I played a bit, then recently clicked on the email for free 10 days to retry it.

Funcom instantly took a 12 month sub from my credit card and refused to refund it.

Even with a 12 month now i still dont play conan alot.

It's nice and fun to level up but when you get to the cap its just plain boering and doesnt feel worth the grinding at all... can level 1-80 in a few days and then its all  ZzzZzZZZzzzz

As most people have pointed out before it lacks endgame content. Or rather it lacks Meaningfull content at max level. I played it a long time ago so I cant say that it hasent changed. But the Engine of the game has some fatal flaws. Also the HEAVY Instancing of the game world breaks the hole game. Have 48 versions of one zone just makes the game feel lIke URGH crap to me. Also it has become Gear orientated, or so I have heard. Back in the day it was SKILLS... that won you the figths now its Über gear.. same as every other mmo around. AOC isent diffrent enough from the competion and there are games that are alot better in the Genre so why play it??

That is the main reason people dont play these COPY PASTE GAMES, Warhammer online (crap game world design, crap combat etc etc, AION (china grind, grind grind) AOC (inovating but broken combat, INstance, Instance and more Instance), Vanguard ( do I even have to go into details), LOTRO (PVE only, almost, FREE to use cash SHOP) CHampions online (shallow, Crap endgame etc etc) I can keep listing games but If you want all the things done better you can Play WoW... so why should people bother with these games when they just offer up a lesser experince then World of warcraft??

EvE on the other hand gives the player another typ of experince and that is why it like World of Warcraft keeps growing. And developers should stop making COPY games and make a new Game instead....

This is what I felt after playing AoC. The overall design is good but like so many recent MMOs where the focus is on questing I kept wishing it was a single player RPG. If looked at that way the Tortage section is excellent and worthy of standing as it's own game I think. I get the same feeling from World of Warcraft now as well. Same with Champions Online recently. Many MMOs released lately on their own merits aren't bad when you get past some bugs and server issues. It's just that many of them I feel aren't worth an extra $15 each month.

There is always Fallout 3 and the Elders Scrolls games to take care of this desire but their worlds are so barren at times.

The raids are fun and the expansion was nice. The planned content sounds good to. I have played Aion and beta tested Rift, DCU, and others but never found a replacement for this game......So my question is why don't you play? ....Poor PC ? Sour from launch ? Not enough advertising or hype ?

I think not many people play the game due to it's naming: The name 'Age of Conan' makes it sound like one of those cheap 2D games that use half-naked pixel chicks to attract horny gamers. In fact, that's what I thought it was when I saw the advert. But now that you've actually described it to me, I think I might give it a try image naked breasts doesn't sound bad at all image

breasts aside ... i think this game have/had alot of things that was nice ... oh man after playing this game no other mmo felt so nice to play because of the aoc combat system ... i think other mmos combat is so boring now ..  :(

The game is shit because end game pvp is ganking the same 3 people in Khesh over and over again.

  • baldernonobaldernono Member UncommonPosts: 96

I don't know why all people stopped playing.

However i will tell you mine. It is quite simple.

    - dungeon :

    1. some are instancied some not, i still don't understand

    2. before, dungeon were quite easy, high level people came to farm (so problem for others). now there are very difficult, even a 20 level lower than you mob can solo you...More over, a group of same level cannot do the dungeon, all people has to be at least 10 level over (specially tank) to success : always strange to fight grey named mob..

    - zoning :

    1. i am a fan of non zoning efffect : way to many and long zoning in AoC (very beautiful tho)

Maybe all these things has changed because i playd at release for about 6 month but here was my reasons.

  • Cody1174Cody1174 Member Posts: 271

I played it for 3 months at launch, I dealt with the bugs and the grind after level 50.

When the endgame, guild cities, and pvp was broken I just moved to Warhammer... which also lacked the same thing.

  • patient32patient32 Member UncommonPosts: 96

Ah man when people mention Vanguard I get all emotional.

Ah Vanguard...... We hardly knew ye...........

If Vanguard could somehow integrate the EQ2 game engine (some of you will know the bits I mean) Vanguard would be King and I would gladly pay my monthly tithe

Vanguard:.... And behold.... A pale horse.......... And a zillion hellishly crap mmos followed with it!

