Eta.Carinea writes: Having played this game now for 4.5 years, on my character Eta Carinea I can honestly say its been money well spent. There is simply not another MMO like it out, or at least no other MMO has held my attention for this amount of time.
Graphics 9 - EvE has always had excellent graphics back in 2005 when I first un-docked from a station I was impressed I have seen some graphic upgrades since then which has always been a step in the right direction.
Sound 7 - I feel barely qualified to answer this question as most of the time I have sound off, when its been turned on I have barley noticed it. The jukebox should be considered with its own original works that you can listen too.
Role Playing 8 - Its not my thing but I have had some interesting conversations in low sec, with individuals. I gravitated towards piracy and that has room for lots of role play that I have dipped into and out off. Role play has provided me with some interesting times over the years. There are Role Playing dedicated sovereignty owning corps, which provide role players with all the material you could want. With the upcoming changes this I suspect will get better I have scored it as I see it now though.
Value 9 - It's ok euro's are not the best currency for conversion from a UK perspective but that has come about recently when I started it used to be in our favour.
Fun 8 - Interesting one this, EvE is difficult to mark in terms of fun. If you get into the right corporation with good leadership, corporation mates who are mature and indeed contain people you want to spend some time with EvE will transcend fun. Even the long times spent camping enemies in a station can be a storm in those circumstances. However, EvE can also leave you completely demotivated at times, it can be incredibly repetitive more so then many others. Mining is an excellent example of what EvE is on your own it is not fun with a good bunch of friends however you can generate some wonderful moments.
Community 10 - scores top marks here for all the reasons I have already said above. Plus the fact that EvE provides an excellent canvass for you to develop strong relationships with other players EvE really does bind people together in ways very few other MMO's manage.
Performance / Lag 8 - EvE is a technical marvel, it is also very much cutting edge when you think that an average of 30k players are active in the one universe it boggles the mind how it manages that. Needless to say it does have issues with lag at times, I have not been involved in fleet fights for over a year, the forums suggest that EvE has more work to do in this area, but from recent dev blogs it does at least look like they are starting to get onto the problem.
Customer Service 8 - Never had any problems with customer service CCP is reputable company that does try to listen to its user base. It had some issues with corruption a couple of years ago but seems to have managed to put enough steps in to satisfy long term players that they are taking any reports issues with corruption very seriously indeed.
Lastly after the number of years I have been in the game I am closing my account, hence the review. I leave because for me 4+ years is enough time to spend in EvE. If I can leave any newcomers too EvE with one tip or piece of advise, find the right corp or play with the right set of friends that could well be the decision that will make or break the game for you.
Currently Waiting for Guild Wars 2.

WOW, a 4.5 year review. Good stuff. And I agree with most points.
Keep on rockin'!
Eta Carinea, as a pilot I agree totally with you. There is something in EVE that can not be found in other games, from the behaviour of the mature community until the risk of being destroyed running missions EVE is unique in many aspects.
Like you, i'm looking for a new home but still undecided. I need new MMO's. Some idea?
It is a question of fangs.
I'm trying so hard to see what you're seeing but I just don't. I'm doing the trial for what's probably the 4th or 5th time now.
I log in, od a mission or two, then log out. Lately I've just logged in to set new skills to train and I log off.
I know I know, "Find a good corp". I've joined several corps. Sometimes I never see anyone, other times I've traveled 20+ jumps (eye gouging omg why would you do that to anyone) to our base only to never see anyone (outside of mining expeditions, yipeeee).
Maybe I'm doing it wrong or maybe I've just had really bad luck with guilds...
One thing with corps, in most MMOs they are the ones asking the most questions. The guild whatever wants to know about you. In EVE you need to ask questions of the corp more then anything. When I ran corps/alliances the person or corp when I talked to prospective members the more questions they asked the longer they tended to stay in the corp. My suggestion is start a list of things that bugged you of the corps that you joined already and form some questions about those problems. You'll be much better off and have a better chance to find that corp that fits you.
It's a combination of bad luck and the fact that most corps in Eve suck very hard.
BUT, there are some absolutely fantastic corps that are awesome and make the game awesome to play. If you'd like, I can PM you with the name of a corp that is friendly to new comers and is awesome at the same time.
A good review, and I would agree with the ratings/comments pretty much across the board. I too left this year after 3+ years in EVE and hope to one day find another game that holds my interest as long as it did.

Props to you for pulling the plug while having a smile on your face. I have seen too many times where people just burn themselves out and get  with bitterness in their throat w/ leaving the game. I hope you guys find yourself another game to have some fun and enjoy But you guys will be back! :P They always come back..

I spend about 2-3 years on this game straight on. Then casually for another 2. I find it hard for me to get back in, I might be able to if I get my lazy ass back into 0.0. I've been meaning to play it more than casually again, but I recently bought ME 1 and 2, and that sort of let my free five days slip by lol.
Eve online is great, and I can't think of any other game I've loved this much other than Starcraft Brood war, diablo 2, and maybe now Mass Effect (2)
Very honest review i pretty much feel the same about EvE as you do.. Although i tend to play a little bit more solo (was in a very good corp but the people i became close with all eventually left) and still manage to have a good time, until you do Worlds Collide 10000times over lol.

Wow dude.. YOU ARE MY CLONE!! lol
I seriously bought ME1&2 (again) during the free 5 day thing and have been spending like the last 2 weeks playing through them.. I bought and played ME1 like 10 times and sold it not too long ago.. I then did a play though on ME2 with my renegade character when ME2 first released.. Now i got a little extra cash i went down to game spot and bought ME1+2 and ALL the DLCs! I'am telling you, Bringing Down The Sky for ME1 and Overlord/Liara The Shadow Broker for ME2 are worth every pennie! God i love Mass Effect so much i could go on and on; it is my favorite video game of ALL time (and i've spent the last 15years infront of a console/pc everyday for hours at a time lol.)
But not only that i avidly play SC2 and i played Diablo 2 for about 9years, 5 of them i played almost everyday.. I actually released the BoneWall + Meteor dupe method on the battle.net forums a few years back and single handley destroyed the economy.. l3unny. was my main.. #1 HDin on USWEST haha.. Man i love those games.. GOOD TIMES!

I have it for pc, and I couldn't find anywhere to get the ME1 dlc, but the dlc in ME2 was great. Kasumi is a great char, and I wish you could romance her =/. The Shadow broker dlc was really interesting and fun, and overlord was cool, but got kind of annoying since you couldn't quick save while in the hammerhead. Ending of that dlc was really interesting, and was a real emotional moment in the game imo.
