I wonder if they'll start spewing the same crap that "We're a new cryptic" and "We learned our lesson" if they survive long enough to see nwn make it to market. Pray for vaporware.
I take it you missed Emmert's interviews when he started talking about the upcoming NWN game? Those lines have already been used.
"Oh my, how horrible, someone is criticizing a MMO. Oh yeah, that is what a forum is about, looking at both sides. You rather have to be critical of anything in this genre as of late because the track record of these major studios has just been appalling." -Ozmodan
Your boring me bud, why are you even on this site if you do not care about ratings? Why arent you playing one of the older mmorpgs on the bottom then if it doesnt matter? I find that most of the time ratings do matter when it comes to mmorpgs it can easily tell you allot.
Think the better question is why are you on this site. Stop peddeling games that are worthless. You are not winning anybody over with it.
The only thing you have demonstrated in this thread is you have a piss poor taste in games. Not really something you should throw little tantrums at the rest of us for.
It's customary to hate everything in this board...if you look at any forum on this board they're all full of hate. It's like MMO-masochist convention...They hate MMOs so much yet they cant let them go because it feels sooo good to torture themselves with doing something they hate.

Actually I would say if your posting anywhere on the forums on this site then your probably not a happy camper with the mmo, or mmo's taht your not playing, and thus given to an attitude of I really dont like that. There really is I really dont like xxx mmo.
So it is amazing to me how many folks hate mmo's, and are not playing them.

I guess he's using them again because he said the exact same things after the whole champions debacle and right before sto was getting ready to go live. I guess we'll be seeing more "limited (until they go on the cstore)" collectors editions and limited time lifetime subs before nwn goes live too. I don't see this leopard changing his spots.

Then again, you could also be using the website to keep tabs on upcoming MMOs while you are between games. The thing that gets me is the 'hate' tag; that suggests a level of emotional attachment to a game that in many cases is just not there. I am disappointed with what Cryptic released, but I certainly don't hate them or the game. Checking these forums once or twice a day isn't really a big deal, nor is posting about any game (either for or against).
Are there people who post that actually do hate Crypic and STO (Wow and Blizzard, etc.)? Of course there are, just as there are people who rabbidly defend a game/game company and cannot admit that it has any problems at all. As for your last line, let's flip it a bit:
"So it is amazing to me how many folks love mmo's, and are not playing them."
If people don't like a game, then they're going to discuss it. After all, that is the point in these forums. In a similar vein, people who are enjoying a game are going to be spending their time playing it. So yeah, people who dislike MMO X will tend to post more than people who like it and are playing the game. That's the same for a game's official forums as it is on websites like these.
As a final thought: Given how horrible the last few years have been for MMOs, and 2010 in particular, is really any wonder that posts are more negative than positive?
"Oh my, how horrible, someone is criticizing a MMO. Oh yeah, that is what a forum is about, looking at both sides. You rather have to be critical of anything in this genre as of late because the track record of these major studios has just been appalling." -Ozmodan

I'm not entirely sure of that: I think they may have at least learned their lessson on not labelling what they produce as AAA MMOs anymore, hence the O.M.G. tag they're using now. Then again, there is that 'dinosaur themed MMO' there are rumors about. On one hand it could just be the gaming journalists' tendency to slap the MMO tag on just about anything, including games which clearly aren't (such as APB or WoT). Then again perhaps it will be a full-fledged MMO, instead of an Online Multi-player Game; in that case, we'll have to see how they handle it.