"It's like a finger pointing away to the moon... Don't concentrate on the finger or you'll miss all the heavenly glory" (Bruce Lee)

(Insert your favourite mmo here): ......And behold, a pale horse.... And a million hellishly bad mmos followed with it.

LOLOL, as far as game jumping goes, I did the exact same thing.

I was kidding about the breasts dude... But when I get the chance I will really give it a try. It sounds good.

This game is very linear, I found the lvling extremely boring. Also it doesn't seem like they have made that many changes to the game since launch.

In short the game isn't very good in most peoples minds.

I think aoc is a good game, not a great game and not a failure like some claim, it just could never hold my attention.

I played AoC at launch, grinded my way past the huge content holes in the 30’s 50’s and 75+ to get to 80 and had nothing to do. I stopped playing a month or two after launch

I went back 5 or so months later when funcom announced new content and a ton of bug fixes but I really returned to the same game

I recently went back to try the rise of the god slayer to see a ton of new content, the content gaps where fixed but it seemed that most of the high level content was repeatable quests and I personally hate the( log on do the same quests I did the day before, log off , log on do the same quests, log off, )treadmill and using it as the major amount  of content is lazy

I started AOC 3mo. after launch, hit level 50 just when they added Ymir's pass for  levels 50 to 60. So my experiance wasn't too bad. The leveling is linear, but quick as you want it to be. They have made a ton of changes since launch. The new expansion area has many challenging 6man dungeons, and the 4th tier of 24man raid dungeon. Getting gear in this zone is a bit grindy, but not really more so than getting raid gear from previous tiers. Easily one of the best pve mmos available today.

Class balance 1v1 was allways an issue, maybe allways will be(any game?). Version 1.05 hit pvp hard. Previously  gear didn't mean much, skill, and build was king, but pve'ers complained (ritefully so) "why are we doing these raids when the gear doesn't help your character?" After 1.05 gear was a much stronger factor. PVP content was also a back burner priority.

You will need a good pc to run AOC, and a very good one to run the expansion at max settings(which are sweet). This fact leaves alot of gamers excluded. Even with the best rig there can be lagspikes, and disconnects, but have been greatly reduced over time.

I think AOC is a fun game to play, and has spoiled me a bit with its' combat, and graphics. If it had launched in todays' condition, it would be huge. Maybe one of MMO's greatest "might have been" storys. Still needs PVP overhaul of some kind. No end of suggestions on the forums.

PVE servers are doing ok, but pvp servers are a bit low in population.

I think free trials are allways available for the first 20 levels (can't leave Tortage tho). So it doesn't cost anything to see if you can run it on your pc. Oh yeah, if you want to play the end game content you're going to have to know your class very well, be able to move,  and keep an eye on the mob's actions. Not super difficult, but not easy, takes good gamers to win "hard mode" for the best loot.

AOC is kind of sad game for me.

Was very excited about it , bought it. But i could not get it to work because my ISP was somehow messing with AOC servers (recognising it as torrent or something)

When I got it sorted several months after. Nobody was playing it anymore. My guild left and it had real bad reputation.

And I allredy got into WAR.

As for now, I have it installed - but could not get myself to pass even the free Tortage part. Really dont see myself paying subscription there.

Rumour is the game is heading towards F2P , perhaps for the best

I played at launch for like a year, and liked it.

But, I was missing full loot PvP and no instances, and then Darkfall Online was released :D

So now, I have been playing Darkfall Online for almost 2 years and I do not see another MMO that can replace that adrenaline rush it provides !

Maybe, but it got advertised as a carnagefest with naked breasts, and even your own OP mentions that stereotype again.

Not that many people are interested in carnagefests.

That's probably true. As what the other poster indicated that they were not fans of the setting.

The one thing I think they did 'more right' was to make it bloody and more like the pulp fiction roots that conan grew from.

But then that does narrow their playerbase a bit. image

Err ... Pulp Fiction roots ?

Conan originates in the stories of Robert E. Howard.

I would definitely play a game, be it MMO or singleplayer, about the world described in these stories. Its a rich and exciting fantasy setting, much like the Forgotten Realms or the Star Wars universe.

