People who wonder about MO. If you want to know the real truth about the game do not read the forums here or over at Mortal Online. I am a long time player and I have seen lies and exaggeration on both sites, or the plain old deleting of said truth or non truth.
If you would like an up to date minute by minute status of the state of the game go hang out in the IRC for an hour or 2. That is where it is hard to moderate what is said and things can not be deleted or unsaid. Plus that is where the devs usually give the first word of what is going on. Fanboys get laughed at for over fanboying and trolls get told to gtfo.
There is a lot of people on here commenting good and bad about the game who don't even play.
Comments
OP actually is right. MO IRC people in vast majority are vets playing from the beginning and are answering questions quickly and honestly.
i'v played MO at launch for about 3 months. i'v seen many threads here and on the official MO forums and i must say that most of them are true. sure some posts were very very negative, angry and right down ignorant but 90% of it it has happened and i'v experianced it myself. most of the threads actualy paint a very realistic picture of MO, perhaps not of how it is now but definately of what it has gone throug. the ammount of broken things in this game has been astaunding and this is coming from a player that still likes MO dispite all that.
SV has done many, many questionable things with the game and the comunity and people should be aware of this. is the game fun? yes. is it polished? hell no. is it a great game? for a very small minorty of people, but for most of us it's just too broken right now. it is definately a very different game from most mmos out there and it can be really fun if you are into that sort of thing but it does have many many problems that just never seem to get fixed.
just my 2 cents.
95% of all bad things people say about MO are true.
Did they fix the issue that I hated the most? First I will explain the issue for me that broke the camels back.
In ( I think Morin Kur ) there is a large area of crafting tables for converting minerals and metals. There is an area above this location that a person could shoot you with a bow and the "guard" command didn't work. This area was one of the only areas for this particular set of workbenches and players with overpowered bows would one or two shot you while crafting with no reprocution due to the bug with no guards comming.
Also did they change the skills around yet? Seemed like there were alot of overly complicated skills needed to make something. I pretty much had to dedicate all my points into being an or hauler and refiner and had no points left to defend myself or make armor or weapons.
Another thing. Have they added other things to the skill system to make it more like Ultima? There were a ton of choices of skills in UO and when I played Mortal Online after release for a month or two they were really slow in putting in changes and the bugs they supposedly fixxed kept popping up again.
I was a fanboy of the game before release and backing the game and its developers and did the long beta and put in my money for the case and disk that arrived at my door step and turned out to already be an outdated version of the game that was no good.
I still have hope for this game and promised myself I would check back periodically in the hopes it might eventually reach the direction it was trying to head in. When I stopped playing I gave it a prediction of 1 to 2 years before it would get to a good point with such a small developement crew.
Can you tell me since it sounds like you are actively playing, what exactly has changed since the 2 month mark from release thru to today?
before i list the changes mo has recieved i will first tell you that some of the problems you have with the games skill system are a part of the game. They wont be changed. It comes down to if you wanna craft you can and if you wanna fight you can but if you want to be the best crafter then you character will need to dedicate all his skills into crafting. if you just want to be able to make some basic armour or weps and still kill things that is also possble but you will always have to juggle your 1k max skill points.
.Butchery- creatures no longer drop resource they drop a corpse which must be processed to get the resource, for example a springbok corpse weighs 12kg you can skin it on the spot but recieve very little of the resource or take it to a butchery bench and skin it or get someone to skin it.
Fishing- fishing is added to the game, you buy a rod a hook and some line then you can fish, what you catch is determined by hook, line, skill points, depth, location rod and abit of luck. You basically have to tug the lnie to atract fish then pull the line when you get a bite. Its probably the most advanced fishing system in any mmo.
Tutors- Tutors are new npcs who give your character skills based on what they specialise in, these tutors are there to replace the proffession system, instead you stsrt with no skills but almost all skills are now gained by performing the action. So if you jump you will discover jumping, if you hit something with a sword you will discover swords etc.
Skill books- skill books now only come in 1 type, basic a basic book can teach you to 70 skill points no book will go higher than 70 so the rest of ponits must be gained throguh using the skill.
Pickables- many new pickables added to the game, sulfur, bor, salt, calamine, mushrooms etc. Most are reagents for magery.
Epic patch- the visuals have recieved a huge overhall, now mo is one of the best looking mmos on the market graphically. The game now also utilises Speedtree.
Animations- the new animations are really special, replacing the 1 handed combat mining and lumberjacking. Lots of new emotes to including sitting down.
Combat balance- combat balance has improved now people are using a bigger variety of weapons, spears, axes sledgehammers swords and bows are common.
Desync and prediction system- the desync is muchly improved and the prediciton system means no more flying up into the air players or odd movements etc. The game feels much smoother and playable.
there are 2 types of mmo, imitators and innovaters.
If SV really wanted people to know the "truth" about MO they'd offer a real free trial.
I hardly find IRC a reliable source of information... SV has stated numerous time anything said in IRC isnt official and its just another outlet for SV to continue their "viral marketing" strategy.
But, I do invite anyone to spend a few hours in IRC to get a feel for MOs "community".
I win!!! LOL@U
Stopping the heavy censorship on forums would surely be a good start..
For context, I've had more posts deleted from this forum than that one. I know I'm a delusional fanboy so they don't need to censor me, but there's a helluva lot of criticism that doesn't disapear... honestly, of all the posts I've read that were since deleted, there's only one that made me go "why did that get deleted?"... most of them were absurd rumor-mongering, flaming, or trolling from the same few people.
I do not think most of you understood what I said. What I was saying is if you want to hear what is going on in MO from the players mouth as it is happening go sit in the IRC for an hour or two. I have seen fanboys, and trolls lie about the game in here and in the MOFO. For instance. Alot of trolls talk about bugs like they are still happening that have been fixed. And I see fanboys talk about bugs that are not fixed like they are fixed. Understand?
For instance trolls talk about the city that disapeared. That was in the game for a day and fixed ove a month ago.
And I have seen fanboys say desync is fixed. And that is a clever little sarcasm. because yes desync is fixed. But the interpolation and detection system is fucked. And most people think that the problem is called desymc. So instead of a fanboy actually saying "I am sorry friend it is not desync that is the problem it is the detection system". They would rather say stop trolling troll. "Failed" still kills people. And for people who are not playing "failed" is you just riding a long and all of a sudden you get a messages saying "failed" is hitting you. And you still get hit from 10 feet away. That is one of the things that is going to make me quit the game. I hate dying to no one and getting hit from 10 feet away.
So you will see players pop into IRC to talk about mechanics they like or mechanics that is hurting them from playing the game. Give it a try.
There is a thread here on the official forums where Henrick actually admits that the lag/interpolation issues are caused on his end and that they will try (again) to fix them after the vacation:

