leveling in rift is too fast

ethionethion Member UncommonPosts: 2,888

Another thing I'm kinda worried about is that leveling is too fast in rift.  During a single weekend I leveled a character from 1-20.  Maybe 12 hours of playtime?  The concern is that in 12 hours I've leveled through almost half the level range?  It isn't like they can really tweak it to slow it down since I did all the quests in the zone.  So if they decrease the xp then you will be left with nothing but grinding rifts to level and while that is fun being forced to do that to level would probably not be fun.

Is anyone else who played beta concerned?  I really didn't focus on leveling speed either.  I did a lot of crafting and harvesting stuff.  I think my harvesting skills were close to 100 and my crafting was capped at 75 I believe.  I guess if you really focused on leveling you could cut the time down from 12 hours considerably....

By contrast I created a new character in wow, one of the new worgon.  I didn't do much in the way of harvesting or crafting and pretty much just focused on leveling.  I got to lvl 20 in around 11 hours.  So right off the bat in wow I can see I'll have a lot more gameplay time since 20/85 vs 20/50 in the roughly the same time and I suspect that if I focused more on leveling I could have cut it down to less then 8 hours.

I'm not a vet and I can't imagine how you can level from 1-44 in wow doing quests.  I don't think I could run that fast or kill that fast :P  I had a quest helper and ran the quests reasonably fast.  I did do some skinning but not much and stayed pretty focused on questing.  I could imagine maybe knocking an hour or two off my 11 hour journey from 1-20 but no way I can imagine how you can get from 1-44 in 11 hours.  But if you can do that in wow you can probably do it in rift... so you might finish the game in one weekend.  Point is for me it took about the same amount to level in both games.  I would also say I could easily have leveled faster in rift then in wow.

Right now it might be a bit fast to level but they have also been tweaking the experience gain for mob kills and quest rewards.  Im sure those that want to could level fast no matter what but if your not going straight for end game the time it takes to level isnt all that bad.  And like i said they are and have been adjusting things so this may very well change.

    LOLWTFBBQ?

"Waaaa Waaaa game is too grindy... to slow" now "whaaaa whaaaaa game is too fast"?

WTF guyz, get a grip, there´s crafting, rifts, quest, lore, instances, raids, and pvp (yet to disclose) so wtf already complaing about a game in BETA? TOO FAST? 20 in 2 days is damn good, wth guyz, your supposed to focus on the fun your having with it, not how fast you can e-peen your lvl race with others ¬¬

    now: GW2 (11 80s).

It might be a little too premature to say if that's too fast or not.  At the fastest pace you could probably hit 1-20 in 7 hours or so on Rifts, but there is no telling what the leveling curve might be like at later levels.  1-20 could takes as long as 20-25 for instance, and 45-50 could be like doing 1-20 10 times over.

Look at FFXIV for example.  1-20 could easily be done in 5 hours.  45-50 could take almost a full month of 5 hours a day grinding.

wow... In no way did I race through the game.  I ran around every inch of the game.  I maxed out harvesting and crafting.  I did a ton of rifts etc.  I did not get to do the dungeon because I basically didn't have time after I hit 20 to do the dungeon.

I don't think they can adjust the xp unless we end up with some god aweful mess like champions where the decrease the xp from quests dramatically and then suddenly people level up to the point where there are no doable quests....

I'm raising a concern from my gameplay.  When I got home from work on the first day of beta.  I logged in at around 6pm and the world opened at 10am.  There were already level 20 players riding around on mounts.  So my epeen isn't so good.  I think that more hard core people can probably get to 20 in a few hours.

I think that is a legitimate concern.

Just a quick comment.  An exponential curve for xp to level would mean that additional levels won't come so quickly.  It might slow down as levels get higher.