But they made an online shooter with three races out of it. I'm a roleplayer, so I'm really not interested in such a tasteless destruction of the original setting.

IMO, people dont play because once you play through the content there is nothing else to do. PVP is pointless, raids are repetitive, Godslayer is all grind. A unique combat system and good graphics is not enough to make you log in every day. So people go back to their favorite games, or move on to new ones. There is a reason people stay with EVE or Darkfall or other sandboxy games and thats because play has meaning there, and its challenging.

Thousands left when the rampant gem duping was going on. Also poor pve raid system lock out timer bs. Exploitable city geometry / walls / rocks soured end game pvp along with zone lock outs.

Once many from top guilds leave, the rest follow and servers die fast.

    lol cuz it sucks!!!!!

When I played I found PVP totally imbalanced.  It was horrible.  No fun at all.  Im not crying abou tit but a low level necro in no way could take anyone out.  The 30 seconds it took for your Dots to do any damage didnt matter when you could be burst damage killed in 3 seconds.

I hated Tortage.  I hated everything about it.  It was a single player game.  You did Tortage for every character.  it made starting new characters a lesson in not losing your shit on tedium.

I hated the itemization.  I enjoy looking forward to new gear and to going and doing things for new gear.  Yea yea yea. Gearscore.  I dont play wow.  I spent how many days getting my jboots or FBSS in EQ1? Anyone remember a full crusty suit in 99?  That was the shit.  Fine steel weapons? I like a nice trinket.  Getting that trinket gives me a reason to play and I feel some accomplishment when my stats increase by 2 percent.  You dont care about gear?  Thats fine.

I hated how my Necro was wearing a burlap sack when he left Tortage.  I hated how twenty levels later he was wearing another burlap sack.   I hated how skimpy dressed the melee characters looked.  I dont want to see homoerotic porn.  I tend to like high fantasy.  I like my tanks wearing plate. Nice, shiny, shimmering plate.  It looks badass, not a thong and sandles.

I will never play another game that has naked boobs.  I want boobs I can tab out and wack it to asian porn. I like asians. Yay for i7 and lots of ram.  If you actually take the time to put boobs in your game, it really shows where your head is at.  You wasted alot of man time on that gimmick.  AoC just proved your game might suck.

I thought the graphics and animations were great.  I think they are brilliant.  I really appreciated the care that went into how my guy ran or swung a sword.  I just hated everything else.

I do not play AoC because it needs FPS latency but has MMORPG latency.  This brings about the running cirlces phenomina that you see.

I also do not enjoy the combo system.  It's neat at first, but to have to do it everytime just is a pain that I can do without.

Basically in order to bring melee up to casters in AoC they just keep making them OP then nerfing them, over and over.

  • WarmakerWarmaker Member UncommonPosts: 2,246

Is it still where Melee and Bows / Crossbows still had to do a combo system while Magic didn't?

I always thought that was funny once I tried AOC at launch.

The disastrous launch is a big reason, especially after how the old GD Gaute overhyped and under delivered.  Hell, they didn't even have DX10 working, even though it was on the box, and that was the least of the missing/broken features.  Many people had a massive memory leak problem with the game and it would crash constantly, depending how many load screens you had in a short period of time.  What's funny is that I didn't have this problem at first, but after a patch that was supposed to fix it, I started getting it.

I gave it a second chance when the 1.05 patch went live.  It was definitely improved, but I still didn't like:

---all the instances/load screens.  They'll never fix this.

---zones were too small and linear.  Too many invisible walls.  I couldn't walk up a small hill, but I could swim up a waterfall...WTF?  To be fair, after playing STO, AoC zones seem huge.

---crafting sucked.  What made it worse was having to belong to a guild with a city for some high end recipes.

---gathering sucked.  Many recipes required ultra rare components that you come up empty getting even after farming nodes for hours.  There also were so many resources and so little bank space, I had to make alts just to hold all the crap.

---melee combat sucked.  Having to hit multiple keys to execute one attack is not my idea of fun.  What was worse is if a step in the chain missed for whatever reason, your damage dropped significantly.  Casters didn't have this problem.

---community was God awful.  At the time, there wasn't even a LFG channel, and if you wanted to find a group, you had to subject yourself to global channel.  To quote another franchise "you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy".