Negative feedback is usually a bunch of nonsense however i like to read it over to get an idea of what people dont like and do like about a game, gives a bunch more insight to whats in it you know?
Most negative feedback i cant even finish reading their entire post because its just a bunch of hate, but i get enough out of it to get a general idea.
I love DCUO and there was tons of hate feedback on that when i was checking it out.

I'm sure this also is a bunch of nonsense huh?

This is feedback from active players.
There are a lot of things that I like about the game and really just one thing I hate. . that is still not fixed. . . pets.
This is negative but certainly not nonsense.
A new patch (Christmas one) and you still can't cross nodes with a pet? Or rather can't again. . because it has been fixed and broken a tonne of times.
I was thinking of resubbing after the next patch (I have played on and off again) but now I think I will wait until at least 3 large back to back patches in which pets are not broken in some way. The servers maybe stable. . and the game for the most part. . the patching. . not so much.

Any reason why you did not posted the thread itself as well?
Why? Does it matter? Thread itself was humorous. Basically OP was asking if this was Henrik because of the way picture looks like a flying knight. Sad reality is that its just a common bug along with horrible graphics due to lazy design.
Here is the thread, just for you
http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/57143-henrik.html
Actually, it does matter more then you think. Look at the date on the screenshot its 19-10-2010. Wouldn't posting that SS and implying that issue is still in game go under rumormongering?
Its is in fact still in game.
What would you call slandering a post without providing anything to dispute it? Would you mind providing proof that it was fixed?
Everyone knows pets are screwed up, its mentioned daily on the forums and flying is hardly anything new.
I win!!! LOL@U
LOL.
The guy posts a two and a half month old picture as current "proof", and gets caught intentionally trying to decieve other people, but it's still valid?
In most places, that's called a lie.
In all honesty, there are still some annoying problems with pet control in the game. But this ain't one of them.
The rumormongering continues.
LOL.
Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.
Could you provide the 'fact' you are talking about now? You know, the valid and real one for a change.
You are asking for proof that something doesn't exist (hard to prove) while suggesting it does exist. . which should be easier to prove. I think the burden lies on you with this one. The last time I played floating characters do indeed exist. The only way someone could prove you wrong, which you know, is to post a SS of someone on the ground which you would likely call lucky.
Give us a current screen shot or thread that mentions or shows someone floating.
Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!
Is there such a thing as a "long time MO Player?"
Any time in MO feels like a lifetime. The game hasnt been out long enough.
I win!!! LOL@U
Actually, i'd be looking through the game's patch notes for the last 3 months. If it was mentioned anywhere that:
*Fixed an issue with flying mounts
Then I would assume the issue was fixed until a new screenshot of a flying mount appeared. If no such fix were announced, I would assume the issue still existed until a dev posted otherwise. I'm just an outsider, though, so I don't know what has/hasnt been said or patched. I don't think however that they would patch such an issue and not list it somewhere.
I don't play this game anymore and I don't intend to but no people aren't floating.
I know at some point they said that it should be greatly reduced. After this there were some minor issues of it when you first logged in as you synched up with the server. but after that I didn't see it once.
I believe it was mentioned in threads but not he patch notes and was considered "stability" etc. It wasn't just mounts. . it was players in general. You would be fighting a guy and watch him float off over the edge of a cliff while still swinging and running backwards. Again, I have not seen this sinse they "claimed" it would be fixed as it seems to have been fixed.