I have yet to read a review that actually explains what they do not like in the game except lack of content which is not even much of an issue anymore, there is plenty of content for any new players, and its suppose to be a casual mmorpg, you can easily say cox has little content because there missions look allot of the same and there stories are simple and not all that complex atleast the story in star trek online is a bit more interesting.
Now the game is not perfect but could someone please explain to me how cox is any differant other then the setting? It is still one of the higher rated settings, I have yet to have any issues with ground combat, it could use some improvement but its far from bad and still remains fun, maybe you guys need to try some more versatile builds, if anything it looks like the game is part sandbox part amusment park, therefor it is up to the player to build there captain to be more fun.
Now granted I have not played it enough, but to call a mmorpg a bad mmo just because someone gets through the content who plays 16 hours a day is just ignorant.
I just do not see the problem here. I have played allot of mmorpgs and this is a great mmo for pve, I find it a hek of allot more fun then lotro and cox.
Ok, I'll bite, But before I do, I'll re-iterate that I am a Lifetime subscriber, currently playing the game and hoping it'll survive long enough to improve. So, here's a bullet-point list (couldn't be bothered doing a full review) of what's wrong with STO.
1. Terrible launch - still an issue since it means the subscriber base is now a mere shadow of it's peak which slows development of new content. Nothing Cryptic can do about this now - it's a permanent feature of the game.
2. Ground combat - slow, mechanical, tedious and repetitive. Slated for an overhaul in Season 4, which can't come soon enough or do enough to fix this.
3. Poor customer service - in-game GM's seem completely incapable of helping a player in any way whatsoever. I have submitted 4 tickets now dealing with bugs or other issues and not once where the GM's capable of helping in any way at all. I wonder now what is even the point of contacting them. In EVERY other MMO I've played GM's have been able to fix most bug issues, if even only by administratively advancing my character beyond the bug to allow for completion of the mission/quest etc.
4. Repetitve gameplay - many named missions and pretty much all the randomly generated ones reek of an attempt to draw the mission time out with repeated content. Thus, when exploring I find I have to kill 5 squadrons of ships (3 of which will be perfectly identical) or collect 5 samples, or kill 6,282 ground mobs (and yes, ground combat is massively drawn out with near endless supplies or near or perfectly identical trash mob groups a la The Cure).
5. Lack of content for Vice Admirals. There's almost a dozen dailies and half that in raids, and that's about it.
6. Lack of PvE content for almost any level Klingon. True, it's being corrected as they go along, but Klingons launched in a shockingly bad state and still have a long way to go to be fixed.
7. Lack of a Star Trek feel - again I'll conceede that this is being worked on, but (the last movie notwithstanding) Star Trek isn't about "seeking out new life....and blowing the crap out of it", which is what STO's near constant state of combat makes it feel like.
So, it's this the worst MMO ever? Not by a long shot, but is it a great MMO? Not even close. Not yet. Only my deep and abiding nerd-love of all things Trek keeps me in it at the moment, and the faint glimmer of hope that Cryptics strenuous efforts to improve it will allow me to someday honestly call this a great MMO.

Those were the same exact feelings I had on all of your points. I admire your optimism with the future of the game; but, I myself remain a skeptic of all things. I look at the history of MMORPGs and I can't really recall the names of any MMORPGs that failed in so many ways that STO has, that actually turned out great years after release. Who knows, maybe they have some hardcore developers who vowed to cleanse the world of their sins; only time will tell I suppose and I'm not waiting around to see. There are too many interesting titles on the horizon, for me to waste all my efforts expecting a miracle to come out of this disaster.

what people dont realize about this game is that you can buy star trek fleet command 2 or 3 and get a much better game than sto with out paying the monthyly fee. lots more ships races and everything.
Originally posted by Wrender Single player mmo, no grouping, no crafting, Casual to the extreme. I am a casual player I guess but I really cringe when I hear the word casual in todays MMO description.. Oh did I mention only 50 players to a shard?? WTF? Should be a free to play game.
Exactly.
For as good of an IP as Star Trek is... under no circumstances should a MMO based upon Star Trek be "casual" in it's design OR gameplay.
Most people just don't get, or refuse to get, that simple idea.

Nothing fun about this. I mean seriously, the above poster who said that Starfleet Command did this over 10 years ago. They did it BETTER, smarter, and more interesting-ly. I just don't understand with all the promise this game had, how you could fumble this bad.
Oh wait, I'm a Redskin's fan. I understand heartbreak all too well.
I have stated in many threads that I love STO. I also agree with many others that it still needs a lot of work. it IS getting better but it is also taking a long time to get there. I don't want to sound mean but I think a good majority of the negative press is by folks that wanted to play klingons. They really did get the shaft and frankly I think STO should have pulled them out until they were ready. It might have helped on the negative press. I am a lifetime subscriber so as long as the game keeps going, I know it will just get better.

If it's getting better , it's very slowly . The main reason ? The majority of the Dev staff has been moved to Cryptics other projects. So after almost a year since release, the content release amount has been minimal compared to other MMO's .
Frankly it wasn't that hard to turn it into an MMO , they had good templates to use ( Granted they couldn't copy them ) . As someone mention SFC series , Klingon Academy , Bridge Commander , Elite Force , etc... They chose CO reskinned. What does that tell you ? The only things they need to give any real thought to was crafting and the economy.
They chose easy , quick and cheap and half a game. They even admit it. They value the customer so much , they laughed all the way to the bank on all the LT and extended time subs. The LT subs are stuck , they really don't have anywhere to go . We get it, it is kinda lonely watching a game nose diving , with that thought in your head " why did I buy a LT ? ( in some cases multiple, lmao ) ". In most case misery doesn't love company , contray to popular belief . This game has not improved nearly enough to get people to resub , nor will it for at least three years at this rate. At that point it may not be around or it'll be F2P.
