I'm looking into this game. The beta was a bit underwhelming, but some of the changes sound good, and the temp FTP helps. I loved FF XI, but my main problem with it was the time commitment. As a working parent of two, my free time comes in bursts. Once or twice a week, I could devote several hours, but in most cases I'd only have 30-90 minutes. In FF XI, that simply was not enough time to do anything. Whether assembling a party or even just getting to a zone or traveling back to town. It's why I ultimately quit.
So, does FF XIV require those large blocks of time? For me, only two MMOs fit that time frame, WoW and CoH. I'd prefer a game with more depth, though. But...it's got to be one that I'll actually be able to play in my free time.
Thanks!

That's kinda' what this game is all about right now. You don't need much time at all to get some progress done.
To be the best, you must help each other become the best.
FFXI Character: Satimasu
FFXI Server: Valefor
FFXIV Character: Tamorae Fonteil
Yeah, not a problem. This isn't a game where you need to spend hours looking for a group, cuz you can't do anything otherwise. There is a TON of solo content.
It sure works with 30 - 90 Minutes in case of crafting and leves. Recently had the same problem when worked on late shifts hardly managed to log in so it sort of balanced pretty well out with the leves and the crafting. Not to mention that I ended up to have suddenly way more Anima.
Yeah that's fine. I only have a small time per week to play and I get that feeling of progression.
You are only ever goign to want to play this game in short bursts, untill u decide it isnt worth playing at all.
I love snails.
I love every kinda snail.
I just want to hug them all, but I cant.
Cant hug every snail.
Could you be a little more specific? What kind of solo content? What exactly are you doing?
Leves can be easily completed in 10-15 minutes. Even if the unexpected happens and you have to quit in the middle of a leve, you only earn gil and items for their completion, so you won't lose any progress in terms of XP.
Well if you get the guardian's favour during a leve then it does help exp wise.
Have they improved the game from what it was at launch? Press said it was one of the worst releases in a while.
Yes, but not enough.
Yes, but let me make this analogy for you. Its still crap, but it doesn't smell as bad as it did when it came out.
It's more like spraying Febreeze in a bathroom. The room ends up smelling like someone pooped in a flower bed.
