Have fun plying and love your playmates.
